(Review & Photo): Carol’s Daughter new Monoi Shampoo and Conditioner

Pinterest

Monoi oil, a 2,000 year-old sacred Tahitian ingredient, is known for reducing hair breakage, snaps and splits. When I learned that this was at the core of Carol’s Daughter’s latest hair launch, my hair radar was piqued. I know that a normal head of hair sheds around 100 strands a day, but that doesn’t stop me from being overly paranoid about hair loss.

The bottle, a beautiful piece of work that looks earthy and eco-friendly, is an elegant brown, gold and white. Simple typeface gives you the important deets on the label, and there’s a cursive “After 1 use, 98% less breakage” claim at the very bottom.

Lisa Price, who I love dearly, is truly a visionary, and I knew that this line was going to be yet another hit even before I tried it. I had read about this launch in Women’s Wear Daily, and how she had tapped into celebrities Solange Knowles, Cassie, & Selita Ebanks to be the faces of the campaign.

Carol's Daughter Monoi Oil Cassie

The web site’s picture of Cassie rocking her awesome locks is pretty fierce.

When I opened the shampoo, I was taken with the fragrance. I blame the Hibiscus Extract, which is a completely soft yet effective soothing element in this pearly hair cleanser. The coconut-derived cleansers promise to clean without stripping, and they did just that. My hair did not feel assaulted afterwards…it felt clean and smelled faintly tropical. The conditioner is thick but not heavy on your hair. It’s creamy and reminds me of the consistency of pudding. It has Monoi oil and Bamboo Water to reinforce your hair structure from the inside and Pro-Vitamin B5 as well.

Carol's Daughter Monoi Oil Shampoo Conditioner Hair Mask

I adore the Hair Mask, which has the thickest consistency of the three products. It also contains Hydrolyzed Silk to help strengthen the hair from future damage. I use it once a week for thick, full hair.

Did I notice a difference in the number of hairs that broke? Absolutely. I’m not going to lie, I’m totally a happy camper because this product really delivered what it promised. For $18-$29, this line is definitely not inexpensive. You’re probably wondering if you should put your money towards a drugstore brand that’s much cheaper, or plunk down the change and then some for Carol’s Daughter.

Well, I’ll be the first to tell you that this is definitely a luxury experience. You’re not going to find this high a level of quality Monoi Oil in any drugstore brand, period. It just costs too much to source quality ingredients and the results on your hair definitely show. I believe in putting nothing but the best on my strands.

If you’re short of cash and want to just buy ONE of these products, then go for the hair mask, because at least once a week, you’ll treat your hair to the reparative benefits of Monoi Oil and Hydrolyzed Silk.

  3. natural hair woman

ok i tried this product along with my sister. It left my natural hair feeling stripped and actually changed the texture of my hair. The natural curl pattern has been almost straightened out like i have a relaxer, i am not sure if the curl pattern or texture can be repaired.

  4. gina

I used this shampoo and conditioning mask. It stripped and dryed out my hair. I had to cut my hair to a short Halle Berry style hair cut and start growing my hair over.
