(Review, Photos, Swatches) Aveda Launches Jewels of the Earth Makeup Collection for Fall 2011

It seems the whole world is having a gemstone frenzy right now (remember M.A.C.’s Semi Precious Collection?).

Aveda Lipstick Jewels of the Earth Collection

Inspired by gemstones, Aveda is launching its Jewels of the Earth Makeup Collection Limited Edition palette. The collection is comprised of intense and tarnished tints of blue, green, gold and bronze. The collection is made of six limited edition Petal Essence ™ Single Eye Colors ($12), one limited edition Nourish-Mint ™ Sheer Mineral Lip Color ($15) and two limited edition Nourish-Mint ™ Smoothing Lip Colors. The colors are bold and I am drawn to them because of their hue.

I sampled the Smoothing lip color in Vanadinite and the single eye shadow in Azurite. Both colors were rich in color and kept their pigment once applied onto both my eyes and lips. Most magazines are showing bright, bold hues for the fall and this makeup collection is right on par with the latest trends. The lipstick is brighter than I normally wear but I got used to it quickly as I paired it with a darker lip liner. Its texture is creamy and is infused with plant and fruit waxes to smooth fine lines, hydrate and plump the lips naturally.

The Aveda Petal Essence Single Eye Colors provide crease resistant color with the scents of geranium and jasmine. The six limited edition colors are Crushed Citrine, Terraverte, Sanidine, Azurite, Amethyst and Jade. The Nourish-Mint ™ Lip Colors are available in Tanzanite and Vanadinite. Sheer Petalite is the one and only Nourish-Mint ™ Sheer Lip Color being offered.

The swatches below are of the Single Eye Color in Azurite (top) which reminds me of the Paint Pot hue Half Wild from M.A.C.’s Posh Paradise Collection but this has a bit more shimmer to it. It’s a true indigo blue shade that is very fall. The lip color in Vanadinite is very much on the pink side, as you can see, and wears well.

I like the fact that jewel tones also work for pretty much all skin tones. If you are pale and choose to wear the lipstick shown above, you don’t have to heavily accent your lips unless you do want to look runway.

The Limited Edition collection is available on August 28th in Aveda salons, spas and select retail locations.

What are your thoughts on Aveda’s new Fall line? Do you like the shades?
