GIVEAWAY, Review, Ingredients: Proactiv + Plus 3-Step System, Exfoliator, Hydrator, Mask & Treatment – Their Best Acne Products
Anyone who suffers from acne — whether it be an occasional breakout or a serious day-to-day issue — knows how awful it is to deal with. Many of us have seen the commercials and advertisements on television for the popular Proactiv skincare line, which claims to erase acne. I have never tried the original line, however, I was super excited to try their new skincare regimen.
The new line is called Proactiv Plus and claims to be the fastest and most effective Proactiv ever. The steps are a little different than the original regimen, so I’ll walk you through the products and give you my thoughts. I have only been using this regimen for about two weeks now. Obviously, it’s optimal to use a product for at least a month to see the full effects, but I feel that I have a great grasp on how these products work so far.
The first step in this regimen is the Skin Smoothing Exfoliator. This product has a slight smell, but nothing too strong if you are particularly sensitive to scents. The texture is very thick and it has micro exfoliators in the cleanser. They are not rough on the skin and provide a great way to really clean your skin deep down.
This wash gently and effectively lifts away dead skin cells, traces of makeup, oils and other substances that would otherwise clog your pores. It claims to give your skin an immediately brighter and smoother look and feel. This product has a mild concentration of micro-crystal benzoyl peroxide (2.5%), which is common in most acne products, and kills the bacteria that causes acne. This product also aims to increase the hydration in your skin and minimize the appearance of pores.
It is an amazing cleanser! It claims to be suitable for all skin types, whether your skin is the driest of dry or the oiliest of oily, even the most sensitive skin. I have combination/oily skin for reference. I found that this product worked amazing for me; I wouldn’t necessarily say it provided intense hydration, however, it didn’t leave my skin feeling dry and tight. It did an awesome job at removing all traces of makeup (after removing the majority with a makeup-removing toilette, of course).
Step Two is the Pore Targeting Treatment. This product also contains benzoyl peroxide (2.5%). The Smart Target Technology helps to transport the acne medicine off the skin’s surface to minimize dryness and irritation, and deliver it directly into the pores. It is supposed to minimize surface dryness, irritation and redness while clearing your acne blemishes and preventing future breakouts.
Glycerin also helps lock in moisture, providing a soft glow. This formula is lightweight, non-greasy, paraben-free, non-comedogenic and dermatologist-tested. It will not leave a filmy or greasy residue. It is sort of like a mixture between a serum and a gel — I actually like it. You do not need much of this product to cover your entire face; I really love the fact that it has a pump on it as well, providing for easy application.
This gel absorbs into the skin rather quickly and I did not experience any problems with it breaking down my foundation or other makeup throughout the day. This product did not overly dry out my skin — it did leave a little bit of a tacky feel to the skin, but once it completely absorbed in, that feeling went away.
The last step in this new skincare regimen is Step Three, which is the Complexion Perfecting Hydrator. It claims to continue the acne-clearing process and help prevent new breakouts. It also is supposed to reduce redness and irritation, absorb excess oil and provide a more even skintone — all while brightening the skin for a smoother and more radiant looking complexion.
The key ingredient in this particular product is salicylic acid (0.5%), which is another popular acne-fighting ingredient. This product is also paraben-free, non-comedogenic and dermatologist-tested — suitable for all skin types. Lastly, it has a few key ingredients which are supposed to brighten the skin such as licorice extract, bearberry, sophora root and kojic acid.
This product is given the description of being silky-rich and having a luxurious texture. It doesn’t look quite like a cream, more like a mixture of a gel and a cream; it applies and feels like a cream once on the skin.
At first glance and application, I thought this would be too heavy of a moisturizer to wear during the day, underneath my makeup. But, I still put it to the test. I found that this product did not actually cause my makeup to breakdown any faster as I had anticipated it would. I definitely give Proactiv points for putting together a product that is suitable for wearing underneath makeup.
The last product in this line is the Skin Purifying Mask, which is meant to be used two to three times a week in conjunction with the other products in this line. The key ingredient in the mask is sulfur (6%), which is a popular ingredient used to fight acne, but is not readily found in most drugstore products that I’ve seen.
This is a maximum strength product, and the sulfur is supposed to draw out impurities. This mask is also paraben-free and contains a health complex of antioxidants, vitamins and botanicals to condition and moisturize the skin.
The mask did not have a strong scent to it and applied as a sheerish, white layer over the skin. It was not difficult to wash off either — you only need to leave it on for 10 minutes to feel the effects. After washing it off, your skin looks absolutely amazing! I noticed that it helped to even my skintone and whenever I use this in the morning, I feel like I’m going to have a good skin day. My only issue is that I wish this mask came in a larger tube with the rest of the skincare line, because I think this tube is a little tiny.
Overall, if you’ve ever read any of my skincare reviews for acne-geared products, you’ll know that I can tend to be a little harsh. However, I was majorly pleased with this particular line. (Okay, I’ll just say that I love this!)
Within days, the little bit of blemishes that I had here and there were going away like a dream! I did have two or three pimples pop up while using this line, but it wasn’t anything outrageous. I also found that using a bit of the sulfur mask to spot-treat at night worked well. What I mean is that you can put a little dot of the mask over a pimple, go to sleep, and wake up in the morning and wash it off. This helps the pimple to reduce in size and redness. I didn’t’ find anything on the Proactiv website saying this mask could be used for that purpose, but it didn’t cause me any issues.
I did notice that the entire regimen caused my skin to look a little dry around my nose and eyebrows, but it wasn’t extremely dry, just slightly. I think if you are experiencing dryness like this, just reduce the use of the products to once a day as opposed to twice a day. It wasn’t uncomfortable, and I found that applying a more intense hydrating face cream to those specific areas helped a lot and restored the hydration back into the skin. If you already have extremely dry skin, I’m not sure if this would aggravate your skin or not (again, I have oily/combination skin).
With respect to what these products claim to do (clear acne), I think they do a remarkable job. I don’t think this is going to be a miracle product, but I do think this is one of the best acne products I’ve tried on the market. I would continue to use it.
I haven’t tried the original Proactiv line, as I’ve said, so I can’t compare as to whether or not this line works better. But I can tell you that I enjoyed using this line as someone who is in their 20s and still experiences acne breakouts. I would definitely recommend this product.

As a preteen, I had mild to moderate acne, yet when I entered my twenties, my acne only got worse. I’ve tried just about everything Walgreens has to offer when it comes to acne control and was even persuaded (and sadly mislead) by those late-night Murad commercials. At 23, Proactiv plus will most likely be my last attempt at trying to get rid of the blemishes on my own before I begin to set aside money in my budget for regular appointments to a dermatologist!

right now i have with adult acne . its driving me crazy it i have a spot treat meant which is doing nothing the zits will go away for a day or 2 and reappear in the same place . i have them on chin above my lips and behind my ears . i never had them like this as a teen . its painful . i have used the original proactiv as a teen and young adult and it worked wonders . now in my late 30s would like to try the new product to see if it works . money is tight so id like to try it first so i know weather to get the original proactiv or this new proactiv+ .
I tried Proactiv when I was in high school and it worked well with my acne problems. I then ventured out and tried new things and had decent skin for a few years. In the last two years, however, my skin has been a nightmare! I’ve tried countless face washes/scrubs and nothing really gave me the skin I used to have. The last 3-6 months have been the worst – I’ve started developing (what I think to be) cystic-type/deep blemishes well beneath the surface of the skin and I’ve never had these before. Id really like to try this new and improved Proactivplus line. Ive suffered for most of my adult life with acne and also the unwelcome additon of hyperpigmentation left from acne scars. Ive tried many products, including the Original Proactiv that was too harsh and drying. I would give my honest review and pix if I received this complimentary. I just moved bk to my NC home state after breaking up with my fiance and losing two jobs…and Im a mom. So things are tough right now..the last thing I need is bad skin at a job interview. The ‘T’ is this: My cousins had such luck with the first system, that they bought it for me when I was a teen, it did NOTHING for me. Absolutely nothing. Cleared them of cystic acne, quickly and completely. Family scratches head. I keep trying it over the years and nothing, finally become a blogger and try everything else under the sun, and with the exception of Crème de la Mer, which on my salary I can’t quite keep in stock, I’m still at square one. I’m willing to give them another go around, maybe this time it will work for me. Can you work your super magic my dear nnd get them to include the scrub brush as well?

Right now I’m actually in tears about this giveaway. I’m a 37 yr old woman with constant painful, blemishes all over my face&back. I’ve tried everything…… including proactive when I was in my 20s&sadly it stopped working for me after about 8mos of use. I’ve been wanting to try this new formula, but due to health problems just don’t have the money for it. :’( Even prescriptions don’t work! I never go out anywhere due to no makeup really helps&I’ve become very self conscious. I go from really good, tamed acne to extreme breakouts. It’s not very fun not know when my skin will do a complete 380. With the flare ups there are the discolorations which, I feel has become my biggest issue. It clears up then it’s back to really bad. I feel as though, I have not found a balance for my skin, so why not try out the line.

I have been battling what appears to be an ever-growing acne problem for more years than I care to remember. I have used Proactiv since I was 15 years old and loved how my skin looked after I used it for 4 years. Like an idiot, I changed skin care lines and went with a different brand. After six months of using this product my skin looked so bad that my parents and my boyfriend told me my face looked a mess. So I went right back to Proactiv and a week later my face is clear as ever. However, I’ve seen Proactive+ and read the reviews that I could find. This sounds promising and I would really like it! I love the original Proactiv, but you like more from the skin care line now that I am older.
My skin breaks out in the T zone a lot. I work night shift and that doesn’t help my acne either. I am constantly trying new things, washing my face, not wearing make up, and would love to try this.

my acne crème I use now doesn’t work. I need proactive bad.
I dislike the fact that I have dark spots.
Since I was 12 years old ive been suffering from moderate to severe acne. I am 35 years old now and its just as bad! If I am stressed out or its around my time of the month it gets much worse and not only is it painful but its seriously embarrassing… my daughter who is 15 even commented that I look like a teenager because of my “zits” which made me want to crawl in a hole. Every day I have to put on loads of foundation, concealer and powder just to attempt to somewhat hide the redness and bumps all over my face!
I would give anything to have clear beautiful skin but so far nothing has worked very well. Ive been to a dermatologist in the past but they prescribe creams that dry my skin out so bad it starts to peel and ends up looking even worse. I have tried many OTC products over the years but they don’t work. Since learning so much about Proactiv i am positive there is finally an answer to my problem, having clear skin without severe dryness is a dream come true.

I’m pretty sure I have tried just about every acne product on the market, in addition to a daily regimen of doxycycline which has caused other issues. I used the regular Proactiv for a while and I liked it but eventually I couldn’t afford to keep the habit up. Then once I could again I questioned whether I was ready to start all over again! I saw the commercial for this new Proactiv (and it reeeeeally caught my attention because Adam Levine was on it) and I’m really intrigued by it. I love the idea of an exfoliator instead of just a cleanser. I try really hard to keep my skin as clear as possible, especially since I’ve been overweight all my life. At least my skin can look good! Plus I’m in the process of looking for a new job and interviews can be nerve-wrenching enough without also being self-conscious about the little critters that pop up on your face all the time.
My son, who suffers from terrible acne, just said to me that it was time to try something else because what he was using wasn’t work. Well, here it is, just what the doctor ordered. Thank you for the opportunity to allow me to help my son!!!!

I thought my acne days would end once I entered my 30′s but boy was I wrong. I’ve tried proactive before and it’s an amazing product, I know it will get my face back to tip top shape.
Actually I do not want to win this for myself. If I won I would give it to my friend. She is the prettiest girl but is not very outgoing & I know it is because of her acne. This prize would hopefully bring her the self confidence to show the rest of the world what a wonderful person she is.

Since I’ve tried ProActive for my oily skin and it works for my skin. I would love to try ProActiv Plus. I can’t stand my oily skin cause it breaks out sometimes when I use oil cleanser.

Ever since I had my 2nd child, who is almost 5, I’ve been breaking out worse than a teenager. I’ve tried so many different products, including perscription creams and can’t seem to beat it. I’ve had a lot of medical problems related to my last pregnancy, and couldreally use this to increase my self-esteem.

I”ve discovered that as I’ve reached 40ish my skin breaks out more now that when I was younger and I at my wits ends as what to do.
I seem to break out every once in a while. I’m clear, then BAM. It might be related to hormones/cycle. Whatever the reason, I hate it!
I get clogged pores easily, and I hate it. Then my pores look huge because there’s too much gunk in them. I end up using makeup to cover them up, so it’s a vicious cycle.

I have have acne for several years now and have tried just about everything on the market and it still wont get rid of the white head bumps beneath the surface my skin. Ive heard this proactiv line was successful in healing those kind of pimples but i just never had the time to call and purchase it. I would love to see if practiv could solve my problem.

I have had trouble with acne my whole life, even now as an adult. I don’t know if it’s genetic, but my poor brother and I have been dealing with it forever. I have tried just about everything, some things work better than others, but I haven’t found anything that has been consistent and worked over the long haul (even if a product did work for a while, it would always end up stop working at some point). I’ve always been curious to try ProActiv, since I’ve seen the commercials, but haven’t actually done it yet, so I would love this opportunity to try it and see if it is everything people say it is.

I thought only teens and young adults had acne issues, but it seems as i get older, it can be at times worse than ever. I break out every month but what is more frustrating is the scarring on my face!
I am 50 years old and I have more acne now than I have ever had. It’s cystic acne and its so irritating! I get most of it on the sides of my neck, around my hairline and behind my ears? I’m so self conscious of it that I won’t put my hair up and go out in public. I have to put concealer on to go to the gym. I need something that will work. I’ve tried so many different kinds of acne kits it’s not even funny. Now I have to worry about wrinkles so I have to be careful about over dying my skin. This sounds like it might be wha t I need so I’m going to try it.

I have had acne for as long as I can remember and have tried every acne treatment out there; including prescription strength! I have very oily skin and have large pores around my nose area. I break out the most around my cheeks, jawline, and neck area. I get blackheads that leave holes, whiteheads, huge zits that leave holes, and pimples that are under my skins surface. I’ve really had it rough not to mention the scars!!! I use the original proactive now for a couple of years and cried because it helped my acne so much it was like a new face!! I still have problems with my skin being oily and suffer an occasional break out. I can’t seem to shrink or cover my pores and scars! I would love to try the new plus to see if it would work even better for me! I really hope I win.

My son has reached those years of constant breakouts on his face. I have heard about Proactive on television. It sounds like a great product but it is just so expensive. This would be a prefect way for him to try Proactive to see if it would work for him.
I’d love to try this for my daughter, on her. She has some hefty skin issues. Right now she’s using my Votre Vu products, which are working fine, but she’s young, and wasteful, and I’d be happy to find something less expensive that comes with more product per purchase to use on her instead. More Votre Vu for me! We’ve never tried proactiv. We bought another acne treatment product a while back, and then there turned up class action lawsuits against them for some problems with the ingredients or something. I’m 28 years old and for the first time in my life have acne. Crazy, very visible, painful, scar leaving disgusting acne! I have never gone through this before and feel an enormous amount of pain for anyone who has struggled with acne – especially as a teenager. Those years are so important in molding you as a person and such a condition can really affect your self esteem and confidence.

I’m in my 40s and a long time sufferer of acne. I have tried numerous treatment products and cleansers over the years, of which a few been temporarily effective, but none I would consider to be a winner. Many products are so drying causing flaky skin, just adding another problem to already problematic skin. Its embarrassing to still have ongoing break outs at my age and at times causing me not wanting to be seen in public.
