Traditionally, we see warm pastel colors during spring — and this year, the same rules apply… for your hair color! One of the biggest trends colorists have been seeing is rose gold hair color.
Joel Warren, co-owner of Warren-Tricomi and L’Oréal Professionnel Haircolor Ambassador has been noticing the trend more frequently, and says it’s a great way to warm your hair up for spring/summer without having to go completely blonde.
“While rose gold is popping up as one of the hottest trends in hair color, it’s a trend that has been building over the years,” says Warren. “We saw it last year at Peter Som’s SS12 show during New York Fashion Week and on celebrities such as Blake Lively, Scarlett Johansson and January Jones.”
Rose gold is the new strawberry blonde. It’s great to add dimension to light blondes or those with gold-based colors by adding a subtle red tone. Just like we saw deep ombre shades pop up a few years ago with heavy, dark roots and emphasized bleached ends, rose gold hair can be a blonde ombre with blonde roots and strawberry tips.
Now you can get ombre hair color highlighting at home. See it by clicking here –>>L’Oréal Feria Ombre kit.
It’s great for lighter blondes to add dimension and for darker hues — without having to go completely brunette. This trend would work best with those with lighter complexions.
Want to preserve your color? Joel Warren recommends L’Oréal Professionnel INOA Color Care, which contains argan oil and green tea extract. Argan oil maintains the natural lipids on the outer layer of the hair fiber for a smooth, shiny finish; green tea extract is a natural antioxidant that nourishes the hair to protect and maintain INOA color radiance and intensity.
So, do you think you’ll be rocking some rose gold hair this spring/summer? We asked Warren some additional questions regarding how to exactly take care of rose gold hair, if it is only available at salons and if different hair types can carry off the look:
How is this different from regular highlights?
It is a color trend. We will be using highlights, single-process and glazes in different ways to create this look depending on hair type and color.

Can this be done at home? Or at a salon only?
It is a salon trend, but it can be done at home.
Would it work with those with textured, curly hair?
Yes! It works on any texture.
For those with darker skin tones, what can they do to brighten their hair?
We can brighten the hair depending on hair type by either permanent hair color like L’Oréal Professionnel INOA, which leaves hair in great condition, or with a non-ammonia highlight (such as platinum) to create this color trend.
