All That Glitters: Beauty Products, Creams, Treatments And Makeup That Contain Real Gold

It has been said that Cleopatra was reported to sleep with a pure gold mask every night to keep her skin looking radiant. Recently, the Daily Mail wrote about a glowing gold facial that claims revitalization and helps skin elasticity and firmness. While the jury is still out on the concrete medical benefits of gold, it’s hard to ignore the beauty they bring to just about every category on the market.

Another wonderful fact about gold is that since 1929, it has successfully been used to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis by reducing inflammation. Gold compounds are also being looked into in the treatment of cancer in many prominent academic and industrial labs. But the bottom line is — don’t expect a discount on products that contain gold. If it glitters, it’s probably worth a pretty penny.

“Specifics” by Clinica Ivo Pitanguy

While passing the Beauty by Clinica Ivo Pitanguy counter at Berdorf Goodman, I couldn’t help but notice glittering gold flakes surrounding their two newest products. Professor Ivo Pitanguy is known as the Father of modern plastic surgery and this line was specifically made to reverse the effects of aged and stressed skin “Your skin is reborn” is used as a tagline referring to the products making your skin repaired and that it regains the quality of its youth.

“Specifics” Ultimate Eye Cream and Ultimate Repair Cream are infused with gold and are considered the elixir in skin repair. I was told by Luisa, as she applied the Ultimate Repair Cream to my hand, that Gold is known for restoring the skin’s elasticity. It is also known to slow down loss of collagen and immediately gives the skin a plump radiance. She then asked me to compare both hands under a bright light and I did see a difference! One hand showed immediate results with looking more hydrated and radiant while the other still had the ruddiness of my usual skin tone even though I had used my daily moisturizer.

Before/ After “Specifics”: an instant difference

I wanted to know more about this gold component. I then sat down in their spa chair for the orbital eye treatment using the Ultimate Eye Cream and because of the immediate radiance, the dark circles under my eyes seemed lighter. My crow’s feet seemed less noticeable too. The gold seemed to act as a natural highlighter when I looked in the mirror. Not only did I appreciate the soft feel of the gold infused product on my skin, but I also learned that essential oils were used only as additives and not main ingredients for Aromatherapy purposes only. Luisa explained that her company believes essential oils are to be used as aromatherapy tools in their products but not as main ingredients as they are not supposed to be used directly on the face. I asked her to repeat that belief as I normally use products with essential oils on my face daily and have lovely skin with infrequent break outs. I do find that my skin is very sensitive and gets irritated within minutes of trying new product and it did not happen here . I left her counter with well hydrated, soft radiant skin possibly due to the Candela, cotton and aloe vera extracts that are used to relieve any irritation.

Specifics Ultimate Repair Cream retails for $ 300.00 and the Specific Ultimate Eye Cream retails for $ 200.00.

Oro Gold

Oro Gold’s entire line is based on gold infused products. They believe Colloidal gold, which is a suspension of a sub-micrometer sized particle of gold (also known as nano-gold) has anti aging effects and states on their site www.orogoldcosmetics.com that the skin improves and strengthens, regaining elasticity and freshness. Once again OroGold states that it is used as an Anti-Inflammatory and helps the skin heal faster. They have an Eye Care, Collagen, Bio Brightening, Oil Control Series among others all with “nano-gold.” The packaging looks as luxurious as the name suggests.
