Most people know me for my beauty (turned beauty/fashion/lifestyle) blog, Pretty Connected. From my years at NARS, Kiehl’s, Jurlique (and consulting for countless other beauty brands), and the last 6 years Pretty Connected has been in existence, my love for cosmetics and this industry is very apparent.
But what draws a lot of my readers to my site are my approachable makeup choices and looks, with a Tom-Girl style that shows you don’t have to be a girlie-girl (although I have my moments of being one too!) to read my site. Tom-Girl is a term I coined this year when I started my second blog, In His Clothes, a style blog that addresses my other love: menswear and the influence it has on women’s clothing. Since beauty plays a role in every outfit I put together for the site, I was delighted when BeautyStat.com asked me to share my Top 4 Tom-Girl Beauty Trends! So, here we go…
1. Smoky Eyes: While I don’t like to think of Kristen Stewart as my muse for anything, it’s hard to deny nothing compliments her Tom-Girl style more then a smoky eye. And my favorite palette to get the look is the Lorac Pro Palette. From shimmery neutrals to gorgeous matte hues, this palette is great for beginners and experts alike! Their ultra-pigmented shades perform both wet and dry to shade, shadow, line and define your eyes to create countless looks to go from day to night.
2. Dark Eyeliner: You don’t have to go over-the-top with a thick liner (or you can), but my makeup case is never without 2-3 liners. My favorites: Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner (for a cat-eye), Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil for everyday and Buxom Hold The Line Waterproof Eyeliner in Pick Me Up, which is a sparkling denim blue shade for when I feel like switching it up. It has a metallic midnight blue effect that’s an easy and amazing way to glam up your eyes!
3. Bright Fuschia Lips: Nothing tops a masculine contrast like some feminine lips! (Just make sure it matches). But an easy way to turn any Tom-Boy outfit to a top girl is a pink lip. My top pick is Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Melted Fuchsia. It’s hot pink and stays put. Even if you eat, drink and do lose color throughout the day, the stain of the hot pink lip will remain.
4. Matte Nails: I have long been obsessed with Knock Out Nail Polish. (And every kid that ever Sharpie-d their nails or tried Wite-Out on them will be too). They were the first brand to do matte nail polish. And after 4+ years of seeking out their matte black, white and grey shades, and stalking the brand, I joined the company as a spokesperson and partner this year. It’s the first matte nail polish I’ve used that doesn’t chip in two seconds, and all it takes is a gloss coat to change the finish when I feel like switching it up.
