The makers of Clayspray claim that there is no other product in the world of their kind. These clay spray masks are, “exclusively sourced from a careful selection of clays from sites historically renowned for their therapeutic properties and where the clay has been protected from pollution and contamination for thousands of years.”

The first step was the discovery of the Irene Mine, a 100-million-year-old clay mine in the mountains of the Iberian Peninsula. The erosion of huge granite formations deposited large amounts of minerals with unique properties.

With the passage of time, 60 meters of mountain covered and protected this natural and unique deposit.

Within the Irene Mine is the Clayspray vein where only the purest clay is extracted — less than 1% of each ton of clay is used in Clayspray, making it the purest product of its kind!

I was sent a set of three Claysprays to try, each with a different purpose:

Toning White Clay with Aloe-Vera Masque (for normal/sensitive skin; $66.00)

Pore Refining White Clay Masque (for normal/combination skin; $66.00)

Mattifying Red Clay Masque (for oily skin; $66.00)

I was also sent a bottle of Hydrate H2O Spray Mineral Water ($75.00) for pre and post treatment.

I invited Rosie over to test these out with me and we had a blast! First, the packaging itself is gorgeous — the box that housed the set looks like an expensive art book.

Inside, we found the clays and the water, along with a terry washcloth and headband to keep the masks out of our hair (though in fact Clayspray does make some hair products).

Then, the fun began. After spraying ourselves with the water (which was wonderfully refreshing!), Rosie and I each tried the two white clay formulas.

Instructions:

1. Spray or moisten skin with natural mineral water.

2. Dispense product into your hand and massage into the area to be treated. Avoid contact with eyes.

3. Leave on until dry.

4. Wash skin with water until clay is removed

We both loved the easy, spray-on application. And the texture of the clays was superlative — more like creamy yogurt than turgid mud; it went on so easily and smoothly, which is not the case with other mud/clay treatments I have tried.

And when it was time to wash it off (that cloth came in handy), we both agreed that our faces felt fantastic — so soft, smooth and refreshed! What a great mini-spa treatment to share with a pal.

My 17-year-old daughter tried the Mattifying Red Clay Masque, since it was more compatible with her age and skin type. She also reported excellent results: skin felt smooth, fresh and oil-free after the treatment. We all agreed this one was a keeper!

My only quibble was with the price of the water — it seemed to me that you could use Evian for the same effect and spend less money.
