WHAT ARE DRY SHAMPOOS?  As much as we think dry shampoo is a new invention it has been around since the days of the ancient Egyptians to the 1970’s when people were always looking for those simple solutions.  What a dry shampoo actually does is use its composition of powders to soak up dirt and oil (instead of washing it away as with traditional shampoos).  This seems weird living in a culture where we find the need to oblige to that squeaky clean image, but dry shampoo goes beyond traditional shampoo.

Hairstylists like the famous Oscar Blandi, who has his own line of dry shampoo, use this product for almost everything.  He says it’s a great “pick me up in the afternoon” and that is helps create that always coveted “second day” hair.  This family of products comes in all formulas, colors and brands, but it definitely has uses beyond a quick clean.  These products add volume to limp hair after a long day or add texture to clean hair.  Texture is great for styling as the hair holds better … always a plus.

In its recent resurgence dry shampoo has been seen everywhere.  Jeanie Syfu the lead stylist for TREsemmé, even used dry shampoo at many fashion shows including Fall 2011 Charlotte Ronson.

Here she used the brands various types of dry shampoo to create that side swept look.

As awesome as dry shampoos are, they do have their limitations.  Though all straight and wavy hair types can benefit from them, some dry shampoo formulas can make curly hair very kinky. Dry shampoo on my curly hair does not give the same results as when I use it on my blowout, but it does have its benefits.  I am able to go longer between washes and refresh my blowout.  Less washing  = awesome hair with less damage and less time.  How great is that?

WHAT DRY SHAMPOOS WILL WORK FOR YOUR HAIR TYPE:  Now here is the hard part, finding one that works for you.  I do consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur of dry shampoos.  From the first time I heard about them,  I’ve been using them.  In fact, I’ve tried many of them .  My favorite is most definitely the Oscar Blandi Pronto dry shampoo.  This one has a great lemony scent and keeps my hair looking and feeling fresh and clean.  It also comes in a two forms an aerosol and a nozzle. I have tried both and prefer the nozzle, but both do work well.

Another great brand is TREsemmé.  They not only carry a dry shampoo for different types of straight hair but also one for curly hair.  After trying both I realized the one for curly hair is quite difficult to use, but my curly hair takes less time to style so I decide I can wash more often.  Some others include Label M and Klorane who boast celebrity fans such as Fergie and Leelee Sobieski.

For a 21^st century woman life is fast paced and often times too stressful.  This handy little product cuts down time and damage to your hair.  Given how long they last and the amazing results … who can resist this shower in a bottle?

Her hair was done in a super chic updo, created by TRESemmé Celebrity Stylist Mara Roszak. Roszak wanted ”an editorial look because she was wearing Givenchy. We also didn’t want the hair and make up to compete with the dress so we created an elegant but effortless look.”

Here’s how you can recreate Saldana’s Oscars 2010 red carpet ‘do:

1. It’s all about prepping the hair with mousse! I am a huge fan of the TRESemme Naturals line, and was pleased to find that Roszak had prepped damp hair with TRESemmé Naturals Lightweight Mousse. Then she blow dryed her hair upside down.

2. Roszak separated the crown from the rest of the hair and pulled back the sides into a tight pony. Then she pulled the hair almost all the way through but left the ends tucked into a ponytail holder. Note that it wasn’t a PERFECT ponytail, with a few pieces left outside the bun for a slightly messy look.

3. Then she teased the top part of the hair and criss crossed bobby pins to hold the hair in place securely. She also sprayed Saldana’s updo with TRESemmé TRES TWO Extra Hold Hair Spray.
4. Here’s a stylist secret! Spray hairspray on finger tips and gently pull the hair around the face with your fingers to loosen the hair, giving it an organic effortless look.

This is the show that makes drag queens feel underdressed. Trust Richie Rich, who had his Fall 2009 showing at the Waldorf Astoria on Feb 18th, to go over the top with his clothes and makeup.

This is one of my most favorite makeup looks during Fashion Week: the shimmering eyeshadow, rich eyeliner and stained lips really pop like the Aurora Borealis. According to the makeup artist of the show Kabuki, “We used a Norma Jean-to-Marilyn Monroe theme.” “The makeup is exaggerated since the space for the show, the Waldorf Astoria Ballroom, is so huge. Working with Richie Rich is always fun, a designer with a real flair for showbiz.”

Kabuki suggested two looks for the show: the first suggests a bit of Andy Warhol icon Edie Sedgwick – big eyes, defined brows and a taupe pencil. The second look is the first look taken to the extreme… with the aid of false lashes on the eyes, brighter highlights on the lids and cheeks and a shiny red gloss on the lips.

The look was meant to build throughout the show. It got stronger reflecting going from day to night (Edie Sedgwick to Marilyn Monroe).

THE HAIR

TRESemmé stylists were the masters of hair at Richie Rich.

Two looks told the story of a cool, punk rock “chick” that grew up to become a refined woman: pin curled pompadours and Mohawk with cornrows—this fierce yet feminine look best featured Rich’s look for 2009.

This look was teased and set it using TRESemmé’s 24-hour Body Spray, which has a pretty strong hold. This technique can be taken from the runway to reality too. Just spray the hair, set with your curling iron and it is off you go!

THE RUNWAY

Colorful, over the top at times, but never a dull moment. And oh, yes,  Pamela Anderson is wearing that gold…thing. The show was called “Blondes Have More Fun” …except there were more brunettes on the runway than blondes.
