(Review, Before/After Photos): C.O. Bigelow Mentha Tingling Foot Cream and Chapped Hands Remedy

23 October 2011 85 Comments

Since the colder months are around the corner, it’s time to stock up on necessary items. I don’t mean food and snacks, but remedies that fix dry skin.

C.O.Bigelow, the country’s oldest apothecary, really knows its formulations. From the Mentha Tingling Foot Cream to the Chapped Hands Remedy, each product is carefully numbered, and the presentation is so “apothecary.” The only thing you’re not getting is a doctor in his lab coat writing out prescriptions.

Co Bigelow Mentha Foot Cream

Geeks that we are, we love the presentation and packaging — it really fits the brand.

We had the opportunity to review two products that are included in this giveaway.

The Chapped Hands Remedy is a sleek portable tube that is super cute. Its formulation containing 40% glycerin makes your skin hydrated within minutes. For $14, this is a winter lifesaver. Take a look at the before/ after photos below (we also love that it’s TSA friendly at 1.7 oz):

The Tingling Foot Cream contains 2.25% Peppermint Oil and comes in a sleek green tube that’s a perfect stocking stuffer. It also contains aloe vera, so you can use it to soothe tired skin especially if you’ve been out in the sun. The best way to use this is to wash your legs and dry off with a towel before you apply this all over.

It’s not too pepperminty either, which is a characteristic of most foot creams.

In honor of fall and winter, we’re giving away a set of the below items to one lucky winner:

C.O. Bigelow Ultra Mentha Lip Shine: flavored Mentha lip balms which give you a glossy shine. $7.50.

C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Tint: mint-infused lip balms. $7.50 each.

C.O. Bigelow Mentha Tingling Foot Cream (described above: $14)

C.O. Bigelow Chapped Hands Remedy No.1012 (above; $14)

GIVEAWAY: To enter, leave a comment below on what your favorite skincare routine is during the cooler months. A winner will be picked by November 30th.

My favourite skincare routine in winter is surprisingly simple – in fact, it’s ‘lazy-simple’! I don’t like entering our cold bathroom to wash my face on winter mornings so I keep a packet of quality face cleansing wipes next to my bed so that in the morning when I wake up I simply wipe over my face while I’m still warm in bed!! I like the wipes that are infused with beautiful quality ingredients – it makes my lazy winter skincare morning routine even more worthwhile and effective.

There can’t be enough said about moisturizing-morning, noon & evening. For feet, I often use Vaseline. I slather it on, then put on some heavy cotton socks, before bed and after a bath-it keeps my feet soft. I have yet to find something really good for hands.

During the cooler months, I like using Burt’s Bees products on my lips. I like how they have natural, wonderful benefits. For my hands & other dry areas, I use coconut oil. It is, however, very greasy so I use it sparingly. I love to put it on my feet in the evening and cover with socks, then in the morning my feet feel soft and smooth. For my face, I belong to Skin Authority in which I receive products every 4 months or so, suited for my skin. I love the vitamin A in the evening, because it is a bit thicker than the regular moisturizer. That’s my story :)

  • Donna Wymer said:

I like to clean my face before bed and spray a spritzer that has vitamin B and lots of water in it. It seems to hydrate my face and make me feel good. I am always looking for good hydration for my skin.

I live in California on the coast so we don’t really have the extreme weather changes that other parts of the country have. The only thing that does change is that my hands always seem a bit drier so I try to moisturize with lighter creams during the day and get out the heavy duty hand creams at night.

  • Tamanta C said:

My favorite skincare routine during the cooler months is to: moisturize, moisturize, and moisturize. After a shower I use a body lotion all over including my feet. I use a heavier face moisturizer and a special eye cream. I always carry in my purse a small hand lotion to put on after washing my hands. I also keep a tube in my car and gym bag. I also have a small bottle of water to spritz my face throughout the day. I have tubes of lip treatment in my purse, gymbag, and car.

  • kat said:

I love to exfoliate & hydrate. And I love CO Bigelow stuff!

  • TWilliams said:

I live in oh-so-dry CO, so a skincare regimen is a must. Right now I’m using a couple glycolic acid products (I have KP, so I have to be good about moisturizing) in the am and pm, but I need to be better about my hands and feet. I tend to overlook them. I volunteer at a children’s hospital so I am constantly washing my hands and using the anti-bacterial liquids which are awful to my hands. I would love to see if C.O. Bigelow’s products help me out. I use their lip products and have been very happy with them.

During the winter, I always make sure to use plenty of lotion on my skin to protect it. I particularly like to make sure I cover my elbows and heels, and I do not go out in the cold weather without lotion on my face…ever. I have used many brands, but I will say this…a friend gave me some C.O. Bigelow lotion as a gift once, and I used EVERY DROP I could get out of that bottle because I loved it so much! My husband wanted to know why the “empty bottle” was still on the counter, and I told him not to touch it because I was still using it!!! :)
