GIVEAWAY, Review, Photos: The Body Shop Lily Cole Makeup Collection - Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Available In Pulse Boutiques

When I was a young teenybopper, hanging around the Paramus Park Mall, I shopped at The Body Shop. It was the first place I learned about skin and body care and of course my first obsession: makeup! As a 14-year-old, I can’t say that most department stores were teenager-friendly. The testers at The Body Shop though were all out in the open, and it was encouraged to try all the different products; I really learned a lot. The makeup range back then was spear-headed by Barbara Daly. Why am I mentioning this name you ask? Well, she did Princess Diana‘s makeup for her wedding. So, anything that was related to Lady Di, I needed to get my hands on.

Flash forward ten, fifteen, twenty years and new stores have opened up, come and gone. I had stopped going to The Body Shop. I suppose I had moved on to the next best thing. Newer stores seemed more open, and modern. I had abandoned my first love and had moved on to others. I always felt sad when I would walk past The Body Shop — kind of like dissing an old friend. But, I felt she just didn’t have anything new or interesting to offer me any longer.

Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to go to an event to reintroduce the public to The Body Shop. I was intrigued and decided to go. As I walked into the new boutique room, I was struck at how clean, modern and elegant all the packaging and testing areas looked. It was bright, sunny and fresh! The whole concept is based on the “Pulse” — the “Pulse” being the heartbeat of the community, therefore Pulse Body Shop boutiques. The first thing that caught my eye was a bulletin board promoting an animal cruelty campaign with the organization Cruelty-Free International. I was horrified to read that 80% of countries worldwide still allow animal testing. As a staunch animal lover, this made me sick. One of the new additions that The Body Shop will have will be a community bulletin board to promote such causes like stopping animal testing, as well as local events and causes in the community. So, each store really gives back to the community that they are in. They also have a sign up sheet so everyone can pledge their commitment to do away with animal testing for good.

As for the new store concept as a whole, I was so in love with it! The main table with all of the fragrances and body lotions looks like a cooking table, hence the name Anita’s Table. The concept is based on how the company got its start: in the kitchen of founder Anita Roddick. When you walk into the store there is a welcome wagon, showcasing all new fresh goodies — their body lotions and my favorite, the body oils. These particular oils can be used on the skin, hair and body. So nourishing and they make your hair look and smell yummy!

As a makeup artist and animal lover, their new makeup range is 100% cruelty-free. The new makeup range has just launched this month and was co-designed in part by British supermodel Lily Cole. The entire range is adorable. Don’t let the cute packaging and ladybugs fool you. This is a hard-working, multitasking line. From the Lip and Cheek Domes (15.00) to the Shimmer Cubes ($22.00), this line might be cheeky looking but it’s all business. My favorite picks from the line are the Lip and Cheek Domes in Pinch Me Pink and Crazy For Coral. They look bright in the dome, but, unlike other cream products, they are sheer and give you that dewy flushed look we all desire. I also loved the Puff On Radiance powder ($22.00).

Celebrity makeup artist Chase Aston and model create a Body Shop look

Again, packaged in a dome, this product when applied with the powder puff gives you just enough pearly radiance. No disco ball shimmer here, just a soft candlelit glow. This cosmetic range does not contain any bug shells — gross, right? — that were used to extract color for the products. Also, no fish scales were used to impart any shimmer — just mineral mica and binding agents made from natural vegetable materials, instead of fish scales. And lastly, NO ANIMAL HAIR was used to make any of the makeup brushes. All artificial hair was used, so no goats or ponies had to be shaved  for the brushes.

Last but not least, I was most impressed with how The Body Shop put their money where their mouth is. Often you find out about different charity organizations that raise so much money, yet that money intended for certain recipients never quite makes it to where it is supposed to go. The Body Shop is passionate about using natural resources, giving back to the community and helping others in need. Launched in 1987, the Community Fair Trade policy was born. Through this partnership, The Body Shop is able to access nature’s finest ingredients which are grown and harvested by local farmers. For example, The marula oil, which I had mentioned earlier, is an oil that is harvested by local women in Namibia. Harvesting and partnering with The Body Shop enables these women and countless others to build a better life for themselves and their communities.

Run don’t walk to your local Body Shop, so much to do and see. It’s a place where you can go meet with friends, meet new people, learn  new things all while pampering your body in the process. The new Pulse Body Shop boutiques. Definitely NOT The Body Shop of our youth… It’s even better. Find out more information on products and where to find a store near you at www.thebodyshop-usa.com.

So… Are you going to take the anti-cruelty pledge and buy The Body Shop products?

I love the Body Shops whipped body creams. They are thick and have great scents that linger on you. When I first went into this store I was surprised to see that we could test products and had so many choices and scents to choose from. Thanks

I love The Body Shop thick, creamy lotions, being peach and citrus fragances my top 2 options. My first visit to a Body Shop was while on a student trip in Europe and by the end of the trip my products were gone and my roomate and other female students were as impressed and “hooked” to them as myself. Keep the good work!

The body shop memories I had was when they had a $5 coupon to get anything in the store and a coupon for a free hand sanitizer. That made me happy. My favorite product is FLORAL ACAI BODY BUTTER DUO it smells so good and makes my skin feel smooth. Thanks for the giveaway.

Oh, TBS. You were also my first love. I remember walking through my town’s open air mall when I was in 7th grade, and being able to smell The Body Shop from, like, a block away. They had a coconut oil solid back then, for shiny hair, that smelled AMAZING. My then best friend had long, loooong, thing blond hair, and when she used it, it just lit up the entire room. So I bought a tin, hoping for the same thing. Nope. On my medium length thick brunette hair, it all just sort of gobbed up and made me look like I hadn’t showered. Which, to be fair, it was 7th grade. I probably hadn’t.

On the other hand, they also made a raspberry bubble bath back then that I hoarded like crazy, and they did an avocado body butter some years ago that was my introduction to my beauty product true love, avocado oil. (They discontinued it almost immediately, but it’s ok – I literally by the stuff by the jug these days.)

I haven’t stopped in there in forever (I also haven’t been to a mall in forever. Coincidence? I think so.), but it sounds like they’re still doing awesome things!

  • Aisha O. said:

My favorite Body Shop memory was a few months ago Bath and Body Works had this promotion of where you buy $10 worth of products and you get the body lotion for free. I wanted to go but I didn’t have time to. My favorite Body Shop products are the lipglosses and lipsticks because you
can put on lipstick first, then the lipgloss to have full pouty lips.

my mom always had the mango (I think it was mango) body butter from the body shop. I always remember sneaking in her bathroom and covering myself in it because I loved the smell so much. Of course she always knew I has gotten into her secret stash because she could smell me… She never got mad though, she would always just laugh about it.

I have so many great memories, with The body shop. However, I would have to say my favorite and most treasured memory is my first trip to the body shop. I went with my best friend and well we had no idea where we were walking into. We simply thought the name was interesting. As we went about the store we discovered we either hated it or loved it. Guess who loved it. That’s right, I fell in love and I’m not afraid to say it. Unfortunately, I’m not able to go as often as I would like so when I do I make sure to enjoy every minute! :) As far as a favorite product goes, I love their lipsticks and the gorgeous colors they come in. couldn’t as for a better quality. Highly recommend. :)

My cousin brought me a Strawberry Parfait lip balm home from London on a trip in the late 80′s. I was so mesmerized at the scent and texture. I was 12. The closest store was 7 hours away in Atlanta. Within a year, I had made a pilgrimage happen! Then, we got one here in Nashville. I became a coconut hair pomade fan and used it on my body and hair throughout my twenties. Now that I have a one year old, I am very concerned about the products I use on her so The Body Shop is my go to place for safe, eco-conscious products. I can’t wait to try this new line!

Hey BeautyStat, thanks for doing the Body Shop Giveaway, and don’t worry, I’ve already liked you on Facebook and invited a couple of friends. I love the Body Shop, it’s a great place to find remedies. I especially like the hand sanitizers, because it actually rids the hands from germs, unlike other brand-name hand sanitizers. I currently own one bottle of each scent: Satsuma, Strawberry, Lemon, Mango, and the newest scent – Coconut. The scents are incredibly amazing and are great to use after a Human Anatomy Lab. I began coming into the Body Shop store after a recommendation from a lab friend to use the hand sanitizers due to its welcoming scents, which overpowers the stinky lab smell. If I win five products from the New Lily Cole Cruelty-Free Body Shop Makeup line, I’ll make a YouTube video reviewing BeautyStat and the makeup line. Thank you.

I love the body shop ts such an under rated brand that provides high quality holistic cosmetics even before harsh chemical free cosmetics were in vogue. My fondest memory of the body shop was being allowed to apply makeup for the first time and my moth instinctively taking me to the body shop over every other cosmetics brand to get me started. It was then that I had my first makeover which set off a love and obsession for beauty products. In short the body shop is what made me a makeup addict.

I love the Minerals powder and Extra Virgin Minerals powders. For a long time I was looking for foundations and powders that don’t irritate or brakes my skin out. Then one day while I was in the mall to pick up my monthly supply of skin primer Matte It…(BTW I love).I purchased 408 ROSE CARAMEL and not only is the shine gone but no more breakouts that should be the name of it, No more Breakouts.

It has to be the “body butter”. It smells heavenly and leaves my very dry skin smoothe and silky! There are so many scents to choose from.

  • Evelyn O said:

My first memory is receiving a bottle of Tea Rose perfume oil. I love the scent so much. You could custom blend the scent into any one of their unscented body products. I would always get their shower gel and have one of their sales associates add a few drops in to lightly scent it. I still own that original bottle and use it sparingly; I sure wish they still made it.

The tea tree toner is very fine too! I also fall in love with the Vitamin C eye reviver duo. The Vitamin E Sink-in Mask is awesome too!

I have never used any bodyshop products, because I don’t order makeup online because you just don’t know what kind of condition it will be in when it finally ships out… And there’s no bodyshop store anywhere near me haha. I watch several makeup gurus on youtube, and have seen many of bodyshop’s products used in their videos. I always love the smoothness of the lipsticks and balms, they look so awesome. One of my friends actually has some of your foundation (I forget which one) and her complexion isn’t very even, but the minute she puts that stuff on it’s like BAM… beautiful, flawless face. I hate her for it. But anyways, I really love bodyshop’s products, but I’ve never used them myself. Dying to try them all, love, love, love!!

My best memories of the body shop are walking into the store, being greeted by friendly employees inviting us to go to the different tables which contained all different products and test them freely on ourselves. The store was always very bright, neat and clean which was refreshing. I have never seen this before. I particularly loved all the body oils they had and you could create your own oils mixing different scents together until you were happy with the final product. No other store to my knowledge does that. This way, you can customize scents and products for yourself and create your own signature scent. It was always so much fun going there and best of all, no one ever pressured you or rushed you out of the store. I remember the first time I ever saw a Body Shop was when I was visiting family in Canada. The smell and the bright colors instantly drew me in. They used to have this giant table of perfume oils and I would pick up Vanilla, Sandalwood, and my very favorite, Dewberry! I miss Dewberry so much! The only ting they have that even comes close to that scent now is the Passion Fruit Body Butter. I also loved their Japanese Washing Grains and Pineapple Facial Wash! But what I miss the most is the Cream Foundation by Barbara Daly! It was the best foundation I’ve ever used hands down! So many favorites have disappeared, that now I rarely find anything there even comparable to those great Body Shop products by Anita Roddick.

I love the philosophy of the The Body Shop most of all. And the decor and how it doesn’t feel like a STORE. It feels like a homey marketplace where you can play. And when it comes to shopping, that’s how it should be!!

My first Body Shop purchase was a set of four body butters. I think they were 1 oz each. I can’t remember what all of them were, but I do remember at least one was the Mango. Heaven in a jar!

Alright, here’s my story. i was a huge tomboy. i hated make-up and all the girly stuff. okay, let’s leave out sailor moon and barbies!! But i was never into make-up as a child. As i got older i made some friends who got me into make-up, i mean we were 9-12 years old so we were still so young! The only thing we started out with was mascara. simple right? Now here is where i branched off, i started to get into Japanese rock. Those men look like woman with amazing singing, guitar, drums, bass guitar skills! They had major make-up and clothes sometimes! it was something i enjoyed in my 6th-7th grade year. i went all out with make-up. I always put thick eyeliner on, a whole bunch of foundation and eye contacts. i looked like a punk gothic person. people were afraid of me unless they knew who i was already. But hey guess what? i eventually got out of that stage through the middle of 7th grade. So i was introduced to Michelle Phan when she still had only a few videos up. Even still i loved how she did her unique thing! I eventually really wanted to learn more of make-up and what’s good for your face, how to take care of your face and what harmonizes with what and all the different colors and textures of the make-up. I love body shop, i honestly haven’t tried so many but i must say the lotion is amazing the the eyeshadows! lovelyyyy!!!!!!

I miss the days of the old Body Shop when you would walk in the store and see a table in the middle of the store with big glass flasks; each one filled with different perfume oils. You could have a sales associate custom make a fragrance for you, mixing the difference scents. I adored the scent of Sandalwood and would have them scent the unscented body cream for me. Another favorite oil was Fuzzy Peach. Those perfume oils were awesome but then, over time, The Body Shop changed the formulas and they didn’t quite smell the same. But I still continued to buy them. I think the last perfume oil I bought was Strawberry at Christmas – 2009? 2010? I can’t remember. But it wasn’t long after that they discontinued all the oils. I hope they bring a few of the classic scents back in the future – it’s what made me fall in love with the Body Shop!

I’ve been wearing the Body Shop perfume in white musk ever since I was a sophomore in high school. Now that I’m older, I tend to layer it with other fragrances, but I’m always in to stock up every 6 months or so. I always enjoy browsing and finding new things to give to family for just because presents – those are the best kind after all.

My 1st Body Shop experience was when I was about 15 on a family vacation to Washington DC. We’d go and walk/shop all of the stores in Georgetown-many are everywhere now, but back then (I’m 37 now),these stores were new and unique to me. The Body Shop was a dream come true for a teen who would be the 1st of her friends to have such ‘fancy’ beauty products. My favorite was their freeshia scent products. i loved the solid perfume, and it became my signature scent all through high school and beyond. I also loved the testers, it was new to me since my makeup shopping outside a drugstore was zero. I’m sad to say i haven’t shopped there in years as I’ve had a tight budget and hectic life. This giveaway would be awesome to win as my makeup selection is in a very sad state! Great review, thank you.

My favorite was the full size lip gloss. I hope to set up a sample spa night for my girlfriends that they offer .

Our mall used to have TBS back in the 80′s. I was just a young girl back then, but loved going inside and smelling everything. I don’t recall a single product being a favorite. But I loved the lotions. My cousins, who were teens first introduced me to TBS. And we hung out at the mall every weekend, and ended up in the shop at one point or another. I always came home smelling wonderful. I was 7 years old, sick, and just had my tonsils removed. It was my birthday, and my cousin gave me a gift bag full of products. I remember trying them out, but saving them for school (birthday is in the summer) so that the other girls would be jealous of how awesome I smelled. lol

My best memory is from the other week actually, I took my daughter to the store after I read a comment on here and She Mentioned all the things you could do like try the make-up your self or have someone in store help you (my daughter loved that being made over shes seven almost 8 as she says lol an that was her favorite part!) I jus read another comment and she was right I dont think there are many if any other stores that have all you have to offer including the mixing scents! , I’ve only been able to do that at one other store and it was a small new age type store but it was lotion. This was sooooooo much better at your store I Really hope you guys bring that back!! My daughter and I would have loved that soooooooo much!!! Thank you though, so much I think my daughter and I are going to turn this into a once a month kind of thing where we play, have fun and then purchase our favorite things we find each time. Thank you soooooo much for having your store the way you do. If and when I own my own Shoe store thats exactly how I would run it, make it feel welcoming and fun like Visiting you grandmoms house!!! We loved it and we recommend it sooo click and def sign-up to win and def visit the store either way!!!!And again thank you for creating something soo fun for me and my daughter to enjoy time and time again ( i realy hope you bring back the oils and anything else you may have removed and I also have some really good new ideas for other things you could offer that I know people with or with-out kids would loveeeeee Email me if your interesed :D

I love the body shop products!! unfortunately the closest store is an hour and a half away. I used to have the eyeshadow quad … like the ones in the giveaway picture…They were in their own plastic cube.. there was a light pink highlight colour, a gold, a kind of taupe and a dark brown. I was the best I have ever had and i cannot find another one like it. Anyways the reason i dont have it anymore is because i forgot it in a hotel room about a year ago and when i realized it was gone, the room was already cleaned and the housekeeper said “she didnt see it”… i would imagine she kept it for her own :( If i were to win this i would be sooo HAPPY to get that eyeshadow once again! Thanks for the opportunity!

Interesting how so many people are in love with things they discontinued… I fell in love with TBS in London in 1983; I was on a winter holiday from Israel and “discovered” them; they had a Frankincense perfume oil that was THE most amazing, authentic, rich powerful scent EVER- and NO ONE has Ever made anything even remotely like it, and naturally they discontinued it. I even called and wrote to their corporate headquarters begging for any old stock they might have; no luck. :-( Oh, for the secret to that perfume oil…

THE PERFUME OILS!!!! How I loved them! Especially the very first, original Vanilla perfume oil. It smelled SOOOO good! I loved going to the Body Shop with my friends and we’d all be testing the different oils and trying to create our own custom blend. My one friend, who is a makeup artist also got me hooked on the Sandalwood perfume – she was doing my makeup one day and I thought the finishing powder she was using was scented because every time she brought the brush to my face, I got this subtle scent of of something that smelled so good. I found out she was wearing Sandalwood body lotion – a custom blend she had made at the Body Shop. That same day, I raced to the store so I could get some of it for myself!
