Since I was unfamiliar with the Eve Lom line, I decided to do some research. Brought up by her “witch doctor” (her words) grandmother in the former Czechoslovakia, as a child, Eve Lom was often sent out to collect herbs and plants to be used in healing her grandmother’s ailing patients. Her interest in herbalism had to be put on hold as 18 year old Lom fled Czechoslovakia when the Russians invaded in 1968; she ended up in Paris working as a dancer. She married actor Herbert Lom and moved to Hollywood where she rekindled her interest in natural therapies. Eve became a facialist and soon built up her reputation and star-studded client list. A move to London saw the opening of her first salon in 1983 from where she started selling her eponymous line in 1985. The brand grew and grew. A few years back, Lom sold the company but still maintains a certain degree of control.

Eve Lom’s collection is all about simplicity. It’s not a massive range of products but Lom argues that women can be swayed into using way too many products on their skin. So, she’s created the essentials to simplify the whole process.

I was sent two different cleansers to try; even before I opened the stylist white boxes with their spare but elegant gray sans serif lettering, I was hooked. The fragrances emanating from the products were fresh, calming, and yet bracing too. I was back in that meadow with Eve, and eager to get the products out of those boxes and onto my face!

This hybrid gel-to-balm formula “gently and thoroughly removes all traces of makeup (even waterproof mascara) and other impurities with a signature essential oil blend of clove, eucalyptus, hops, and chamomile oil.” Fortified with a high dose of shea butter and grapeseed oil (used for their intensive moisturizing benefits), Eve Lom’s Gel Balm Cleanser is said to leave skin feeling fresh, soothed, and nourished. An enzyme blend assists with gently cleansing skin, while cold-pressed argan oil enhances the skin’s condition and protects from redness. This gentle, lightweight cleanser works in harmony with skin’s natural oil balance, without drying the skin. Expertly balanced for all skin types, the gel balm is paraben, sulfate, and phthalate free.

In addition, this mineral oil free cleanser is said to “provide the perfect base to allow for serums, moisturizers, and other skincare treatments to work at their best.” It was a Harper Bazaar’s Best of the Best award winner for Balm Cleanser.

When I massaged the gel cleanser onto wet skin, it gently transformed into a milky balm texture that was very easy to spread and use. I liked the easy-to-use pump dispenser and I absolutely loved the fragrance, which is the brand’s signature blend of clove, eucalyptus, hops, and chamomile oil. I found it sophisticated but also clean, calming, and refreshing. Heaven!

The gel balm cleanser didn’t leave my skin with that taut, tight feeling that comes after using so many products; on the contrary, my skin was supple and petal soft. Bottom line: pricey but given its mild formula and emollient properties, it’s perfect for the winter coming months.

This is the line’s original cleansing product and it is suitable for a variety of different skin types. It promises to “decongest, exfoliate, tone, soothe, and deep cleanse.” Formulated with clove oil, eucalyptus oil, Egyptian chamomile oil, and cocoa butter, this innovative cleanser promises to “lift away waterproof makeup and other impurities with ease.” When used with the special 100% cotton muslin cloth, it claims to exfoliate, tone, drain toxins, and improve circulation. Thorough cleansing and gentle exfoliation enables skill cells to regenerate quickly and provides a receptive base for beauty products to work at their best.

The product came in a small jar and needed to be dug out in order to apply it to my face. I loved the fragrance, which boasted the signature ingredients but also added a hint of cocoa. The muslin cloth came in handy because the product is not as soft or fluid as some of the others in the line. But when used with the cloth, it created a delightful, delicious spa-like experience after which my skin was soft and glowing.

I would not recommend this product for use on a morning when you’re in a rush; instead, save it for a little special “me-time.” Because it’s good for all skin types, and it comes with the added luxury of the muslin cloth, this would make a great gift for your BFF.

Eve Lom Morning Time Cleanser | $60

The Morning Time Cleanser is a “fresh alternative for those who like to cleanse in a different way, at a different time of day.” This quick and easy, two minute wash-off balm uses the four Eve Lom signature aromatic cleansing oils, together with papaya fruit enzyme and carrot oil.

Benefits include:

  • Cleanses without drying the skin and removes even the most stubborn waterproof makeup
  • Decongests and helps stimulate collagen production
  • Exfoliates, tones, brightens, and minimizes the appearance of pores
  • Softens skin
  • Quick and easy to use
  • Suitable for all skin types

I used this during a morning shower (no muslin cloth needed) and definitely appreciated the easy, twist-open-twist-closed tube. There wasn’t even anything to unscrew (or lose!) making it ideal for travel and/or your gym bag. The product itself was easy to squeeze out and lather up. The fragrance was by now familiar (but no less delightful) and my skin was left clean, soft, and toned.

All-in-all, this is a great, high-end line. I loved their cleansing products and plan to incorporate them into my routine. And I’m eager to explore the rest of the products in this line.
