Review, Before/After Photos: Aveda Invanti System - Hair Thickening, Revitalizing Shampoo, Conditioner, Scalp Spray

Thicker hair via head massage? Perhaps — when it’s part of a hair care system promising to stimulate your roots as you give yourself a moment of relaxation. Aveda s new Invati System claims to thicken hair and reduce hair loss due to breakage within four weeks, with the full effect achieved after twelve. The line uses densiplexTM, an invigorating blend of ayurvedic herbs, including turmeric and ginseng, promising to remove build-up, restore strength and energize the scalp.

Aveda strives to connect beauty, the environment and well-being — infusing this mantra into all of their products. It’s a great company to stand by because they “continually strive to increase the use of naturally derived ingredients,” where 50% of the molecule comes from a plant, non-petroleum mineral, or other natural source (like water) and now more than 90% of their essential oils and 89% of their raw herbal ingredients are certified organic.

Aveda sent me the entire system: the Exfoliating Shampoo ($24.00), Thickening Conditioner ($24.00) and Scalp Revitalizer ($60.00). Being the overexcited hair enthusiast that I am, I was eager to try this so-called “new-technology.” I used the
products for four weeks, so the results I experienced were in the beginning stages of using this system, not after the full twelve week cycle.

I began with the Exfoliating Shampoo, which promises to renew and nourish the scalp. It is one of eight groundbreaking products honored with Gold-level Cradle to Cradle® certification, a program that assesses a product’s safety to humans and the environment. The entire Invati System smells similar to all Aveda products: an earthy blend of lavender and other essential oils, infused with a light turmeric note. Because Aveda prides its products being all-natural, the shampoo does not foam like many other shampoos do; make sure to limit the amount used depending on your hair length.

Also a Gold-level Cradle to Cradle® certified product, the Thickening Conditioner came next, which I applied from roots to ends. It promises to reduce breakage, improve hair elasticity and thicken hair. Once I towel-dried, I was able to detangle my hair easily. The Scalp Revitalizer spray was the last step in the system. According to Aveda , the product uses a blend of vitamin E ingredients to help accelerate microcirculation with a therapeutic massage. It is supposed to help energize and rehabilitate the scalp around the follicles when massaged in.

As directed, I sprayed the product into my scalp sixteen times (eight times on each side), massaging it in twice a day for the entire month’s cycle. It tingled a little after each application (I guess that means it was working). As time went on, I began
noticing thicker hair, which is always a huge plus in any book.

It is always comforting to use products that are eco-friendly, natural and pleasant, so, testing Invati was a real treat. Additionally, the products leave that yummy Aveda scent on the hair all day long. Even if the photos do not show much of a difference in volume, I did notice less and less hair in the drain as the month progressed. This factor was definitely a plus, especially because I had been using the product for only four weeks.

I did however, have mixed feelings about the Scalp Revitalizer. The $60.00 price tag seems hefty for the results I had seen. Having to spray it in twice a day at times weighed down my hair, making it feel/look greasier than usual. A factor which made using the product a bit of a burden. One could only use it once a day, especially if she/he has limp hair, but then the thickening process is prolonged and less effective.

Less hair loss made me a very happy camper knowing I wouldn’t need to purchase any Drano this season! I’d be curious to see the progression of my hair if I had continued to use these products for the full cycle. Though, for consumers to have to spend over $300.00 to see the full effect doesn’t seem so encouraging. But hey, what we wouldn’t do in the name of good hair?!
