It’s not everyday one gets to have their current makeup look analyzed by a top makeup artist!  So, I jumped at the opportunity to speak with celebrity makeup artist, Tia Dantzler. She has been creating beautiful faces since 2001, starting with weddings and now is the go-to makeup artist for some of the most notable celebrity faces; everyone from Viola Davis to Jennifer Hudson have been blessed with Dantzler’s picture perfect looks.

On the day I spoke with Tia she was looking at the photo I had sent her of my current look. She was going to give me tips specifically for my face! The best part about these tips are using everyday, affordable products from Johnson’s. No need to spend top dollar when you can get the same results from time-tested products and a little creativity.

Here were her recommendations (these tips can work for almost anyone).

For fuller brows: Dust a little bit of Johnson’s Baby Powder on a brow brush and then fill-in with a brown pencil. The brown pencil fills and covers while creating a softer look than black. Wipe off extra powder and voilà!

For fuller lashes: Apply the same concept as you would to your brows, lightly dusting Johnson’s Baby Powder to lashes. Use black mascara over the powder to create mega volume.

Now that I know how to create full lashes and brows on the fly, I had to find out what other Johnson’s beauty tips she had.

*Use JOHNSON’S Baby Oil to remove eye-makeup.

*Use JOHNSON’S Baby Oil Gel or JOHNSON’S Baby Creamy Oil to lock in moisture and give the skin a red carpet-worthy shine.

True to his words, a burly bouncer opened a door in the rear of the shop to reveal the restaurant. It was, as promised, a really cool place. And it was not the last surprise of the evening. I heard the word ‘matchmaker’ and prepared my self for an evening of rules, such as Patti Stanger’s slightly controversial if entertainingly phrased assertions. The very approachable Steve Ward, who runs a matchmaking service with his mother, kicked the evening off by saying the survey results didn’t surprise him one little bit. Hallie Bowman, on the other hand, found herself caught off guard by some of the answers.

This one did it for me: Men are twice as likely to notice a bad hair day as they are a blemish. As Ward explained its obviousness, he likened hair to a beacon. It’s a large feature in and of itself, and a man will notice it from across the room, while a zit seems like a tiny detail in comparison. In fact, 74% of men said they notice women because of their hair. As for what constitutes ‘good’ hair, the takeaway there is health. Men want to see healthy, well-kept hair because they assume it will belong to a healthy, well-kept woman – 86% of men believe how a woman cares for her hair reflects how she cares for herself. Bowman encouraged women everywhere to make use of deep conditioning masks for their specific hair types, but they’re especially important now in the colder climates.

When it comes to getting ready for a date, Ward and Bowman’s cups runneth over with advice. When asked if their date had time to do either makeup or hair, 80% of men said that they would prefer their lady spent the time on her hair. 40% of men feel that having great hair ‘completes the package of an attractive-looking woman,’ and Ward points out that hair needs to ‘fit’ with a woman’s look as well ( i.e., high-maintenance hairstyles need to be worn with couture clothes, and girl-next-door hair should go with a laid-back wardrobe.) Bowman offered some tips for preserving health and sex-appeal in a hairstyle beset by inclement weather. First, style you hair as you want it at home, even if you’re just planning on covering it up with a hat. Using a good mousse or gel with your styling tools will make it easier to revive your hair when the hat comes off once you’re back indoors. As for the reviving itself, Bowman recommends carrying a small brush and a travel size can of hairspray for fine-haired women, and a straightening balm if your hair is coarser. Do the trusty flip-upside-down-and-brush move, and then hit hair with a fortifying does of product to make your style date-worthy again.

The takeaway of the evening came back again and a gain to health. If your hair looks shiny and is soft to the touch, everything else is negotiable. I’m sure the shot of confidence that comes from having healthy hair styled in your own favorite w ay goes much farther toward attracting a man than any other hard and fast rule. With a new movie coming out, “How Do You Know?,” Reese is soon to be hitting the movie premiere circuit and I am excited to see what she shows up in.

Looking through pictures of Reese you can definitely see her evolve from the girl next door into a star in her own right.  That may explain her receiving the 2,425th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last week.  Yes a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame accredits her acting ability but I would give her a star for her fashion ability, as well.  Reese never fails to keep it classy, all the while with an added sex appeal.  Not to mention the make-up she wears to make her baby blues pop.

Get the look: Remember less is not always necessarily more, well when it comes to clothing that is (make-up is a whole other story).  Men like mystery; pick your best asset, whether it be your legs or your back, and display them like you would your favorite piece of jewelry.  Reese has an amazing body and likes to show off her curves in body hugging dresses.  Knowing her best asset, Reese tends to wear a décolleté neckline, but never revealing too much cleavage!

To receive her star, Reese wore a black and red polka-dotted dress paired with red open toed pumps.  I like how she accented the red dots with the red shoes. (Side-note: Make sure your shoes are not slipping off.  In some pictures it looks like Reese’s shoes are too big but it might be because they are open toed and her feet are sliding to the front) If you want to find a beautiful and affordable dress I would highly recommend Asos.com.  The holidays are in full swing and with New Year’s Eve right around the corner our closets can use some new friends.

When Reese is on the red carpet her eyes are usually the showstopper, you can see them from a mile away.  Reese applies a smokey eye; there is a general misconception that a smokey eye can only be black and gray.  This is not true because they can be any color but Reese generally sticks to neutral colors in the bronze family.  Start by applying a primer to the eyelid to prevent shadow creasing and prolong the wear.  The worst is when your shadow travels to the crease.  I recommend MAC’s paintpot …a little can go a long way!  Then it is time for shadow, I absolutely adore Dior’s 5 Couleurs in Sunset Café.

Using the lighter gold color on the lid and concentrating on the outer corner with the olive color.  By concentrating on the outer corner, you are adding the smokey effect.  Take the residue on the brush and sweep under the lower lash line.  We cannot forget a bold line on the upper lash-line.  I have fell hard in love with Laura Mercier’s Caviar Eyeliner in black. Show some love to your lashes by adding several coats of mascara.

What is the primary difference between organic and green makeup? As I understand it, organic has to be 100%, while green makeup can have synthetic ingredients in them as well?

AR: Precisely. “Green” makeup is more about not containing harmful chemicals, like parabens, talc, mineral oil, synthetic fragrances, aluminum, etc., whereas “Organic” makeup must be made with only certified organic ingredients. It is very difficult to create makeup that is “organic” that still performs, however, many “Green” brands are beginning to use organic ingredients whenever possible.

Are you planning an organic line soon? Why or why not?

I am looking to use organic ingredients in my formulas, but not to go 100% organic. One thing people must remember is that just because an ingredient is “organic” or “natural” doesn’t mean that it is good for you. In fact many naturally occurring substances – take lead for example – can be very harmful to one’s health. The guideline I generally follow is for an ingredient not to be ranked more than a 3 or a 4 on the Enviormental Working Group’s “Skin Deep” database.

Tell us a bit about why you created your line. Was there a niche or need you wanted to fulfill?

I am proud to say that Alison Raffaele Cosmetics was the first makeup artist developed line to go “Green”. The need I saw that wasn’t being addressed was profession quality makeup that was free of harmful chemicals. As a result, we have a great following among makeup artists!

Any new products on the horizon?

Right now I am working on a propylene-glycol free version of my Inner Glow gel blush and a Pressed Mineral Powder – I’m hoping to launch them in the summer or early fall.
