It was the haircut seen around the world! Well, let’s not exaggerate… only the beauty world and maybe the eyes of frequent NY Times perusers. It’s the latest celebrity to chop off her hair and make a splash. Chopping off those locks is the Hollywood cure for a stale career. Not to mention one of the trendiest styles for 2013, along with Michelle Obama kicking off the blunt bang hairstyle trend!

Look at all the greats: Nicole Richie, Kate Moss, Carrie Bradshaw. So, these lovely ladies, real or not, are my style icons and what they do I diligently notice. The latest celebrity to take that “chop” is Karlie Kloss (pictured above).

It is weird to think that a young, gorgeous model with a booming career would change her hair? Giving her that versatile look. However, the cut wasn’t just a simple snip of the scissors, it was an act of courage. Her brunette security blanket is gone and all that’s left is my new obsession and the real Karlie.

From experience, before you take the chopping plunge it’s important to do your homework. Contemplate the stylist, the maintenance and yourself. A short cut is often unforgiving. Any slight imperfection is noticeable, so trusting your stylist is key.

Remember that unless you want the upkeep of styling, try to stick to a cut that will look good with air-dried locks. If you have texture, don’t go for a slick-straight Vidal Sassoon architectural cut, opt for a flowing cut that highlights your texture.

The last piece of advice is to embrace the new you. Short hair takes courage and self-confidence that all the world will see. New year, new changes! Put away the self-doubt and flaunt the things that make you fantastic, with or without the long locks.
