When I was first introduced to Samy Twisted collection, the first thing that caught my eye was the line’s bright neon packaging. With neon looks making a comeback on the runways and neon makeup popping up over the past year or so, I was excited right away that this line was so on trend. Then it was time to move beyond appearances and check out what this line was made of!

The Twisted collection includes three different styling products, all formulated with keratin protein complex to help strengthen and UV filters to protect against amino acid loss. Like a great group of friends, the Twisted collection includes an option for your every need. There’s a blue-capped Pomade Spray that shapes, shines, controls and holds; a yellow-capped Curl Define Spray gel keeps curls frizz free and super shiny; and my favorite, the pink-capped Frizz Control Spray that helps control frizz and seals out moisture.

As a whole, the line is pretty impressive because it combines fashion with function. These little babies aren’t just pretty faces; they’re also practical. Perfectly shaped and sized, the sprays are compact enough to stow away in your purse or carryon, and they’re much more fashionable than your typical run of the mill spray. And you can’t beat the price, with a SRP of $4.99 either!

Out of the whole line, I enjoyed the Frizz Control Spray the most. I decided to test it out on my sister while doing her hair for an important meeting. My sister’s pretty low-maintenance with her hair and doesn’t typically use much product, if any at all. But she consistently suffers from frizzies in spite of my best efforts to convert her to some of my fave products! But for this meeting, I put my foot down and told her I’d be using a special new spray on her hair to help keep the frizzies at bay.

After combing her hair, I sprayed the Frizz Control Spray all over, and combed through, then stood back to admire its work. The spray left behind a smooth, shiny appearance, and her frizzies were virtually gone! Plus, she didn’t complain as much about the residue that many sprays leave behind. Needless to say, this little baby will be working its way into my emergency hair kit now!

Oscar 2010 Beauty Trend Prediction #1: Classic Beauty and Old Hollywood Style Glamour

Celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine says, “I think the most popular/prominent look on the red carpet this year will be classic beauty statements. If we see color, it will be blush tones and soft roses instead of deep shades of red or vibrant shadow statements. I think this beauty speaks directly to the recession and reflects a more subtle beauty that many women can relate to.”

Brett Freedman (celebrity makeup artist to Vanessa Hudgens, Kelly Clarkson, Reba McEntire, Emily Blunt, Sienna Miller, and Jessica Lucas) thinks we will see Old Hollywood glamor with lots of edge. He predicts paler lips, and lots of eye liquid liner. There won’t be too much tan, and “dewiness for the body will take center stage, with a more subtle look.”

Freedman thinks the eyes will be about lashes and liner, and not really about a “smoky eye.” “I’m thinking Sandra Bullock will buck the trend, I predict a dramatic eye and pale lip. Hair up and with a mix of structured and unstructured waves. She’ll want to have a touch of edge and sex appeal.”

Christina Smith, a celebrity makeup artist who has worked with Julia Roberts, Giselle Bundchen, Reese Witherspoon, Helen Mirren, Jane Krakowski, predicts heavy eye makeup. “False lashes will be in full force,” she says.

Oscar 2010 Beauty Trend Prediction # 3: Pretty and Feminine Hair

According to Stylesight’s New York Trend Director, Andrea Praet, “For hair, expect to see pretty, feminine loose styles continuing. For eyes, expect to see subdued metallics, in shades of pewter and lavender, with accents of shimmering white that highlight the brow and cheek bone.”

Anthony Dickey, creator of the line Hair Rules, says, “People think that Hollywood and the Oscars are synonymous with glamor, recession or not, and we’ll all be watching to see how this plays out on this year’s red carpet. I think that a lot of what you will see on the likes of Sandra Bullock and Julianne Moore will be looks taken right off the runways of Dior and Oscar de la Renta. I predict lots of Lauren Bacall inspired shapes – upsweeps, glamorous period looks that are touchable, not hard or stiff. If I’m right, it means a lot of styles that can be worn by all women off the red carpet, which is great.

Laurent Dufourg, celebrity stylist and owner of the famed Privé Salons expects the looks at the Grammy’s to be remarkably different than those seen at the Golden Globes. “The Grammy’s are very rock and roll, so there is less of the glamorous up-do’s we see at the Golden Globes and more edgy styles.” He also anticipates that big curls and texture – which are becoming a trend courtesy of country favorites Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift - will also be in view. Long hair, messy – edgy looks and shaggy, fun looks are also on his radar.

Hair and make up artist Trisha Nerney, foresees tonight’s makeup looks as “dark and dramatic to offset the simplicity of the hair.” Hair will be “sleek and slicked back, worn in a low ponytail. Stars will get base color glosses to bring out shine when the paparazzi shoot the cameras and the light hits the hair. This plus lighter highlights around the face will make the stars glow.”

Allan Avendano, hair & makeup artist with the Margaret Maldonado Agency anticipates “We will see lots of glowing skin, and many faces with sexy smokey eyes along with loose modern updos or sexy flowing locks. Hollywood vintage glamour will also make an appearance with red lips, full lashes and vintage hairstyles.”

Most stars prep pre-party with spa treatments to make their skin camera ready. Presenter and new artist Ke$ha’s prepped for glowing skin with the Purigenex micro-collagen mask from RoxSpa in Beverly Hills. The treatment uses topical collagen to penetrate the skin. Kelley West, RoxSpa Director told us that “Purigenex improves the tone and texture of the skin, plumps fine lines, lightens hyperpigmentation, helps improve acne scarring and gives the patient an overall youthful appearance. For an instant and radiant glow, women scheduled to walk the red carpet often apply the mask the night before, or even the day of, a special event.”
