Review & Giveaway: L’Oreal’s new Double Extend Illuminator Mascara

L’Oreal’s latest mascara to be added to the lash lengthening buffet table is its new Double Extend Illuminator. A lash lengther on one side with an illuminating, almost mace-like wand (remember Givenchy’s Phenom’ Eyes?) on the other side gives you stiletto length, sparkling lashes.

L'Oreal Double Extend Mascara

The premise is for “noticeably illuminated eyes.” The formulation harvests the power of pearls (pearls are also getting huge exposure in the spring makeup department this year). This is a light-reflecting mascara that highlights flecks of colors found in the eyes, and there are four different shades specifically designed to suit your eye color:

1) Black Copper (for Blue Eyes)

2) Black Bronze (for Green Hazel Eyes)

3) Black Quartz (for Brown Eyes)

4) Black Crystal (for all Eyes)

This is a two step process, with the first step being a lengthening mascara and the second step being the Illuminating Top Coat. There are pearl-infused tones in the top coat and the sphere-shaped brush allows these pearls just to be applied at the tip.

Our Review

I am a big fan of L’Oreal’s Double Extend mascara in general. It REALLY does extend your lashes and you end up with some serious length. That said, I felt the “Illuminator” quality in this mascara fell a tad short of my expectations. I wanted my lashes to be much more sparkly than the result, but I was enormously pleased at how thick and long my lashes became (note: this is not a volumizing mascara).

The mascaras retail in drugstores now for $10.95 each.

But seeing is believing, dear readers, and without resorting to Latisse, it’s pretty fabulous to walk around with such a lash length. So, with that in mind we’re giving away TWO new tubes of the Illuminator Mascara to two lucky readers.

    I just saw an ad for this product within the last couple of days and was thinking how much I wanted to try it, so this giveaway really caught my eye. :-) My favorite aspect of mascara is definition, no matter what else the mascara does (lengthen, add volume, curl, etc.) I really can’t stand clumpy-ness and so definition is really important to me.

    I am currently using a mascara by Avon and I love that it coats each lash evenly, doesn’t clump and comes with a solution on the other end to help ease stray streaks that sometime end up on your eyelids.

    Some people prefer a wee, skinny little brush, I like a giant fat one.
    I like the bristly brushes. I like the chemistry of how the formula flatters and reacts with your individual lash type. It is like fragrance, where each formula reacts differently on each woman. I like a thick formula that really thickens or lengthens

    I just saw the commercial for this product before seeing this post. I was very interested in trying it out after viewing the ad.

    I have brown eyes and LOVE the color they have selected! And I’m ALWAYS looking to try new mascaras out. If I were stranded on an island and could only have one type of makeup it would definitely be mascara! I love the way it makes eyes pop!

    I really love a mascara that give me volume and length, I am using the falsies from Maybelline right now, but I would love to try the double extend and give it another chance, I have the original one, and I didn’t like the white stuff that you put on first. It didn’t seem to make a difference. I would really like to try this new line and see if it is as amazing as it looks! Who knows, maybe you’ll change my mind and make me dump the falsies ;) I would love the black crystal or black bronze!

    I love the idea of a mascara for the different eye colors especially one that makes them sparkle too. I need length in my mascara and love a little thickening to go with it. This is a great idea for a mascara.

    This stuff “ROCKS” I love the flecks of bronze color – it brightens my eyes and makes them “pop” – The black makes my lashes long and lush and the bronze adds a hint of glittery color without being too over the top for work – I love the bit of “splash” – makes life fun!

    I am having major winter blahs and I really need some kind of brightening and something with a little pizazz. I am basically in makeup rut and I just think that its the weather and I really need to try some new mascara I love Loreal products and the voluminous is one of my favorite and I need major length and thinkening help.     I am currently using two mascaras, 3D Extreme by Revlon and a generic brand L.A. Colors. I use two to give me more va va voom (in other words, thickness) and length.

    I like the idea of a two in one. L’Oreal’s Double Extend Illuminator Mascara is a great deal with having specific ones pertaining to whatever your eye color is plus a hint of sparkle. I would love to win this!

    The mascara I use right now doesn’t clump and it LENGTHENS my lashes so well (it’s E.L.F. studio). I really want to try this one though, and actually the fact that the shimmer “fell short” makes it more appealing to me because I would only want a hint of shimmer and not over the top.

    OMG! I have been EYING on L’Oreal commerical about Double Extend Illuminator Mascara. I would def buy those colors cause I love sparkling colors! It looks gorgeous and glam! I was planning to go to Longs or Walmart or Walgreen to buy those.

    At the moment I’m using Mirenesse 24hr Sexy Secret Weapon Mascara in Black. I love this mascara for its ease of use. If and when I make a mistake or blink my eyes too early and mascara ends up where it shouldn’t be, I just need to wait 20secs, then wipe gently with a tissue and it comes off without leaving any trace. It’s my Godsend.
