The recent Illamasqua event at Bloomingdales was no ordinary brand debut. It was an exciting presentation featuring Illamasqua Creative Director Alex Box who awed the audience as she created iconic looks LIVE in the store.
The Bloomingdales staff and fellow beauty addicts crowded the first floor to watch the makeup maven in action.

Alex Box is a rock star of the beauty world! On stage sat three models, two of which have been already featured in the brand’s seasonal looks: Sacred Hour and Broken Heart. FYI: I foresee Lady Gaga rocking the Broken Heart look soon!
The center model sat barefaced wearing a wig cap. But, Alex Box began applying shadow to all areas of the model’s face, including her hairline and neck.
During the presentation, certain songs were played signifying the addition of a step Alex was creating. Songs ranged from ambient to jazzy, modern to classics, and included instrumental versions of Gaga’s Poker Face and Beyoncé’s Crazy in Love.

You never knew what she was going to do next, like a sheer wash of burgundy around the hairline!
Then, Peggy Lee’s Fever played and out came the faux lashes. WOW! Once she added mascara to the lashes Jeepers Creepers (Where’d You Get Those Peepers) played – Incredible! The whole experience felt like a rock show or performance art piece. You definitely weren’t just watching a makeup application.
I swear there were times during the presentation you heard gasps from the crowd. You really did not know what she was going to do next. Just when you thought Alex was done, she would spray gold pigment on the model’s shoulders or apply heavy black color to her hairline.
Then out came the brown Afro wig. She is complete!
Where was this brand when I graduated college? Illamasqua has a wide range of products with a great philosophy of fostering self-expression. I am a believer. They handed out their Lipstick in Box, a beautiful red and Hydra Veil, which is said to be the best product ever created.
It’s a hydrating primer-like product that could be used as base before any makeup application or as a touch-up for midday.
