Our eye makeup application just isn’t complete without adding that finishing touch… mascara! Every girl just loves swiping on some lash-darkening mascara to either add volume, length, a curl or all three! Everyone has their favorite formula and brand, but BeautyStat knows that there are tons of different mascaras out there, how can we possibly try all of them? We asked our resident beauty-obsessed writers Nicole Gordon Levine and makeup artist Erin Sutera to tackle the ultimate task: make a list of the best volume, lengthening, defining, curling, long-wearing, oscillating and natural mascaras out there on the cosmetic market. Tarte – Lights, Camera Action! ($19.00)
Before/After
I love this mascara due to its streamlined brush and easy application. My lashes ‘zoomed’ out to the heavens and were a nice deep black. I was able to apply a few coats and my lashes just seemed to get longer — not clumpy, flaky or anything.
Best Volume
L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes ($8.99) & By Terry Mascara Terrybly Growth Booster Mascara

Application is key with the L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes mascara: You have to get it in the groove of the lashes, achieving a achieve a false lash look. No clumps or flakes. This mascara goes the ‘glam’ distance — and the price is great.
I have never tried any of By Terry products, but the line always piqued my interest. Well, I was in for a treat. This mascara not only claims to help your lashes grow, but my lashes were jet black and sexy! That is exactly what I look for with my mascaras. The benefits are endless from the hydrating to hyaluronic acid to the collagen to protect your precious lashes. If you want to splurge, this is my top pick!
Best Defining
Dior — Diorshow Mascara ($25.00)
Before/After
Don’t let the big brush fool you. At first, I thought this Dior mascara was all about volume. I was surprised at how defined and natural my lashes looked. As you apply, I was able to get each individual lash and had nice fanned-out lashes. I was also able to apply many coats and not a flake or clump in sight! As it always looks so polished! Nicole and I definitely agree on this one!
Lancôme Precious Cells Definicils ($29.50)
After/Before
My other pick is Lancôme Définicils Precious Cells. I love this mascara because of the shape of the brush. Définicils has always been on top mascara lists for years. This mascara, like the By Terry also has the added benefit of helping to protect and grow your lashes. You really can’t go wrong with any of Lancôme’s mascaras.
Best Curling
Stila Forever Your Curl Curl Memory Mascara ($22.00)
Nicole and I both agree that Stila’s Forever Your Curl Curl Memory Mascara is amazing. Nicole said it was easy-to- apply with no issues, and curled her lashes nicely. As for me? I have eyelashes similar to Asian eyes. What does that mean? My lashes are straight, so I always have to have my Shu Uemura lash curler within my grasp. Otherwise, they just brush out instead of up. With this mascara they were gorgeous and opened up my sleepy peepers effortlessly!
Long-Wearing
Urban Decay Big Fatty ($20.00)

I’m a big fan of Urban Decay products. Along with the Naked Eye Palettes ($50.00) — if you want a downright sexy, smokey eye — you MUST use this product. Do you want your makeup to last all night? Urban Decay is a great go-to brand, known for its long-lasting formulas. At first, I was a little daunted by the shape of the molded brush, but I was able to apply multiple layers without it smudging, or flaking. I wore this out at a party into the wee hours and this mascara went the distance. I also like the fact that it has ingredients to improve the condition of your lashes such as hemp seed oil, vitamin E and purasilk (which I found out also helps to curl lashes!). Best Waterproof
Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara ($30.00) & Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Volumizing Mascara ($22.00)

I have heard nothing but fabulous things about this mascara from all over. Through gym, work, and my biggest nemesis, humidity, this mascara doesn’t budge. My pick was Stila. I love the fact that not only does it give you such voluminous lashes, but it doesn’t budge all day! My eyes tear whether it’s from laughing, crying or just plain allergies. Best Oscillating
Lancôme Ôscillation Mascara ($35.00)
After/Before
I really loved this mascara. I had never used an oscillating brush before, however, this one was awesome! My lashes looked even, defined and just like they do in a mascara ad! But my lashes were real! You can get really up close to the base of your lash groove and the brush does all the work for you, as you fan out to the tips of your lashes. If you want subtle yet noticeable lashes this mascara is amazing.
Best Natural/Eco-Friendly
Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara ($19.00)
After/Before
I love the fact that Tarte sponsors and supports sustainable-harvest cooperatives in the Amazon. They continually use different ingredients that change the mascara base game. They are also formulated without parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, synthetic fragrance or sulfates. Not to mention you get some serious lash action!
