I just used the Garnier w/Avocado Oil.. I love it. It washes out in I think 28 shampoos! The color is sassy!
This new haircolor from Lor’eal sounds easy. Can’t wait to try it!
Thanks for the info…
I have not tried doing my own haircolor in about 25 years so this might be the light under the tunnel for me!!!! I shared with my friends on FB and look forward to trying it real soon! Stay safe everybody! ~Cheers~
I haven’t tried a mousse or foam product yet, but I definitely want to try it! It has to be less messy than the traditional formulas! If they just have my color, I will be a happy camper! lol
Just used sublime mouse 83 ended up with sublime 62 original colour close to shade on box of sublime 83. Very disappointed with colour result, actual product quick, clean and easy to use.
hiya i actually won the loreal sublime mousse on there website i won the pure dark blonde one its really easy to use but i was going to dye my hair from mid brown to this colour and the dye actually made my hair go dark brown/black not happy at all think they stuck the wrong hair dye in the box weird but if that doesnt happen to you i deffiantly recomed this product.
I’ve just spoken to L’Oreal – they’ve said that if you mix 1/2 tsp of the colourant with 1/2 tsp of the developer you can do a strand test (why they don’t put that in the instructions I have no idea). I have just bought the Sublime Mousse in 70, but after reading these comments I want to try it out before I do the whole head. I’ve used the John Frieda mousse dye – application was so easy but that came out completely the wrong colour – so much so that they had to pay for my hair to be fixed at a salon. Fingers crossed this does not happen again…
I just used the medium golden brown and loved it. Was very easy to use by myself and am quite please with the results. I deffinately will use again.
Just spoke to Terry at L’oreal as l had sent in the contents of their product after the disappointing colour reasult
Terry advised me my now red/brown hair was the correct colour of sublime mouse 83 as the colour of my hair before dying was extreemly light. The test carried out by L’oreal was to place the sample of hair l had sent in arcoss the shade indicator on the packaging as in their opinion ii matched and my hair is golden blond, when l suggested that the colour indicator was wrong this was dismissed.
Very unhappy. If you like very dark hair this is the product for you,
if any way shape or form you required any shade of blond DO NOT USE.
You can contact Terry on 020 8762 4000 she will be happy to take your call and advise on any concerns you may have
I used it & was very disappointed w/ the product. When I applied the foam & massaged it, I could hardly see any foam… and within 5min there was no foam on my hair. I tried again n again massaged it but nothing… I was worried if it would color my hair or not.
It did color some portions of my hair.. in the front portion where most of my gray hair is.. was as it is… GRAY. Will not use this product again.
hi, i have just purchased the sublime mousse in pure darkest brown no 30 and am really scared about using it! i previously bleached by hair from its natural colour- ( a dull brown) to blonde and it took me ages to grow it out when i had enough of it.My hair is now all natural which i’m happy with but i wish it was a little darker and looked more shiny and healthy but i dont want my hair to go black because then i really would shave my head off! If anyone has used it with brown hair, did it go the colour you wanted or too dark?
thanks:)
I tried the sublime mousse, and thought wow it cant be true it is way to easy, Well it did not color my hair evenly and the gray is still showing with the price of it, i am very disapointed, now have to buy another product to fix the mess. I do not recommend it at all
I was excited about a no drip formula. Once I used it my hair felt very dry and brittle. The mousse pretty much dried up on my hair during the 30 minutes it needed to be left on and left me with a dull result and super damaged hair. I would not recommend this product!!
Yes Danielle it will give you black hair. You are putting something very dark ( darkest brown ) on dark hair of course it will be darker…
Alot of people blame the product when they picked the wrong shade and a product that was not appropriate for their hair type. Choose your hair dye Properly instead of getting the new one.
I just did no.41 and the result is a very dark iced brown. Very nice, the model on the box is under a huge light and that’s why it look lighter. I know it will fade eventually like all the other hair dye, it is normal that it look darker the first few days don’t forget.
I used the Sublime Mousse for the first time today – my regular L’Oreal dark brown product was out of stock, so I thought I’d try it. I purchased the Dark Ice Brown.
I found the smell to be pleasant, which is nice. I had a really hard time telling what I had gotten covered and what wasn’t covered. It wasn’t messy.
The conditioner didn’t work as well as the conditioner in their other products. The tube was larger, which I like – but I found the color of the conditioner – a sort of yellow – off-putting. Normally, the conditioner will just let your fingers slide right through long hair – this didn’t.
Once my hair dried, I found I missed significantly. I’m dying to cover gray – and with dark hair, the missed spots show up clearly.
Overall, I’m not impressed.
Pros: Smells nice, not messy.
Cons: Poor coverage, weak conditioner.
I’ll be going back to my old L’Oreal box o’ brown next time.
I used L’Oreal’s sublime mousse today for the first time and am very unhappy. I have a significant amount of grey around my root line and need to color my hair regularly every 3 weeks. I was very excited to try this product as it seemed new and possibly easier to use.
Easier it was however, around my root line where the color hadn’t completely faded out from my last color, it turned my hair orange (I have medium/dark brown hair) and then left the remaining grey untouched.
I am a loyal user of L’Oreal products. I have always used their other hair color products and I have even started using their Everstrong shampoos and conditioners, all of which I love. So, it leaves me greatly disappointed to say that this one just didn’t work as advertised. Am now wondering how long I have to wait to re-color because as is, this is aweful.
After becoming increasingly bored with the colour I have stuck to over the past two years (Platinum Blone with Live Colour XXL), I was excited to try this product as it seemed to boast a new way of delivering fantastic colour with minimal fuss.
After reading all of the negative comments posted here however, I am now completely put off even giving this new product a test on any part of my hair. So many people cannot be wrong about the product, and I shall now be searching for a different shade in the Live XXL hair dye series – which I REALLY recommend to everyone here. I have used the XXL dye since I was a teenager and it has NEVER given me anything other than very positive results. The colour results are precisely what it shown on the box and the colour does not fade.
Thank you to all the women here who have taken the time to review the product and left warnings to those of us who have not used it yet – and won’t be now, thanks to you all!
Anastasia.
This is by far the worst haircolor I have ever purchased. After applying the mousse it only took about 5 minutes for my roots to be completely dry and no sign of any color change. All this product did was lighten my ends. Majorly disappointed!!!
I used L’Oreal Sublime color on the 3d of March and now I am left with very damaged rough dry straw like hair. I am so upset because I have been growing my hair out for a long time now and feel I will need to cut all the dry damaged hair off to grow it out healthy. Not only did this color damage my hair but the color came out flat, dull and a weird purple tint to it. NOT HAPPY!!! I need to fix this but I am not sure what to do now for fear of making the problem worse. I will be calling L’Oreal to complain and demand they pay for salon services to correct this mess.
PLEASE do not use this color. I do not want this happening to anyone else.
BE CAREFUL! I used 41 and the color is DARK. It really looks BLACK! The foam is really nice and easy to use and for me left my hair feeling pretty nice and I thought it had no smell. I can’t stand even a few days of this Adams family look! I’ll be trying to lighten it up with color correcter. Probably won’t purchase ever again as the colors are just not anything like the box.
I tried it in 20. I naturally have dark brown hair but had all over blond highlights in it. My hair felt very damaged from the last color job and this actually improved the condition of my hair and I was happy with the end result. I would use it again.
I can’t believe there are so many negatives reviews about the sublime mousse hair dye. You guys also have to keep in mind the condition of your hair before you dyed it. From a point of view from someone who has long healthy hair, the product was absolutely amazing. My hair goes down my back so I bought 2 bottles. For those that complained about 30 min of dryness, its probably cause u needed 2nd bottle. My hair was completely saturated. Anyways so I’m in the shower and I’m washing it out and to my surprise this is the first time that my hair did not feel like straw before I put in conditioner. I was so amazed. The conditioner it came with was very rich. Better than my 30 dollar biolage conditioner. Too bad u can’t buy a larger bottle of it. OK so I’m blowdrying my hair straight and checked every inch. That mousse completely covered everything. My hair was a shiny brown with a hint of red just like the box. (Number 56) I’m so happy with it…last time I was this happy with my hair it also cost 200$ plus tip for the shampoo girl and the actual hairdresser…This was a steal..I saved sooooo much and got the same exact outcome. I love you loreal. I will never buy another hair dye again. LOL.
Oh and I also tried the sublime loreal Tanner…love it! Between my hair n skin I got a loreal Makeover and I’m veryyyyyyyyy happy. My boyfriend is too. : )
i just tried the sublime mousse 83 golden medium blond and i was a light blond, what it turned out to be was a cupper blond, not happy at all with the rezolt, i had to color it again and now im much more better,,,,,,,,,,,,,thank god. i have to admit that coloring with it was extremly easy and true no mess but the shade on the box its far away from the color u expect…i will not use it again.
Thank you ladies for the reviews, I am a redhead and was thinking about going dark medium brown with this easy product but now I’m afraid which one to use, maybe if I use dark blond it’ll come out black lol. Deff not using this product to go dark(I’m afraid to go black) and it seems like any brown color will give you black from what I’m reading, thanks girls!!
I just bought the Sublime Pure Medium Brown. My hair was two shades lighter then this, and I was trying to tone down some orangish tones that had come to my hair, so I figure I would try it. My hair is chin length, so I used one bottle and found that my hair was super dry and the mousse was gone within 15 minutes. I washed my hair and fell in love with the color. It was great. It was a tad bit darker then the shade that I currently had, which was what I wanted it. This was Saturday. By Monday night when I washed my hair, all the color washed out and I was left with a flat color that was so similar to what I had right before I dyed it. I was super disappointed, this was the first time I have dyed my hair in 18 months. I dont recommend this product at all.
Love it!! I’m a first time haircolourer. I always found it a bit daunting to have to colour my hair on my own but this seemed real easy.
As I was warned by mom, not to go too dark so I tried the 50 pure brown colour whilst my natural hair colour is a deep dark cool brown (sometimes looks almost black). On the box this one looked about 1 to 2 shades lighter than my natural colour, I figured I would be safe with that. Hoped that it would take though the retailer was a bit hesitant about it since I took a lighter colour.
Loved the way it applied. Yes it doesn’t foam as much as in the pictures but it is fairly easy to massage in and get down to your scalp. It doesn’t drip and doesn’t make a mess, that what I like.
Unexpectedly the colour turned out a warm reddish brown. I kinda like it but I was surprised. Wil try the chocolate brown next time I think, but I will use this product again.
I’ve got thick medium length hair and had to use all of it. Also used all of the balm right away. But it looks good feels great and was easy to use. Love it.
OOps wrong number. I used number 40, not 50!!!!!!
LAUREN,the work looked beautiful
i used the black sublime last night on my black hair. im a natural blonde and have been dying my hair dark blue black for years.. well i thought maybe this would be a less messy way… color did not color all over and i think they dont know what BLACK means… i dont not mean seriously i want my money back… i was really upset. i pay 3.99 for my hair dye usually this cost 9.99!!! and really??? you cant afford better gloves loreal?? considering you expect people to “massage it” into are heads!!! gimme a break!! DONT BUY this stuff!!
so I’ve been hesitant about dying my hair. it had been about 6 years since I last dyed it and it was at a salon so I have no experience coloring my hair at home. so when I saw this sublime mousse I got excited about it especially that I got coupon of 3$ off from kroger plus card.
my natural hair color is light black with brown streaks so I didn’t want a dramatic change so I got the 56 Spicy Auburn brown. after reading all the bad reviews I wanted to make a test first so I dyed a small lock of hair from my hair extension (taken from my original hair) and it didn’t look bad at all. so eventually I had the courage to dye my whole hair. I have pretty thick and somehow long hair but one bottle was enough. it was super easy to use and no mess at all. and I’m so amazed with the color results it’s almost like the color on the box! it became darker black with shiny auburn streaks…I really like it but I’m not sure if I would recommend it since it looks differently on different ladies..oh and btw I don’t have gray hair so I can’t really tell if it’s true as they said “perfect gray coverage”
overall I liked it and I would give it 4 stars
I just used the L’Oreal Sublime Mousse.
Pros: I did like that the foam was very easy to use and I didn’t have to part and section off my hair like with other hair color products. This made the process much quicker. I will probably try this again but knowing that the results are darker than those shown on the box, I will choose a lighter color next time.
Cons: Tried #70 and my hair looks more like the #50. It is much darker than on the box even though my hair was lighter than the photo before I colored. Also, the results are more gold than I like. There was also the smell which was not pleasant to me. Although very faint, I thought it had an odor like that of a soured dish rag. I’m sure after a shampooing or two that will change.
THE MOST HORRIBLE HAIR DYE EXPERIENCE I’VE EVER ENCOUNTERED!
Tried the L’oreal sublime mousse #53 today….
I followed all the instructions exactly. When I went to rinse it out it felt horrible. Then I used the ENTIRE tube of conditioner and it didnt even help. My hair felt, (feels) like tree bark.
It was so unbelievable and shocking I screamed and started to cry in the shower. I used a BUNCH of other conditioner, and still tree bark. My hair has never felt like that in my life.
I got out and dragged a brush thru it… I little while later I got back in the shower again and washed it 4 times and left some good conditioner on it for an hour. I went and rinsed it again and it helped some, but still barky.
It ruined my hair… I think there needs to be a class-action lawsuit.
Oh, after all that, I still see some silvery hairs. It didnt even cover all the grey. (and i didnt have much to begin with)
I guess the fact that step (or item) #4 has a #3 on it should have been a red flag!
I am so glad I read these reviews.
I had the “Sublime” Mousse all laid out to dye my hair this morning and felt I should look at the web first to see what was being said about this product. I will put everything away and see if I can get my money back. I do not want my beloved hair to turn to straw. And I do not want to use inferior conditioner. I was also concerned (with the Mousse) that you could not color the roots first — then proceed with the remaining hair. I would have had to cut three inches of my hair off. Whew !
I have a box of my usual Loreal Preference in my drawer which I will use instead. #4 Dark Brown to cover my gray roots. Tried and true.
I usually buy Perfect 10 for my hair color, but I saw this in the store and thought I would try it out. I used the Perfect Dark Blonde shade just this morning. I want to first say that the dye alone is high maintenance! You have to be careful when mixing it, you have to keep massaging it so it won’t drip, and you have to leave it on for 30 minutes!! I’m used to Perfect 10 where you just have to leave it on for 10 minutes. The worst part of it all was that it didn’t even come out with a dark blonde color. I am naturally a dark blonde. This turned my hair a very dull, disgusting light brown. There is no shine, highlights, or anything. What a waste of money! Do NOT buy this dye!
It is slightly unfortunate that I didn’t see this thread before I had gone and bought the Sublime Mousse #70. Read a few reviews on Boots, and was happy enough, but what is said here is frightening. But here’s the deal – I’m going to give it a shot regardless, because dark brown instead of blonde hair has got to be better than the utter MESS XXL Live Platinum Blonde made of my hair. First off, the price. €8.99 – a bit steeper than what I would normally pay. But the box looks sassy, makes it look worth the money. What’s inside?
1. Excellent-fitting, good-quality gloves inside a little egg-tub.
2. A bottle of deliciously fruit-smelling, silky-white conditioner.
3. A bottle of developer and colourant.
4. A professional-looking pump.
All-in-all, the contents looks well worth the money, and I find them encouraging. Time for the application…
1. Putting this stuff on was so easy – I honestly smiled the entire time. My hair (from the previous botch-up) was half luminous orange/half yellow, so it was unbelievably easy to see what I had covered. The mousse from the bottle was a beige colour, and had the consistancy of fake tan mousse. There is no bad smell at all.
Within 10 minutes my hair had turned to what appears to be an ashy blonde with brownish streaks (probably the orange, which I’d expect no home dye could fix). If this turns out to be the final result, I will personally find a L’Oreal representative and shake their hands.
At the 25 minute mark, I went to the bathroom (where the lighting is strong) and noticed a few patches in the middle section of my hair that I had missed. I simply scrunched the ends of my hair into these sections and got them covered. As a result, I recommend using this dye in a very well-lit area. My hair rinsed out clear very quick, and I took on board what people said about it coming out very dark – so I used a liberal amount of shampoo and gave it a good wash before using the conditioner. I used the entire bottle of conditioner, since my hair was in ruins before I even used this dye. Sublime. That really is the only word I can think of. And now, for the dried and styled result…
Blow-dried and straightened, this is easily the sexiest colour my hair has ever been. All traces of the orange and yellow are gone, and my scrunching completely abolished the patches I missed. My hair looks absolutely gorgeous, EXACTLY the same shade as the model on the box, and it feels reasonably nice (that being down to the bleaching from XXL I’m sure).
Application – 9/10
Visual – 10/10
Texture – 9/10
I would, no I WILL, recommend this to every single person I know to be planning on colouring their hair. Sublime indeed.
The product was very easy to use and it didn’t dye my skin. I got the color pure light brown to dye my medium brown hair slightly lighter. Turns out I actually dyed it darker! I knew foam colors tend to go a little darker, but I guess I didn’t quite realize how much. The end color is really pretty, it just isn’t what I was going for. I would not get this product again, just because you never know what color you’ll end up with!
Today I used the sublime foam. I liked the easy application, gloves and odor. Waiting 30 minutes is the longest of any other hair product I’ve used. I have sprinkles of grey in my hair, with a circle of grey at the side of my forehead.
After washing, rinsing and drying, I have to give this a big fat zero. I can clearly see the line of new growth, it is a different color from the older hair, like I didn’t color at all. The grey hair is still grey. The older hair is orangey. The conditioner is a lower quality than their normal product, my hair still feels stiff, and like other reviewers, I used more trying to get a slick feeling before I rinsed.
I will tell my friends not to buy this product, and if there was a way to get my money back, I would.
I’m surprised at the bad reviews, so I am posting this here and on other review sites. I have used this product 2 times, tonight being the second time. I have tried MANY different products and this is the ONLY one that has not destroyed my naturally wavy/tends to be on the dry side hair. I’m a dark ashy/mousy blond naturally and used shade 70 pure dark blond and am very very happy. Doesn’t smell awful, doesn’t drip all over, doesn’t dye my skin, looks au natural, very easy to apply, very easy to rinse out, left my hair shiny and healthy, and doesn’t look fake. I like this hair product. I’m not sure why so many bad reviews….I think maybe it depends on your hair type and how extreme you are trying to go, but I give this one 2 thumbs up.
This product may have some very good qualities, and the ease of application if great. BUT IT DOESN’T EVEN TOUCH THE GRAY! I’ve tried two different shades and I’m done.
Extremely disappointed. I usually love L’Oreal products but not this one. This stuff was basically to cover gray I have in the front of my hair, I was happy with my natural color so I bought the closest to my shade which was light brown. It made my hair like straw for starters, turned it a hideous dark, deep reddish brown, nothing like the package or any natural hair color I have ever seen. Who cares about easy when you feel like a circus clown!
I love L’Oreal products and use one of their other hair dyes on a regular basis but had a coupon for the new Sublime Mousse so I thought I would try it out. I have black hair and wanted to go lighter (Dark Brown) and the box said it could handle the change. WRONG – not only did it not cover my roots, the product didn’t change my hair color AND it made my hair dry. I usually love L’Oreal products but I will not use this mousse product again.
My hair was a light beigey blond and I purchased the dark blond color from the Loreal Sublime Mouse collection. It turned my hair brown, no where near dark blond! Im hoping it fades, but I’m disappointed. Plus, the foam didnt stay foamy even after scrubbing it a little more like instructed, the foam still just disappeared. Would not recommend it, especially not if you want the same color that is on the box because you might not get it!
Gees, I don’t know if I should get it or not… mixed reviews but looks like more bad than good ;( I had onmy list to buy tom but maybe I won’t
Can’t help but have a great chuckle. Just saw the loreal mousse commercial that had me almost sold,
But read these reviews and there’s no way I’d try it! God I love the internet!
I purchased this product in pure black. I believe number 20. The product was easy to apply. I had a few blonde patches in my hair from a bad experience, that when I fixed it I missed a few spots. The color covered the blonde spots. It looked very natural. Having very healthy hair to begin with, my hair is still healthy soft and smooth. Overall, so far I like this product.
i just used the sublime mousse #70 pure dark blonde..my natural hair color. it was very easy to use, not messy at all. i do agree that it was kinda difficult to tell where the mousse was and was not.
my hair was like a platinum blonde, very highlighted, overly processed and very damaged…
result…….. very dark brown with red and orange highlights!!!!!
ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like an auburn chestnut…not the best color for me!!!!!!!
i will say it DID leave my hair looking much healthier. i’ve actually received alot of compliments on it and it is a very nice color.. just not on me.
i called loreal to see if there was anything i could do and they were very helpful.. she explained why my hair came out so dark, which made sense..but said she wasn’t sure why it would possibly be reddish.. me either!! anyways she told me it will fade out with the use of a cheap shampoo and once my highlights came back through they are going to give me a filler ( toner ) to correct the tones in my hair !!!!!!!!!!
plus they are sending me coupons for the money i spent on the hair color.. only because i didn’t have any of the packaging anymore.
overall, very displeased with the color result..
very happy with l’oreal!!
L’oreal you ROCK!!!!
I just used “pure dark blonde”, and my hair has come out dark burgundy. Not happy. Urghh.
I just tried Sublime Mousse…Pure light brown…Left it on half the time it stated…cause it started to look too dark..When I rinsed it out…my hair was black !!!!….and you can still see the gray…AWFUL …AWFUL…PRODUCT…!!!
41 Iced Dark Brown
Very easy to apply is the only positive. If you have
Grey roots beware. My hair came out dark brown as
the box boasted, however my solid grey roots were
bright red! Now I have to recolor my poor dry curly locks.
Very dissapointed!
I’ve tried this product twice now and both times disappointed.
Very easy to apply their applicatior if way better than the other similar product on the market, but the grey coverage is very poor. I thought I may have applied it badly the first time but my hair is a lot shorter this time and I liberrally aplied the foam massaged it in as they say left it on the time they say and yet 2 days after this I can still clearly see my grey hairs!!!! It also seems to really dry out the hair and the conditioner that comes with it is very very fragrant and I must say I really don’t like the smell.
Would NOT buy this again and WON’T recommend
Okay. I really liked the product. People who don’t like it, probably picked the wrong haircolor. Its not the products fault, its your fault. I don’t have gray hair since i am young but i just wanted a change in my color. My hair is a pretty dark reddish brown and really shiny. I wanted to go darker so i got number 30. it made my hair almost black, but i am happy with that. It still keeps your natural highlights (in the sun or bright light), which mine are a reddish color. However, i read the color washes out kind of fast? I am not so sure of that since i only dyed my hair for the first time about a week ago. It still looks as dark as it did. Overall, i like it. If you have dark hair and want to go really light, you probably have to gradually get there without the color looking bad so once again, its not the product’s fault, its your fault
Loreal Sublime Mousse is the worst product on the market. This product does not cover grays and leaves your hair in terrible condition including severe dryness, breakage and worrysome hair loss. Loreal will refund your money and tell you if you have gray hair, not to use the Sublime Mousse product.
MMMM so i was gonna get light brown (i have brown hair with natural highlight never dyed it before) because i wanted to go a lil lighter, but since everyone is posting that it comes out darker,, ill get the dark blonde one.. and ill try a strand first, thanks ladies.
I purchased the Golden Medium Blond #83 and I got DARK BROWN AUBURN. I am so disappointed. To top it off my grays are shining through like little tinsel! I am afraid to try and color again, I am going to have to wait a few days because my hair is so dry and dull.
I actually called and complained to L’Oreal, something I have never done. This is also my first time to comment online about a product. I generally trust L’Oreal, unfortunately, this one falls way short! I feel this product was not properly tested for quality. I would not recommend this hair color to anyone based on personal experience. I wish I had looked online before trying this one!
i bought the iced dk brown color (dark natural brown). it is a permanant version of the loreal gloss in theiced shade.
It covers my greys, is a lovely neutral shade of brown, chocolate, shiny, ..very easy to use, no drip. has been on 5 weeks and no fading!
I have a new stylist and was talking to her about highlights (my idea) her response: why would you want to do that? your hair is a gorgeous shade of chocolate brown..she asked me what i used. couldn’t beleive i did it myself..said if word got out she’d lose her coloring business..
i have wavy hair, has been color treated for many years. Recently thought at suggestion of new stylist, I have been using sulfate free shampoos and only washing every 3 days ..sounds gross but my hair looks great and my color lasts and lasts…hair is healthy too.
What a horrible product! I liked the ease of application, but that is where it ends. It dripped constantly. Nothing like having to keep the gloves on the entire time you color so you can agitate the “mousse”!
The worst is the actual color. I used #62 and it’s as dark as #30! I know it’ll fade as all hair color does but I just can’t believe how dark and lifeless my color is—not even close to what is on the model on the box. I have healthy hair–not dry or damaged. I do have some grays and it covered them well, but like most gray hair the color is resisent so I expect they’ll really be standing out in my dark locks.
My hair texture is okay but I totally concur with the comments about the conditioner. My hair was super soft after coloring which was a surprise, but once I used the condidtioner, it got coarser-—not soft and silky like hair should be after using a conditioner. Not sure why that is. Also, I agree that the color of the conditioner is off putting—not the pure white demoed in their video but quite yellow.
This is a DO NOT BUY. I’ll stick to Perfect 10. It’s quick and true to the color on the box.
I tried the medium golden blonde because ther was no light golden blonde. Now I have light brown hair! I do not like this color!!
I bought 2 bottles of #60 BEFORE I read the reviews on here. I have hair a few inches hanging below my shoulders so I knew I would need 2 boxes as I always do. I actually had about 1/3 of one bottle left over. I was surprised at that because usually it takes all of 2 bottles for other kinds that are not foam. ANYHOW…… I was about 15 minutes into it being on my hair and then read these reviews and immediately went and washed it out because of all the negatives on here. I actually wish I would have left it on the full 30 min. because my grays did not disappear! The color was pretty much right on though. (i went from a darker brown to this #60). The foam covered my hair excellently. I did notice when I was rinsing it out it was difficult to rinse, kept tangling up on me more so than other kinds I have used. The conditioner I thought was ok, but doesnt compare to my RUSK conditioner. I am overall pretty satisfied, and next time I will leave on the full 30+ minutes and see if it wipes the grays out.
DO NOT USE!
Like the others said, my hair is now dry, and coppery orange!
I used #53, and I definitely picked the right colour for my base hair type…..
This product is rubbish!
itried sublime mouse heair coler pure dark brown and i loved it it came outjust the way i wanted it to
well i tried perfect 10 dark brown and the crap made my heir black when i used the dark brown sublime mouse it cam out just the way i wanted
I used sublime mousse #60. I already had light brown hair, close to the color on the model, however my hair ended up a MUCH DARKER shade of brown– medium dark brown. Ordinarily that would be fine, but i didn’t want to go too dark right before summer.
Really disappointed with the color result, but it was an easy product to apply and my hair is in reasonable condition. I wish I had read the reviews of everyone else’s color results BEFORE I dyed my hair.
This stuff is amazing !!! So easy to apply, no mess AT ALL. Covered my grey, my hair looks awesome even after two weeks… Thanks Loreal
i stripped my hair color last night due to color build up & it was extremely dark, I ended it off with orange hair…bright orange, so I bought the mouse pure light brown color today, I used it exactly as it instructed & it did NOTHING. No areas on my hair have been died at all.
Ok, I read all the comments about this product when I already bought
It. I figured I’d give it a go anyways seeing so I’m blonde and I got the #83 Golden Blonde…. I was very wrong
1. Put the product on, very easy to use and apply, but the ‘foam’ did not last 2 sec on my hair before drying up on me, and I have pretty fine hair. I’m also 23 so no greys at third stage.
2. The box says to leave it on for 30min, after 5 min of applying the mousse I could see it changing colour, I thought wow! But when I looked carefully it was BROWN!!!!!!! On through box the models hair is blonde!! I quickly washed it out after being not even 10min my hair.
3. I washer it out with hydrating shampoo and conditioned with my own product. I was not about to use their conditioner after all of that.
4. After I dried my hair the colour was mixed between a brown and red. As you imagine my surprise, as I was bright blonde beforehand :’( my hair was very straw like and overall a bad experience. I love L’Oréals products, and will still buy from them, but definitely not this hair dye ever again.
Some peoples hair might come out great and others not… unfortunately I’m in the not column.
I used the sublime mousse pure dark brown number 40. before i tried this product, i looked at other reviews and saw that most of it had very negative comments. I dyed my hair 2 days ago. To be honest, the mousse dye isn’t that bad. i heard that a lot of people were saying it made their hair dry. This is the first time i’ved dyed my hair. i straighten my hair a lot.so my hair is already damaged but my hair before i dyed it was never like straw. After using the dye, my hair still isn’t like straw. I think it depends on the type of hair you have. Also, if your a person who dyes their hair a lot then i’m guessing you hair WILL be like straw. the only downfall is, the colour. the colour hasn’t come out like it had on the box. it comes out darker than it should. also in the light it looks like the number 56 dye. It gives it a maroony brown colour. But i guess after a few washes it might go a bit lighter. I would say this product is good for beginners as its super easy.
Not happy with this product. It’s been a week and the gray is already back. On top of that, I went to the salon to get highlights and they told me (after a strand test) that the foam is really bad for your hair and binds differently than other drugstore product. And they can’t get the color to lift out, so I was denied service for highlights. So I’m now stuck looking really crappy. I was told to use clarifying shampoo and come back in a month. My summer is ruined.
Nightmare. First hair coloring product to give me an allergic reaction. Felt my face go numb after the first 5 min. After all that…my hair feels like straw. (Only had dye in for short time before desperately trying to wash out!). Wow, scariest experience ever with a hair dye. Obviously will never use this again!
Okay. So I read all the REALLY mixed reviews on here and I decided I had to try this product. I know that sounds really silly, but I feel like I am a good candidate for an unbiased opinion!
To begin with, I have very healthy, thick, shiny hair naturally. When I was in my teens, I used to dye my hair pretty frequently because I loved to change up my appearance. Since college, I’ve toned that down quite a bit, because I love the look and feel of my hair naturally too. And so now I usually dye my hair once every six or seven months.
Alright, here goes: I chose Golden Medium Brown
I opened the box and pulled out a large bottle of foaming developer, a small bottle of color, a foam pump head, a long, skinny bottle of conditioner, and instructions.
The conditioner is a little yellow, but feels creamy and smells nice.
The color itself before being poured into the developer is sort of honey-colored, but with more red tint.
The foam coming out of the bottle was a reddish-brown, but quickly turned dark once it hit the air.
The only thing I was under-impressed about with the contents are the gloves. They are kind of crappy, and stuck inside the instructions.
The Process:
Mixing is easy. Application is even easier. I have no complaints about the ease of this product.
I will say, with regular product, I usually require two packages, even with short hair because my hair is so thick. With this one, I literally saturated my hair with foam and still had plenty left over. I was very pleased about this.
20 minute check-in:
My hair looks very red right now. And I am tempted to wash it out and rock a Christina Hendricks look. But I really want to give this product a fair chance, so I am going to leave it in for the full amount of time.
In the shower:
The dye came out like it was NOTHING. I was almost worried that it hadn’t colored my hair!
Addressing the dry-ness…well. I have to admit. After reading all these comments, I was hyper-sensitive to the issue of dryness. And after washing out the dye, my hair did feel dry. So I used a little extra conditioner and left it on for 2 minutes before mixing it with some warm water and making sure I saturated every single strand. I am pleased to tell you that this method, or the conditioner works, because my hair no longer feels dry.
My hair wet is very, very dark and reddish at the roots. I am not displeased with the colors, and they aren’t starkly contrasted or anything. But my roots are a little more red than the rest of my hair. Fine by me, my hair is naturally a red-brown anyways.
Dryed, Styled, and Finished:
My hair is not dry and feels like it normally does. The color of my hair looks like it does on the package, only a little more red, which is understandable considering I had red in my hair to start. No patches were missed that I can see, so coverage is great!
I would like to add that it did not stain my forehead, ears, or neck at all. It just wiped away. Awesome!
Overall and Sidenotes:
Overall this dye was great! This is the first time I’ve colored my hair completely by myself without the expert help of my mom or friends. I am glad it was so successful.
I do want to address the smell. It is not so bad when coloring, but when blow-drying, the chemicals smell like a soured dish rag. The conditioner does a little to help this, with it’s perfume-y scent. But be aware that when you are blow-drying, the scent is very pronounced, so I would tread carefully about where you go right after it’s been colored.
As for the color, when choosing a color be aware of all the nuances of color in your hair!! You may *think* it looks exactly like it does on the box, but you may have undertones of red or ash that become more pronounced when colored over. That is all I can offer to help you. For me, the color looks great! Maybe just a smidge darker than what is on the box, but that is very subtle. Otherwise it is just the red that makes it look so different.
On my roots, and places where my hair is thinner than others/less stacked it is more noticably red. So I think women with thinner hair with red undertones should not use ANYTHING with “Golden” in it. Look for “Cool” “Iced” or “Ash” to balance out the red in your hair unless you want it to be more auburn.
I would give this product and 8.5 out of 10.
I’d really like to see better gloves and a better conditioner. And of course, there is the smell. But honestly, this is better than any other dye I’ve ever used when it comes to ease of application. And the color looks great. As long as it holds up to the test of time, I would be more than willing to use this product exclusively.
(Although maybe next time I will try nice ‘n easy or John Frieda and write a review on that)
I just used this product tonight.
I used L’Oreal Feria for years, and it is a really wonderful dye. I no longer use it regularly because it’s pricey and it was a little harsh on my scalp. I would probably still use it if not for the cost, to be honest. The color is gorgeous and the conditioner is great, so I already have expectations in place for a L’Oreal product.
I’m young, so no gray, and I’ve been dyeing my naturally dark brown hair blue black for years. I read all the bad reviews, but went ahead using the product anyway–I figured that black would be hard to mess up, and even if it went wrong, my hair has taken a lot of hits over the years.
Application went well. I used a LOT of product, and I kept going even after my hair was saturated. I didn’t want the product drying prematurely. Then I massaged really well to make sure I got everything. So far so good.
One thing that was strange–why does the pump come with a cap? You’re not going to use it, since you can’t keep already-mixed hair dye. It seems like a waste of plastic–maybe they could save that money and provide better gloves?
Anyway. I did “massage” once during the waiting time. Not because my hair looked like it needed it or anything. Just because the instructions said so. The color wasn’t foamy anymore, but the it wasn’t dry, either–it had kind of just un-foamed and turned into a normal liquid. It did foam back up when I massaged it. Hair felt crunchy, but I couldn’t tell if it was from the color getting dry or from damage.
The dye was turning reddish-brown out of the bottle, and then a little bluish. I’m not sure what color it would turn if you put it on, say, light blond hair.
Time to rinse out. It seems like it took forever to rinse, but I did use a lot of product and I was also using the hose attachment on my kitchen sink.
While I was rinsing I did notice, like others, that my hair didn’t feel like tangled-up hay the way it normally does after coloring and before conditioning.
The conditioner smells lovely, very close to Bath and Body Works’s Pink Cherry Blossom scent. It didn’t seem to work as well as other box dye conditioners–even the Feria conditioner, which is a L’Oreal product too.
I kept the conditioner in for a while–maybe five minutes or something. When I rinsed, it didn’t feel damaged, but it didn’t feel silky, either.
After blow-drying, it was definitely black. Like I said before, black seems hard to mess up. So no problem with the actual color. But my hair looked really dull. It got shiny when I finished it with a flatiron, but still seemed kind of frizzy, and not as soft as it could be.
I’m placing the blame with the conditioner. Like I said, my hair actually felt really great right after rinsing out the color. And my hair also dried really quickly with a blowdryer, which is a sign that the dye helped rather than hurt–my hair is very porous from so much dyeing and normally takes forever to dry.
I guess I won’t really know what to make of the dye until after I wash and condition with my normal TRESemmé conditioner. I suspect it will be lovely and shiny. I don’t know what’s up with L’Oreal–they have also changed the Feria conditioner for the worse, and now this! Feria conditioner used to be amazing, I say bring it back and bundle it with this product, too.
My final verdict: Good black dye. Use more product than you think you need to and really work it into your hair. Substitute your own conditioner; maybe save theirs for a time when your hair doesn’t need the moisture quite as much, because it does smell nice.
I can’t really speak to the whole “color too dark” issue, seeing as I was going for black anyways. I’ve heard that other brands of foam color also come out darker; it makes sense, since foam is concentrated. Let’s see if the hair color companies find a way around it, because the application really is much easier than traditional box dyes. Luckily for me, I’m always after the blackest black possible.
my hair is a darker shade of blonde and i bought the l’oreal pure light blonde (90). i have read mixed reviews about this product and im not sure what to do.i think because i chose such a light color that it should lighten it up a little mabey not wats on the box but i would be happy with just one shade lighter. im going to try this and i will be back to give my opinion on how it turned out:)
I tried the Sublime Mousse in the Golden Medium Blonde twice and can’t say I like it. True, it is less messy than other products but I didn’t find the coverage to be as good and it was way too dark. It should be labeled Golden Dark Blonde. A little peroxide added to my shampoo for three washings helped a little but I will not buy this again. My hair is way too dull, even using the conditioner provided for 5 washings. It tangles easily. I will go back to my L’Oreal Excellence.
I just tried the new Sublime and while the application was really easy I am disappointed in the color. I used the ultra light brown and my hair turned out medium-dark brown. I’m going to do a search and see what I can do to lighten it up without destroying my hair.
Reading all of these negative comments reinforces my decision to have my hair colored at a salon, even though it does cost $50 a pop!
I was going for a lighter color than I had and ended up darker. Not sure why so many on here plus myself was going for a color and ended up with something totally opposite. Um. My hair was a very light brown almost blonde and I was going to lighten it up a little and ended up medium brown.
Me again. Maybe they need to swicth their before and after pictures and then the color you get will be the right one.
My post would be the same as Lisa’s. My hair is ultra light brown with dark blonde in it, I used #70 Pure Dark Blonde and now I have medium brown hair.
I just tried this product, dark blonde, and I have black hair, it didn’t even work. Left it in for 45 mins, instead of 30 and it still didn’t make a difference. I don’t like this product, I’m better off going to the salon or using real dye for my hair, this product was terrible. I wouldn’t buy it.
I have dyed brown to blonde at home many time before. Right now my hair is dark to medium brown, so I bought the lighted sublime mouse- 90 blonde…and my hair is still dark brown. Nothing changed at all. I usually see at least a couple shade difference in my own or friends hair at this point, I have never used a hair dye that did nothing! Soooooo dissapointed, wasted so much of my time. Gotta go to the store tomorrow and buy and whole new dye and start again.
After reading the reviews, I felt like I should talk about my positive experience with this product. I have used several hair dyes in the past, and I usually tend to go for medium to darker browns when picking out my color. My hair is naturally medium brown, but turns a little brassy in the summertime. When I pick out dark brown shades, inevitably it turns out almost black. So I’ve learned my lesson to stay clear of anything “darkest brown”. And I have had experiences in the past where days later I realize I missed a patch in the back, so I’m left with a two-toned spotty look (sexy!). I wanted to give the mousse a try for the sake of covering all of my hair. I picked out the pure medium brown (50). The application process was a cinch. I’m used to the dye dripping down my forehead, neck, and onto my towel and this product didn’t do that at all. Once I rinsed it out and blew dry my hair I loved the color!! It was a rich medium to dark brown. My friend complimented me that my hair looked so healthy that night. I will be using this product again.
I have just used your Radiant Golden Blonde Sublime Mousse (83) on my light auburn hair as I wanted to lighten it. If anything it has made it slightly darker and browner and I am very disappointed. I wish I had never used it. I followed the instructions and left it the full 30 minutes so it’s nothing to do with my use of the product. I like the easy application of the mousse rather than the liquid but It just didn’t work and I would like to know what Loreal can do about it please.
Regards,
Linda
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE, REVOLTING, PRODUCT
I used medium brown the same as my natural hair color and it turned my hair black in parts, very, very dark brown in other parts, left my medium brown roots untouched as well as gray untouched. I had multicolored hair, not a pretty look. Also it left my hair dull and lifeless, with absolutely no shine, my hair was in great condition until I used this product. Because of the 4 different colors on my hair I could not dye it myself so I had to go to the salon and spend $150 to have it corrected. I am so angry, I cannot afford this amount however, I cannot go around looking as though I have the worst dye job in the world. As for the condescending people suggesting that the user chose the wrong color or used it incorrectly, well if you don’t work for L’Oreal then you are just plain ignorant. I suggest you get on the web and read all of the reviews of this product, the main thing is it colors hair way too dark, at least 4 shades darker. Glad it worked for you, but for the majority of users it was a complete disaster. I called L’Oreal and they sent me a check for $30, so now I am only $120 out of pocket. Do not use if you like your hair.
I wish had read the reviews before purchasing this product. I recently started coloring my own hair, and decided to try the L’Oreal Sublime Mousse Haircolor after seeing an ad in a beauty magazine. I wish I hadn’t. The product failed in every regard. Did not color my hair at all. I have very dark brown hair/almost black and a little gray coming in so I tried the Pure Black. Not only did it not color my hair/cover my gray, it left my hair looking dry and dull. Definitely disappointed with this product and wish I could get my money back. I will never try this product again nor will I ever recommend this product to anyone. EVER!!
So I bought this hair dye didn’t think to read any reviews…the application went great…the washout went great my hair didn’t feel dry or nasty and I absolutly loved the color.. However…. a week later i’m sitting here with about 3-4 inches of dark brown hair at my roots and a light brown to dark blonde hair for the remainder of my 5 inches.. Over all i think this product stinks i’m going to need to re-color my hair so i can fix this.. i’ve colored my hair a similiar color before and this seemed to just wash out of the bottom.. i will not use this product again..
Oh no ! I’m another victim, I used Dark Brown but I get Bluish Black. And It’s really very black that freak me out everytime I see the mirror. How can I correct it ? help.
I’ll start by saying that the Loreal Sublime Mousse Color I chose is very similar to my own hair color; no drastic changes were expected or desired. This color/dye was mainly used for gray hair root coverage & on that point, was most effective.
Found this product easy to use & perhaps the least messy of the dyes tried in previous years. This color does actually enhance my true hair color (much like when I was younger) but the problem appears after…perhaps, the second use?
Now my roots appear greasy & unwashed even immediately after washing? This result is quite noticable & completely unacceptable. My hair has always fallen in the normal range & never have I experienced greasy looking hair.
It is a shame because I find this hair color extremely compatible with mine & were it not for this strange effect, I would continue using this color. But since I cannot wash the greasy look out (& I’ve tried a variety of shampoos) then I cannot endorse this hair coloring product.
However, if Loreal can fine tune this product & make it better (without such a negative side effect) then I would probably use this product again & perhaps even recommend their Sublime Mousse…but not at present.
Hi! My natural hair is dark blonde, but it was too light at the ends so I decided to color it all dark blonde. Today I tried l’Oreal Subleme mousse 70 and it really IS SUBLEME! Exactly what I needed – my hair feels just the same as before, not dry, glossy, the color is exactly as on the package and pictures and looks really natural. A little bit too brown at the roots, maybe because the color was there longer than on the ends, but I think it will wash out.
AND untill now no alergy even for me, who’s always alergic to cosmetics.
This is the 2nd time when I color hair by myself and I found it very easy to use
I just got finished using this product. I have been using bleach on my hair during the summer so my hair was ultra blonde.
I think this product worked well for my hair because I had white hair (bleached) before so it didn’t have to readjust to any other colors of hair strand color.
I paid $8.00 for this product and have to say my hair looks good. But then again, anything was better then it was before.
Way too dark. I hated the results. It’s solid looking. Like shoe polish. I am embarassed to go out. My hair has shine but it’s brittle. My former product was discontinued so had to try something different.
Their website sucks. It should have an easy to find repair in the FAQs with regard to too dark results and corecting the damage. But of course they would not want to do that because it would be bad publicity.
DO NOT USE THIS SHITTY PRODUCT.
After purchasing the pure dark blonde No: 70 hair mousse i decided to check out any reviews on the web. After coming across the reviews on this website, I was a bit hesistant to try this colourant.
Firstly, I have medium thickness long hair just above the elbow, which has been blonde for some time now, years and years. My hair is in good condition as I dont use any additional products on my hair other than shampoo and conditioner and hair colorant. I dont even blow dry my hair just let it dry naturally.
I did a strand test with the colourant to decide how long to leave it on for. After 25 minutes, the hair was darker and very similar to the picture on the front of the box.
At home, I found that the mousse did not run and was enough to cover all of my long hair and get the foam working when massaging it in.
After 25 minutes (as indicated by my strand test) wary of the other comments on here, I washed off the hair dye and also gave my hair an additional shampoo. Once i washed this out, i used the conditioner in the box, I found it creamy and white however i did feel that some of my hair was still felt a little dry as i applied it. Once i left this on for 3 minutes, i washed it off and also applied my own conditioner and left that for 3 minutes.
My hair colour came out exactly as it was on the box and thanks to the additional conditioner i applied, came out feeling healthy and smooth. I must say that I think this product is for darkening lighter hair rather than lightening dark hair as if you wish to lighten dark hair you need a pre-lightener first before you dye it.
Good product, easy to use, did what it say on the box.
Watching the commercials for the Sublime Mousse color, I wanted to know the correct pronunciation of the word SUBLIME. I was taught in school that it’s sub-leem or su-bleem. Please state what is the correct way and I believe the commercial is wrong.
I looked up the correct pronunciation. It is not how they pronounce it in the commercials. It is sub-lime, as in rhymes with lime and divine. suh-blahym for those who know phonetics (of which I am not one) no leem in there.

I ve just tried Sublime mousse 50, pure brown and it turned out fantastic! I usually dye my hair with Loreal Casting brown and red shades and it makes my hair heavy and even dries it, but sublime makes it so light, smooth and shiny. I wanted to darken my light brown hair and it turned out really great, nice shiny chocolate colour. I was a little bit scared becouse i ve read all these negative comments but wanted to try it anyway becouse i was convinced that turnout depends of the quality of your hair. So i really recommend it. to dye in blonde colours maybe is a little bit risky becouse every colour turns out darker, so maybe blonds should try something else, but brinnetes can be very satisfied with sublime mousse i think. I will buy it again for sure.
i JUST got done doing my hair, i used the color spicy auburn brown.
My hair was light to medium brown, with bleached blonde under my bangs to start off with.
i think they should re name this color “rasberry trouffel” haha cause it looks kinda chocolatey brown with red tint. the blonde of course dyed a bit brighter than the brown in my hair but it blended nicely.
idk what everyones beef is with this product but my hair feels soft, not dry at all…at least not any dryer than normal after i dye my hair.
after reading these reviews i was hesitant at first but now i am so glad i decided to go on ahead and use it!! beautiful!!!
Keep in mind that hair coloring is like chemistry, you need to consider what your hair color is before coloring, what type of coloring you are using, the contition of your hair, etc. and not just the color on the box. Since L’Oreal Sublime Mousse is a non-ammonia color, it will not lighten as much as Preference or Excellence or Perfect 10, etc. However, it is supposed to be more healthy for your hair like Healthy Look or some of the demi-permanent colors like Natural Instincts only is considered a permanent color. Even for ammonia based colors, they recommend for home coloring never to try to go more than two shades lighter or darker than your natural color. The ammonia based colors work more by taking some of the color out of your hair and then depositing color while the non-ammonia colors just deposit color without stripping your color out first I have been told.
That being said, I have used L’Oreal Sublime Mousse with mixed results. I used it in the past when my hair was more dark blond as my natural hair color is dark blond to light brown. I used #70 dark blond. This hair color was the easiest hair color I have ever used, covered very well when massaged in completely, and did not drip at all. I did not have any missed spots like when I tried Perfect 10 with the comb applicator thing. When I washed it out, it did not feel like a ball of dried up straw as some other colors have in the past. Instead, it washed out easily and felt soft. I usually leave the conditioner in at least five minutes instead of two like it says afterward for extra conditioning. Also, since it’s non-ammonia based, after a few washings it gave a more natural looking result with highlights rather than monotone. This was a very nice color and was close to what my natural color is now only prettier. It also did not stink badly like some other colors have and did not make my head itch.
However, in between times for a change, I decided to go back to a lighter blond I have used in the past. Therefore, I used Preference Natural Blond as this is an ammonia based color to lighten my locks and is two shades lighter. This gave me the very nice pretty natural blond color I used to have when I was younger and the color did not fade, however after a while my hair seemed very dry compared to when I used Sublime Mousse.
Due to the drier condition of my hair, I decided to try Sublime Mousse again. I wanted to stay a lighter blond, so I debated between the lightest blond 90 and the golden blond 83. Since I have warm skin tone and have used golden blond in Excellence to Go with okay results, I tried the medium golden blond 83. I thought since it was already dyed a lighter blond, it would be okay. This proved to be very much the wrong choice. The color again went on very easy, and my hair came out very nice and soft. However, the color was nothing like golden blond, but was more of a pumpkin orange though some might call it more of a very dark golden blond. Yikes! Since I personally am not a fan of red or orange hair on me at least, I hated it. I called the number on the instructions and spoke to L’Oreal. The person I spoke with said that anyone who has naturally darker than natural blond hair should not use anything with a warm tone or golden base as it will pull red or orange tones in their hair. I asked what to do to get rid of the orange, and she said I would need to wait 48 hrs. and then use a dark blond to light brown to counteract the orange tone (blue is opposite of orange on the color wheel and brown tones are blue based). I decided to try the dark blond since the Sublime Mousse colors tend to run dark. My hair came out a pretty shade though quite dark. She said since I had just previously colored it would be darker than usual as I’d be depositing more color over a color. Also if you are coloring over a light shade with a dark shade it will tend to soak up the color more, and any highlighted hair will really soak up the color. My hair is now more of a light to medium brown with slightly red highlights. I wonder if I had gone with the light brown if I would still have the reddish tinge. However, it is quite dark, but I have not washed it yet. When I used it before, it seemed too dark for a few days, but after a few washings it looked just like the box. I usually use a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner to keep the color longer, but if you want some color to wash out you could use a regular sulfate shampoo. Anyway, it is much better than the orange color it was.
Anyway, I am happy with the soft condition of my hair, but the color is quite dark though I expect it to lighten some. I did notice in the past that any non-ammonia based colors I have tried do not seem to hold color quite as long in the gray hairs. I will see how this one does as I have some gray around the temples. The non-ammonia colors are much less damaging to the hair though so that is the trade-off.
I am surprised that some people said they thought this dried out their hair as mine was much softer. Maybe they were trying to go several shades lighter, as anytime I have tried doing that with any color it dried my hair out. If you listen to Christophe Robin on the L’Oreal website he advises you to stay within two shades of your natural color for the best result, and sometimes with the non-ammonia based colors it is best to stay within one shade of your natural color. If going more than that, one would need to go in stages, for instance dark 7 blonde to medium 8 blonde, then to lighter 9 blond. Or I know sometimes people also leave the color on longer than it says which dries out your hair. It is always best to first do an allergy test and then do a strand test to see how long to leave the color on. I did not do this as I wanted to make sure to get rid of the orange so I left it on the full 30 min. like the lady I spoke with suggested.
That being said, I think this color might be better for staying close to your own color or going darker rather than going lighter. Christophe Robin also says if you hesitate between two shades using any color, to go with the lighter shade as most colors tend to run darker. I have found that with any color I have tried as what I would consider dark blonde is usually called medium blonde and dark blonde looks more light brown. So I usually choose one shade lighter than I think I want and it usually is about right. Again, keep in mind the color of your natural hair plus the color your hair is colored to as well as the condition and processing of your hair presently before coloring as this will all affect the result. You can input your information on the L’Orealparisusa.com website for advice from Christophe Robin on finding the right shade and choice of color product.
Anyway, hope some of this may have helped. Overall, I think I would use this again, but definitely not in the golden blonde 83 shade! I wonder if I had tried the other 90? blond it would have worked or not since I had already lightened my hair with Preference? Anyway I personally am better off sticking to the natural tones instead of the warmer shades. Also, note my Mom tried using a ash shade of Revlon which gave her gray hair a greenish tinge, so avoid using ash shades over gray hair as ash shades are green-based.
At 50, my hair is getting dull — not gray (yet!). Wanted to perk up my hair — I’m a light brunette/dark blonde. Since my salon highlights have faded, and money is tight, thought I’d give this a try. Results? Easy to use, smells great and my hair’s soft. Color? Too dark!!!!! I don’t like it. L’Oreal, reshoot the before and after box photos. The model has blonde highlights (I have none anymore) and my hair took on some red. I have a “dyed hair out of a box look.” If the photo was accurate, I’d be satisfied. If you want any blonde, do not buy LIGHT CHESTNUT BROWN 62. It’s very dark. If I do this again (which I doubt) I will choose a much lighter color. Best advice: Save your money for the salon if you want highlights or a particular color. I learned my lesson. Only a pro can help you look like the model on the box. Do you really think they color their own hair????? Good luck!
I used Loreal sublime mouse color twice in summer 5 weeks apart. Both times medium brown. The color was complementing my own natural color and it covered gray hair which I don’t have too much. The second time I used it, however, my scalp started itching badly and it got red and dry every day after I died it. My hair started falling out from the ruth which is not common for me ever. I watched about 20 hairs regularly fall out every time I washed it and when it was dried. i have never experienced my hair falling out even though I have colored it since 20 years ago. My hair is long and brown and It scared me to see it everywhere in the house falling out. The top of my scalp has now obviously less hair and it parts randomly. It became dry and was tangling behind my neck. My hair is still falling out but little less since I stopped using this product. I would not ever use this product again. I waited for a while and went back to my hair color brand I used before. My hair is still dry and it is now hard to comb it and I use a lot of hair conditioner even though my hair is straight it tangles up easily. I do not recommend this product.
I just used the light chesnut brown from the sublime line… My hair was a light brown and I wanted to tone it instead of it being blotchy my hair turned out fricken black. I am not happy considering I just spent over $50 to remove black I wanted to go back to my natural color. So I’m very displeased with this product and I will be calling loreal and they will be paying for salon costs to fix this shit. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. this is the second time this product has done this to me I will be getting my money back
I loved L’Oreal Sublime Mousse so much…. at first. That color faded really fast the first time, and it felt dry, but I thought my hair looked great anyways, and used the product again (the ice brown). A couple weeks ago was my 3rd application.. the color does look great, however MY HAIR IS FALLING OUTTT!!!!
I noticed it when I first used the product. Lots of shedding, but I just thought I was stressed out. Until I started reading reviews. This horrible product has thinned my hair significantly. It was so healthy and soft before. Not it is dry and thin. I hate you Sublime Mousse. You suck
I used sublime 83 ( packaging said golden blonde) picture is of blonde hair in the colour guide on the back of box. Well let’s say I was blonde, it has turned out light brown/red/pink. it has covered some greys, and the condition of the hair is fine but this is not the colour they put on the packaging!
I tried to call the help line to see if I can recolour as it is the xmas and new year season and Im at home with red/pink/brown hair but of course they are closed till the 3rd January! I was really happy with the colour my hair was but was just wanting to colour the greys before new years party.
I will never use loreal again.
Well I like Loreal Preference very much but wanted to try the Mousse..the color is not bad I used 41 and since I have dark hair the color worked for me, but the feel of my hair is not the same. I dislike the conditioner very much and I like the way my hair feels with Loreal Preference so I’m going back to using that. It didn’t hurt anything for me to give the mousse a try but not very impressed with it.
Ok so here’s my experience with the sublime mousse… I bought #41 iced dark brown and after I bought it, I read reviews. Most of them were horrible. I decided to try it anyways, even though most of the reviews were bad. It was very easy to use. The smell was kind of strong, but not much different from other hair dye. It did not drip at all, and it covered my hair very easily. When I rinsed it, my hair did feel a little dry, but I have never found a dye that didn’t make it a little dry. I liked the conditioner, and the color also rinsed out very easily. I like the color. It made my hair have a slight red tint, and was a little darker than I thought, but overall I really liked this product. I don’t understand all of the negative reviews. To all Tue women who are complaining about it making their hair brittle, it sounds like most of you dye your hair frequently, and of course your hair is going to be dry. I haven’t colored my hair in a couple years, and I never flat iron, so my hair is very healthy. I also have medium/dark brown hair, so I can’t complain that it made my hair too dark. I like this product, and will use it again.
I tried it for the first time. It was easy, but my hair became like straw. The foam dried out after 10 mins.
It colored uneven. My hair so messy, I am embarrassed.
But, it was very easy. I will never use it again.
I just would like to comment after reading the reviews above. I had a bad experience with this hair dye. My head & face went numb and I called 911. I will never use this product again. I have dark brown hair, and I have always used Loreal do-it-yourself dyes. I have never had such a weird reaction in my life. Every box of dye is different. I have no idea why that happened to me, but lets face it, there’s some pretty toxic chemicals in ALL hair dyes that WORK. Ask or google that. Learn about the dye ingredients and see for yourself. If you don’t need to dye your hair really, don’t do it. It’s cancer causing. Check the facts. Or take your chances. Have you ever read the warnings on the back of the box? No one seems to care, but some people have really nasty reactions like hair falling out etc… GOOD LUCK!!!
Well I am surprised or even shocked with all the negative comments here. This is my second time of using this product and I love it..I am planning to buy more as they have it on sale at Target. I tried the #40 this time and it so perfect..I am 48 and have so much gray like 75% of my head…but this product is amazing..it covers every bit of my gray hair strand. I don’t experience any irritation or any hurt while applying it..I wish I tried it sooner…so easy to use…
Beyond upset. My hair was highlighted blonde. Used Sublime 83 and got a chestnut brown more like shade 62. Extremely upset – had to pay $173 to get my blonde highlight all redone! Worse part is I called the number on the back of the box and regardless of what options I selected on the automated system I got hung up. Horrible product and horrible customer service.
i want to know, does it have long lasting result or not?
I used this product a few months ago…dyed my dark brown curly hair a reddish hue…it sucked the life out my hair. It burned my sensitive scalp and I am still feeling dry and itchy months later…although it is getting better. I have home died my hair for many years and usually have good luck. I felt like it didnt make my hair prettier but less vibrant and just plain blah. My hair was extremley healthy before the dye job.I will be going to the salon next week for a cut and some highlights finally!, thank god cause Im feeling very unsexy with this do of mine.
[...] Review: L’Oreal Paris Debuts New Sublime Mousse Healthy Look … [...]
I have no idea why all these terrible reviews exist. After using Perfect 10 Medium Brown for a couple of years, I decided to try the Sublime Mousse Pure Dark Brown. I agree that L’Oreal could supply better gloves with this product, and standing around for 30 minutes (massaging occasionally) hoping it won’t drip was a bit tedious…. but the results were WONDERFUL. I have fairly short curly hair, and it’s far from the thick tresses I had as a youngster, so maybe that’s why it covered so well. I admit I missed some of the gray roots at the very front and temples, but it’s hard to get them without dyeing my forehead and sides…. lol. All in all, it was a breeze compared to parting and sectioning hair… and my hair is shiny and soft and I absolutely WILL use it again. My CVS is having a sale tomorrow — 2/$12.99 and I have a $2.00 coupon, so I’m really happy about that!
REVOLUTIONARY PRODUCT! I will ALWAYS use foam! I was afraid it would not cover because I am old school, but it did BETTER than gloppy dyes or cremes. LOVE this product. -Easy to apply (my hair is shoulder length) -Great coverage (I will leave it on my greys longer next time) -Washes out easy -No mess whatsoever -Color is great, and very true to box. I have medium brown hair and used Spicy Auburn Brown. Left it on for 25 minutes, like the package said. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only neg thing I can think of is that my hair felt a bit dry after I was done, but I am 44 yrs. old, so my hair is getting a bit brittle with age. Don’t be afraid to try it. I can’t understand all the neg reviews??????
Have been dying my hair off and on for years without any obvious allergic reaction besides a bit of a dry, flaky skalp at times.
Then the other day I used the new Loreal Sublime Mousse, ( Pure Dark Blonde), because I wanted to look nice for a special Birthday dinner.
Easy to apply but my hair came out a much darker colour than was on the box -more mid brown than dark blonde.
By the next day day large weeping blisters and scabs had come up all over the back of my neck and behind my ears, as well as down the right side of my inner arm. Looks like I have been burnt in a fire !
They are intensely itchy, swollen and and painful. I have also developed many small itchy crusty sores on my scalp and around my hairline. My eye-lids also swelled up.
Have applied antiseptic cream and a mild cortisone cream but these awful weeping sores aren’t going to go away anytime soon.
Ironically just saw an advertisement on TV for this LOreal hair product which has won best hair colourant for 2012!!
They seriously need to futrher test a lot of the chemicals in these hair dyes as they are obviously extremely harsh and harmful.
I love the less mess mousse formula and less noxious, more pleasant smell. However, after leaving it on for the time instructed, it barely gave me any new color. It covered my darker roots ok, but did not perform to my expectation as with other formulas. I have not tried mousse from any other brand yet.
It did not dry my hair…it left it soft and shiny. Just did terrible coverage. Should I leave it on longer?
Just used Sublime Mousse for the first time and I am horrified with how dark the result is. I used to use Natural Match but for some unknown reason, it was discontinued. This is a poor substitute. My hair feels dull and dry after using the entire tube of conditioner. Now I have to find out how to quickly return to my regular medium brown. Do not use this product. I should have followed my instinct and boycotted anything that was plugged by the vapid Jennifer Lopez.
