GIVEAWAY & Review: Dermatologist, Debra Jaliman’s New Book “Skin Rules” – Best Drugstore And Prescription Skincare Products
Debra Jaliman is a world-renowned New York dermatologist and spokesperson for the American Academy of Dermatology, whose high-profile clients rely on her to keep their skin healthy and looking flawless. Internationally recognized for her research and work in clinical and cosmetic dermatology, Dr. Jaliman is always at the forefront of the latest skincare news, clinical updates, and emerging trends. In SKIN RULES (St. Martin’s Press; On-sale March 13, 2012), she distills the best and most important advice she regularly gives to actors, models and newscasters into seventy-seven simple rules that will help anyone navigate the beauty aisles in stores, and ask the right questions when they visit their own dermatologist.
Filled with useful advice on how to attain your best skin ever, SKIN RULES lays out clear, easy-to-understand information on what products are worth spending money on (moisturizers, sunscreens and anti-aging products), and which ones you don’t need to pay a lot for (cleansers).
“I wanted to separate the fact from the fiction in skin care,” Jaliman says, “and make sure that people knew about the many alternatives available.”
Our motto and mission here at BeautyStat.com is that we are “For the beauty obsessed who demand the facts not fiction”, so, we sat down with Dr. Jaliman to ask her some skin care related questions: which products to buy, which are the most effective and much more! Read below to find out:
Q: What are the best skin care products from inexpensive drug store lines?
Dr. Jaliman: CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser has ceramides and hyaluronic acid so it prevents the skin from drying out. Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser has glycerin which is also moisturizing — both products are inexpensive — as I don’t believe you should spend a lot on cleansers. Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 has soy protein to brighten skin and it’s noncomedogenic.
Q: What are the best prescription moisturizers for very dry skin?
Dr. Jaliman: The prescription moisturizers recreate the barrier of normal skin and help prevent water loss. Mimyx, for example, is fragrance-free and preservative-free, so it is good for very sensitive skin. It has fatty acids that are missing in very dry skin, as well as glycerin and olive oil.
Q: What are the best over-the-counter alternatives for very dry skin?
Dr. Jaliman: Vaseline Intensive Rescue Repairing Moisture Hypoallergenic Lotion is fragrance-free and contains glycerin and petrolatum. It is very moisturizing and mild. It is very inexpensive at $4.49 for 10 ounces.
Practical, concise and extremely accessible, SKIN RULES offers invaluable information for everyone: male and female, young and old, rich and budget conscious.
DEBRA JALIMAN, M.D. has practiced dermatology in New York City for over twenty-five years, and also teaches dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where she is an attending physician. Her own best advertisement for her advice, Jaliman has appeared on a variety of local and national television shows, including Good Morning America and Nightline, to discuss her work. She lives in New York City.

My biggest skincare concern is the fact that skin is more mature so now the moisturizer that I use seemed to stopped working as well. I am in my 30′s so I know taking care of my skin is very important. The thing is there are so many products that promise great things but do they really work and are they the right product for mature skin? This. Ook seems like the right tool that could guide me go the proper products to use. Thanks
My concern is the cost of skin care as I get older. This book looks like it will certainly help me to get the most value for my dollar at the drugstore. Thanks!
My biggest skin concern is blackheads! It’s hard balancing a deep clean without drying skin out. I am always looking for helpful tips and new product launches.
P.S. The invite your friends to like us on Facebook link is not in place: “AND by inviting your friends to give us a LIKE on Facebook by clicking ….>HERE! Good luck!”

As I am getting older, concerned about preserving my skin.
It has to be my very very visible pores. It drives me crazy
My main skin care concerns are that I am starting to dry on my forehead and getting a few lines. I will never use botox but I don’t want the life line either. The rest of my face is good except for my jawline which has started breaking out. I am 51 years old so finding products that work with my oily skin that also doesn’t dry out has been a problem.
My biggest skin concern is fInding a skin care product that won’t irritate my skin. I am super sensitive and Im allergic to any perfume smells. I have to be super careful cause I’ve had an experience where I have broken out from using a product. I would love to win this book!
Thank You For The Chance For This AMAZING Giveaway!! My Biggest Concern Is My Psoriasis!! I Have Had It For Almost 12 Years,And Now Have Severe Psoriatic Arthritis And Im 32!!!! Im So Afraid The Enbrel Will Just Stop Working!!
My biggest skin care concern is fine lines and crow’s feet as I start to mature.
My biggest skin concern is having dry itchy skin and scars. I’m constantly buying products for my sensitive skin and nothing seems to work. Thank you for this opportunity.

acne. I hate the fact that as a 23 year old female, I am still finding acne sometimes. and acne scars! always picking them when younger!
dry parchy skin
Sun damage from when I was in my teens and early 20′s. If only I could go back in time!!
My biggest skin concern is finding products that work well for my skin type (oily) but don’t stress it out too much. I keep trying out new products because not many can control my skin which gets VERY oily throughout the day without stressing it out and causing breakouts, leading me to obtain more products to control those on top of my oily skin. @.@
Biggest concerns are acne and dullness solutions!
My biggest concern on my skin is my nose which is always dry up. It makes my skin flaky.
Would like to know if serums are hype
Large pores followed by adult acne scars!
My biggest concern is loss of elastcity in my skin as I get older. Skin starts to sag and wrinkle.
My biggest skin care concern is sagging skin and how to stall the process as much as possible.
My biggest skin concern is the loss of elasticity in my neck; if I use a heavy cream I break out like a teenager. The serum I use is good, but not good enough to combat this sign of aging.
My concern is to distinguish between what is hype and what really works. It appears that you cannot erase lines/wrinkles, but more provide skin with antioxidants to prevent radical sun damage. Is this true?
My biggest concern remains oily skin.
My biggest skin concern would be prevention as in aging and acne. Who would think that at nearly 40 I would be starting to see the little lines around my eyes and a few big zits on my chin. Strange!!!
My biggest concern is acne and oily skin. Nothing seems to help.
My biggest skincare is wrinkles. My forehead looks horrible.I hide them with bangs. What procedures are the best for getting rid of them besides botox and fillers?
My biggest skin concern is breakouts and under eye circles.

My biggest skin concern is discoloration and aging. The life-long meds I have to take for my childhood disease has wreaked havoc on my skin. I am also on a limited income so finding inexpensive products that work is great.
sagging jawline
right now.. acne! ugh!
Even tho’ I’m 51, I have really nice skin due to consistent use of sunscreen since I turned 21. But I still have sun damage and rosacea, so those are probably my biggest concerns. I dream of “no foundation” days!!
My biggest skincare concern is still having acne at the age of 27. Nothing I use seems to help and most products I try make my skin red and irritated.
My neck itches @ nite, I’m 49. Help #mrsvictory
My biggest beauty concern is being over 50, with somewhat
aging skin, and at the same time, getting breakouts!
Thanks, Cindi

Redness, sensitivity and fine lines ;(
my biggest concern is the major oiliness of my face! and, it’s given me the biggest pores and uneven skin tone.
My concern is I have Melasma and I have been able to keep it under control with eMatrix treatments and a round of Obagji HQ and of course with SPF both chemical and physical. Now that my round of Obagi is nearly over what can I use in between using Obagji and eMatrix? I know that I can really only use HQ 4 months at a time and then a break. So what other products can I use? I live in Arizona and when I moved here it was the extreme heat that brought out the Melasma to the surface. I have always used SPF and keep out of the sun. What is your advice?
i’m very acne-prone and have sensitive skin so controlling my skin conditions is important for me.
My sensitive skin is my biggest concern & I know I would learn a lot from the book!
