Review, Swatches: Duri Cosmetics Krakl Nail Color Collection Creates A Crackled Two Texture Finish

The new Duri Krakl finish polishes boast a “crackled and colorful two-texture” look They are designed to be used over another contrasting Duri color although it seemed to me that any other nail polish would work as well.

Black Widow

I first tried Duri’s Black Widow over a Top Shop Silver polish (for those of you who are following this site, I recently reviewed three metallic Top Shop polishes: silver, gold and rose gold.) The directions said it could be applied thinly or thickly, depending on the kind of effect you wanted to achieve. A thin application is supposed to yield thinner cracks and a thicker application, wider and thicker cracks. So I decided to go for thin first. The polish dried quickly and very soon, a beautiful, crackled finish appeared on my nails. I love the effect; it’s very hip and interesting. And I have a strong hunch that it is very forgiving too, so that any little nicks or scratches that happen in the course of ordinary life will not be so visible. This is definitely going into my summer rotation and I am planning to use it for my next pedicure as well.

Madame de Pompadour

Next, I tried the Madame de Pompadour (great name, guys!) which is a really lush and gutsy shade of deep pink. This time I decided to opt for a thicker application because I wanted to test that effect and I used it over a gold metallic polish from Top Shop. This was not as successful, but I don’t think it was the fault of the polish. First off, the gold was not the best choice for the undercoat; the contrast between the two shades was not strong enough. Next time I would try the Madame de Pompadour over a much darker shade, like eggplant, wine or even black. Secondly, the thick application was a tad gloppy and did not dry as well. So my advice, ladies, is stick with the thin coats. But the color is great and I would definitely try it again.

For all of you out there looking for fun, exciting and above all unique nail choices this summer, Duri’s Krakl collection is the one. Each of the 4 shades retails for $10.
