Ask the Makeup Expert: Alison Raffaele Cosmetics

Naturally inspired, yet EFFECTIVE cosmetics are really as hard to find as the Pink Panther diamond. Trust me, I know — having ransacked countless drugstore and high-end department stores in the hope of finding concealers and foundations made with mostly natural ingredients and ending up leaving as disappointed as a kid who didn’t see Mickey Mouse at Disney World.
There is a ton of BODYCARE that is organic and natural and most of those products are very effective, but we’re talking about the foundation of your beauty: the foundations, brushes, concealers, …

MAC Cosmetics and Disney Team Up to Launch Venomous Villains Collection

MAC Cosmetics is my passport to being a Vegas Showgirl, Page Six diva, Craftswoman and Beach Babe all rolled into one. Every collection they unveil is a testament to brilliance (I’m still drooling over the To the Beach Collection which we’ll feature swatches of shortly).
Breaking news has it that their latest venture, a collaboration with Disney called Venomous Villains will hit the market in September 2010. The collection will feature four villains from the Disney character treasure box and portray them as real badasses.

The four SKU collection will feature lipstick, …

Allure.com Featuring BeautyStat: Store Makeup Testers – Are They Safe?

A couple of weeks ago, we heard about a new makeup line and asked for samples to try (yes, it’s a rough life). We were told they had only one sample set—and it had been touched (code word: contaminated!) by other people. So there was no way I was trying that product—and not just because I’m a germ-phobe (which, admittedly, I am).
Allure has reported more than once on the sanitary pitfalls of used makeup. And now Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia is confirming the dangers: In a study of tester …

Lancome Juicy Tubes Turns 10, Celebrates Earth Day with Natural Origin Lip Gloss

As Earth Day turns 40, Lancome’s Juicy Tubes turns 10 years old. Happy Birthday (or un-birthday, if you’ve been watching too much Alice as I have) to both our generous planet and to Lancome Juicy Tubes!
We’ve been huge fans of the Juicy Tubes ever since they debuted, and we swear we’ve collected them over the years like museum pieces, gloss by gloss and flavor by flavor. Now, in honor of Earth Day, Lancome debuts its 100% Natural Origin limited-edition gloss with honey as its chief ingredient. Bears and bees are …

New Sally Hansen Launches:Pure Scent-Sation Hair Remover for the Face & Body, Insta-Smooth Pods Crème Hair Remover for Face

Sally Hansen has always been a leader in nail care, and with the introduction of two new hair removal products, they are fast cornering the market on that as well. At yesterday’s launch event, amongst manicurists outfitted in white lab coats, we were given insight into the science behind this season’s new and innovative formulas.
The Pure Scent-Sation Hair Remover for the Face & Body ($8 for face, $10 for body) is truly unlike any other because it’s odor free. Why didn’t anyone think of this before? And the fact that …

MAC Liberty of London Lipstick Swatches

When I first saw the fabrics from Liberty of London, my heart skipped a beat. These prints — so pretty, so Alice in Wonderland and so flowery — reminded me of books that I had read in childhood, and loved: Enid Blyton (whom many of you won’t know because she’s a British author who seems to be the best kept secret since the Illuminati code), and of course, Lewis Carroll.
Everything about Liberty of London is so British — and yet, so universal. As I mentioned to you before, the packaging …

Last evening, I went to the Shizuka New York Day Spa to get a Swarovkski Crystal Mani. I had not really heard too much about this salon apart from the fact that it had started the infamous “bird poop” facial. Enough said.
The mani, which costs $45, involves a basic manicure with a hand massage and some Swarovski crystals applied to my nails. Here’s a look with the Blue India Nail Lacquer from the MAC Liberty of London collection. This dark green blue shade has a pearly, creamy finish and is …

Of all the MAC collections I’ve seen this past year, Liberty of London had me at Freedom. The makeup, the packaging — everything was so elegant, over the top, 1970’s flower power mixed with elegant Briticism and a carefree joie de vivre (oops, that was French, but what the heck?) that ushers in Springtime.

The kaleidoscopic prints of the Liberty of London designer label are prevalent in this super chic collection. Here we spotlight two eyeshadows, Birds & Berries (a frosted dark green blue in a Veluxe Pearl finish) and Dame’s …

Clarins doing makeup for the Summer? I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read about it. The name, Instant Sunlight, is particularly clever and makes me think of lazy, languid beach-filled days on Fire Island and the Hamptons.
The mochas and browns in the Clarins Instant Sunlight Makeup Eyeshadow Palette have summer spice written all over them:

The collection also has a Smoothing Luminating Compact in Natural and Bronze:

There are three Click & Gloss Lip Glazes in Vanilla, Coral & Cinnamon:

I am a die-hard eyeliner junkie. I have jetted out the door, typical “New York Minute” style, wearing no makeup except my eyeliner (which to me – is like wearing a good outfit and killer shoes).
So, naturally, when my dear friend Karen Robinovitz unveiled a bevy of new products to the world at large on HSN, I simply had to have the Lashionista-Modelista Mascara-Eyeliner combo in After Dark.

This is a magical wand because it combines the Bonnie and Clyde, the Bert and Ernie, the Regis and Kelly of eye products: …
