An outpouring of love, as well as sadness today was heard all over the world, as news of the death of Hollywood screen legend Elizabeth Taylor began to trickle in early this morning.

From her early days as a young actress at the age of twelve in National Velvet, Elephant Walk (filmed in Sri Lanka in 1954), her unforgettable role as Cleopatra, her tumultuous love affairs (she was married eight times to seven different husbands and one of her marriages only lasted 10 months), to her title as Dame Elizabeth, she had us all at “Hello.”

Her “violet” eyes made her an icon, and she always presented herself with grace and class. Hollywood stars, including Gwen Stefani and Dita Von Teese, took pages from her style notebook. Plus, the allure of the red lip is timeless.

Maybelline Smoke Quad

Violet Eyes: For those beautiful violet eyes, we recommend Maybelline Stylish Smokes Eyeshadow Quad in Amethyst Smokes Highlighter, Lid and Crease color, paired with a liner all in one. $5.99 at drugstores, Target, and at Maybelline.com.

Sultry Eyeliner: Those Cleopatra eyes caught our attention way back then, and you can catch glimpses with your own sultry look. Line eyes with Line Stiletto Ultimate Precision Liquid Eyeliner in Black. Sweep up and out for a “cat-eye” effect. $6-8 at Drugstores, Walgreens, Target, and Maybelline.com.
Red Lips: Few lipsticks can match the richness of Illamasqua’s red lipstick in “Box” which has more staying power than the everlasting gobstopper. We also love Chanel’s Rouge Allure Laque in Dragon #75 to get the perfect set of red lips. Moisturize your lips before applying so that you get a long-wearing lip color.

As far as celebrity fragrances go, it’s hard to argue with the numbers: White Diamonds is the one of the best-selling celebrity fragrances ever, with beauty giant, Coty, behind the brand.

Elizabeth Taylor will be missed, but why not continue her spirit and beauty ideals by channeling them in your daily makeup efforts. Have a tip to share about Elizabeth’s iconic look? Leave a comment below.

Rest in peace, Elizabeth.

I was fortunate to have met her at a carnival or fair type activity. She said she needed her hair done, so I volunteered. Her hair was so beautiful, a glossy hair with body. She went out on stage to meet her audience, and she looked and was so happy for the day’s activity. Her personality was as wonderful and her hair quality. I stepped back from the side stage to watch her, and felt like I had given my best. I felt happy as well when the audience cheered for her.
