Walking into Backstage for Lela Rose I felt like I stepped into a time machine – bordeaux lips and finger waved hair.
Makeup: Stila, Sarah Lucera
Inspiration: Vintage; Old Hollywood
The look begins with polished skin using Stila’s Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer and perfecting concealer. It is important to perfect the skin, leaving an even, flawless canvas. Light taupe/brown colors are applied to the eyes; diffused leaving no harsh lines. The finale was a merlot power lip. Daring Long Wear lip color was mixed with a the brown smudge pot to achieve the …

THE TREND WE SAW: A MODERNIZED, TEXTURIZED VERSION OF THE BUN
Christian Siriano seldom disappoints. Actually, let’s make that never.
His show last evening reminded us of the romantic, Marie-Antoinette style age, with his chief inspirations being the cultures of Africa, India and China.
Think beaded necklaces, floor-length dresses with more ruffles than Christina Hendrick’s Oscar gown. As for the hair, well it’s bound to be really regal and royal, right? Antoinette Beenders for Aveda created a texturized bun using Aveda Control Force Firm Hold Hair Spray.
The result is a glam …

It was a look that I had seen in some “theme and variations” form throughout the Fall 2010 Fashion Week shows: pink matte lips, intense eye and a fair, almost “Swiss Heidi in the mountains” skin.
Tadashi’s clothes were inspired by Mother Earth, as seen from an airplane window. Hence the silver dresses, browns, greens and punches of colors in the clothes. “The textures and the pleatings are all inspired by the Earth,” says Tadashi. “Everything is wearable.”
Rodney Cutler, who did the hair for Tadashi, says the look for the show …

The Makeup at Altazurra created by Tom Pecheux for MAC focused on a dark, glossy eye. Using Meeow Lipglass up to the brow, smudged with smolder eye pencil along lash line, and then smudging Fearless Lipstick (a burgundy shade) under the eye as liner – eyes took center stage.
Studio Fix Lash Mascara & groomed brows finished this look. Skin had a very clean finish and cheeks were natural. Lips were erased and toned down with foundation to make the eyes the center of attention. Going for a gentle …

There were five distinct nail looks for the Marc Jacobs Fall 2010 Collection, including shades from light beige to a dusky mauve. The makeup was very minimalist, and the hair was let down in an easy, breezy wavy texture reminiscent of the models in La Vie Des Autres. The makeup was done by NARS Cosmetics.
CND’s Roxanne Valinoti(with Elisa Ferri) created five unique nail shades for an atypical rainbow spectrum of color ranging from creamy brownish gray to light lavender beige in order to complement the Greige [Gray + Beige] palette …

The look at Catharine Malandrino for Fall 2010 encompassed leather, trees and a theme of Mongolian Nomad.
The makeup created by Tom Pecheux for MAC focused on emphasizing the eyes and the cheekbones leaving the lips bare.
Check out his video here:
Jan Arnold, the co-founder and creative director of CND took her inspiration for the “leather like” nails from Malandrino’s theme of Mongolian Nomad. Called the “ bark mani” the CND team created the look with 1 coat of Deep Ruby, 1 coat of Copper Shimmer, 1 coat Super Matte Topcoat.

The week’s not over yet, but we’ve seen some rather extraordinary nails at the tents, and wanted to share. So far, three looks by Diego Binetti, Ruffian and Catherine Malandrino wowed us with their “look at me, I’m out of the park” attitude. All nails were done by Creative Nail Design.
Diego Binetti
We loved this tough, rocker chick leather nail at Diego Binetti’s Fall 2010 show. It screams “don’t mess with me” but in a highly urbane way.
Catharine Malandrino
We love the leather nail polish at this Fall 2010 runway show!
And here’s …

Tired feet, aching muscles and stilettos do not help during the steam train course that’s Fashion Week. So when we heard that there was an oasis in the desert called Robert Verdi’s CVS Reinventing Beauty Luxelab Lounge to take us away from the tigers, we pounced.
I was actually curious to see what CVS had done for this beauty lab since I am also Editor of their Reinventing Beauty Magazine (shameless plug: you can pick it up at Rite Aid and CVS stores and it’s only 99 cents!). But I’ve always …

Finally! A show where backstage beauty showcased both gorgeous guys AND gals…
The last show on the last day of fashion week is for those who are tougher than nails and who have more energy than Wall Street’s Bull. But nevertheless, I could not afford to miss backstage at Tommy Hilfiger (he IS opening a flagship on 5th Avenue, after all).
As expected, the look was very simple and American sweet (think The Notebook meets Genie Francis in Gen. Hospital). Lisa Butler for MAC Cosmetics says, “we used a pink and slightly …

I never would have thought of acid yellow eyeshadow as a minimalist look, but Phillippe Chansel for MAC at the Rosa Cha show convinced me otherwise. The bright accessories from this swimsuit collection inspired equally happy eyeshadow.
Chansel started off by mixing Studio Sculpt foundation with Face and Body Mixing Medium to give a lighter version of perfect coverage. He dusted cheekbones with Mineralize Skinfinish in Blonde and used Slip Pink gloss – really more of a coral – on lips.
And the eyes stole the show (quietly!) with …
