Besides a Versace Couture denim dress that screamed Britney circa 2001, Katy Perry‘s VMA look was quintessential Katy — bright red lips, black liquid liner and big lashes. Celebrity Makeup Artist Jake Bailey began her eye makeup by blending a warm brown shadow, like COVERGIRL Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Scorching Cocoa into the crease of her eyelids and a pearlescent white shadow (Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Blazing White) onto her eyelid and brow bone for highlights. He also dusted some of that same pearlescent shadow onto the ridge of her cheekbones for an extra glow. A sharp jet black cat-eye was created with the COVERGIRL Bombshell Intensity Liner and several coats of Bombshell Volume Mascara.
For bright-red lips, Jake lined with LipPerfection Lip Liner in Hot and the matching LipPerfection Lip Color shade in Hot 305. A coat of Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in Crystal Flame added some metallic sheen.
Actress and reality star Jamie Chung wore a bright fuchsia lip to go with her sleek ponytail. Straight from the tube, ck one pure color lipstick in kiss it 420 was applied.

This Awkward star looked nothing of the sort. Ashley Rickards wore a fun blue dress, so Kayleen McAdams wanted to create a ‘modern day Audrey Hepburn’ look with rosy tones to complement her overall VMA style. To create flushed cheeks, she chose a warm pink blush, like ck one cream + powder blush duo in happiness 700, applying only to apples of the cheeks.
Jordana Brewster’s colorful outfit for the night was doing all the talking, so eyes were experimented with washes of pinks and purples. Kayleen McAdams used a pastel palette consisting of ck one powder eyeshadow in evolved 720 in contrasting light and dark tones, following up with ck one volumizing mascara in black 800.
Sleek, Shiny Hair & Neutral Makeup
Neutral makeup reigned supreme with some metallic touches and sleek hair. Singer Becky G. brought out the silver studs in her skirt with a swipe of COVERGIRL Bombshell Shine Shadow in Ice Queen. Lips remained natural with COVERGIRL Colorlicious Lip Gloss in Berrylicious for glossy lips!
Iggy Azalea dominated the red carpet with a slicked back, smooth and sleek style that complemented her custom metallic Versace gown. Celebrity Stylist Sami Knight created Iggy’s sleek look by spraying Herbal Essences Tea-Lightfully Clean Blow Dry Prep Mist on freshly washed hair from root to tip. She then worked Herbal Essences Naked Volumizing Soufflé at the roots to add a boost of volume; then sectioned off the hair and blow-dried each part smooth with a paddle brush. A light teasing underneath the top section with a tail comb added extra fullness. The final look was locked in with Herbal Essences Body Envy Volumizing Hairspray.
British sensation Jessie J also rocked a sleek and shiny hairstyle last night with a a deep center part. Celebrity Stylist Alisha Dobson sprayed the Herbal Essences Honey, I’m Strong Silkening Spray on wet hair. She then created a deep center part and blow-dried hair straight with a flat paddle brush. A misting of the Herbal Essences Set Me Up Heat Protection Spray was used over the hair before flat-ironing it out all smooth and straight.
Miley Cyrus looked red carpet-ready with shiny and gorgeous hair. Miley relies on the dpHUE product line to keep her blonde hair looking beautiful and healthy and loves the brand’s Cool Blonde Shampoo, Cool Blonde Conditioner and signature Oil Therapy. The Cool Blonde products neutralize yellow tones and reduces brassiness while the Oil Therapy does wonders for dry or stressed hair and works for all hair types.
Leave it to the Queen Bey to officially bring metallic nails into play for fall. Beyoncé chose a silver liquid metal shimmer shade from Nails inc for her VMA performance. To get her exact manicure, use Nails inc NailKale Superfood Base Coat, Cambridge Terrace Polish and Gel Effect Top Coat with Kensington Caviar.

Lorde looked bold and beautiful with a 1960’s Jerry Hall-inspired hair look. To achieve, wash and condition hair using Wella Professionals Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner. To create the perfect foundation for styling, spray damp hair with Wella Professionals LuxeOil Keratin Boost Leave In Conditioning Spray, then blow-dry using a large ceramic brush to create natural volume.
Create a deep side part in the hair, then curl the entire head with a 1 ½ inch ceramic curling iron to create long loose waves. Apply 2-3 pumps of Wella Professionals LuxeOil Reconstructive Elixir to the palms of your hands, and then gently run fingertips through the curls to add shine and definition. Finish the look with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray, lightly misting hair to prevent flyaways.
Long Hair, Don’t Care: Victory Rolls & Ponytails

This year Gwen Stefani showed us the side of her we all know so well with her vintage wave and victory roll. Use Mark Hill Gorgeous! Work it Girl Spray evenly through your hair and curl for loose waves. For that victory roll, take your front section and clasp in the curling iron, rolling away from the face; when you release the hair after a few seconds, you want to keep hold of the hair in the little circular roll it falls off the curler in. Grab your bobby pins and select the best area at the front of the head where you will feel comfortable for this roll to sit securely.
Ariana Grande knows the power of the pony! Wash hair as you normally would and get ready to create a high ponytail! Once you are ready to pony up, grab an elastic and a large paddle brush. Onto your brush spray Gorgeous! Fabulous Finish Hairspray, this helps grab the hairs into place whilst you’re creating your style! Find your perfect pony position and secure with an elastic.
Grab a segment of hair to wrap around and cover the elastic, or, you may want to hit the shops and find a ponytail cuff that clip over the elastic. Finish with Defrizz-ilicious Bedazzled Anti Humidity Shine Spray to add that extra shine to your finished look.
The Short-Haired Girl’s Guide To Glamorous Waves

Taylor Swift looks as if she’s breaking the mold; sticking to waves but in a much more undefined, messy style with short hair. For starters, blow-dry hair using a large round brush to create maximum volume! Spritz on some Viva La Volume Blow Dry Mousse at the roots to help with lift. Taking a curling iron, roughly wand through the hair for a messy, disheveled wave. Leave the waves to set for a few minutes before using your hands to really get in there and break up the curls. Once you feel you are done, secure with some Gorgeous! Fabulous Finish Hairspray and a spritz of Defrizz-ilicious Bedazzled Anti Humidity Shine Spray to get that sheen!
Miss Nicki Minaj gave us glamorous waves last night, something we’re sure Marilyn Monroe would be proud of! After blow-drying hair, add a side part and grab your curling iron! Use Gorgeous! Work it Girl Spray on each section; you are going to go around the head of the iron and move the hair forward rather than away from your face. Continue this all around the head from one ear to the other. When this is achieved, allow the hair to cool and grab your comb in preparation to comb out the waves – curl each just once, or to your liking of how you want your style to look. Use Defrizz-ilicious Bedazzled Anti Humidity Shine Spray and Gorgeous! Fabulous Finish Hairspray again to add shine and hold the style.
