Review, Before/After Photos: Epilady Legend 4th Generation Rechargable Epilator - Removes The Coarsest Leg Hair

UPDATE: Check out our review of the best new epilator here > Braun SkinSpa Epilation & Sonic Exfoliation System.

With summer here that means shedding those extra layers and revealing smooth, hairless skin (that’s the plan at least). I don’t know about you, ladies, but I am fed up with shaving! (See our expert leg-shaving tips –>> HERE!) Mind you, I have the trifecta of troublesome leg hair: dark, coarse hair and sensitive skin (I guess I’ll just have to thank my dark European roots for that one!). You can imagine the razor burn I deal with, especially on the upper/inner thighs — and the fact that my leg hair grows at all different angles! That’s why I was excited to finally try Epilady Legend 4th Generation ($69.95) 25th Anniversary edition rechargeable epilator with Nano Silver Antibacterial Technology.

Review, Before/After Photos: Epilady Legend 4th Generation Rechargable Epilator - Removes The Coarsest Leg Hair

This was the first time I had ever tried a hair remover other than an at-home wax, depilatory cream or shaver. The Epilady Legend comes with a 7-ft adapter/power cord, storage pouch, cleaning brush, and three caps; one cap is meant to be used for your first few applications called the Perfect Angle Guide (PAG), keeping your epilator at the perfect angle for extracting the hair right from the root. Once you get the hang of it, then you can put on the other cap, but the angled cap really is helpful.

After charging the epilator for 8 hours (as suggested for a 45-60 minute session) I got to work on my legs — but it can also be used on your underarms, arms and face. It is important to have dry, clean legs and to keep on pulling the skin taught! Now, this process is extremely tedious — you might have to plug the epilator back into the cord since it will take a while to get rid of all the hair depending on your hair type. This isn’t something you can do the day of an event that requires touchable legs, fast. You might even have to space out your sessions: upper legs one day, lower legs another.

Since the device is pulling the hair right from the root, some redness will occur, but will easily fade once cream is applied thirty minutes after; it took a day for the redness to pass (for me at least). There are two speeds to the epilator, and after holding the device straight up, with the PAG cap on, I made small, circular motions. You might feel compelled to start actually shaving in upward strokes, but keep in mind to not apply pressure as you graze your leg hairs. Now, is this process actually painful? Not really. You do feel those pinching tweezers — 32,000 tweezers per minute to be exact — working hard to remove your leg hair. It’s a small price to pay to actually have smooth legs without seeing any noticeable stubble within a few hours.

Because I love BeautyStat so much, and as your editor you loyal readers deserve nothing but the truth, I have provided a TMS (Too Much Stubble) before photo to share. BUT, the after photos will be so worth it, I swear! DISCLAIMER: STUBBLE AHEAD!!!

Review, Before/After Photos: Epilady Legend 4th Generation Rechargable Epilator - Removes The Coarsest Leg Hair

Yikes! Now THAT is the proper hair length to be epilating your leg hair (and in my case, that was only about 5 days of not shaving or anything *blushing*).

After Regular Shaving (Next Day!)

Review, Before/After Photos: Epilady Legend 4th Generation Rechargable Epilator - Removes The Coarsest Leg Hair

The after photos are really something else. That is a close-up of my leg from the ankle to mid-calf. You can see the holes where the hair follicle would be — no black stubble! Smooth as silk, baby! I also took an after photo of my other leg, which I decided to shave as I usually would to compare how fast my hair grows the next day. Already unsightly stubble emerges to mock me! Three days after epilating I could still see no stubble coming to the surface. Maybe a stray hair or two I didn’t catch, but really nothing to worry about. I’m so impressed by the results.

Epilady says that with continued use the hair becomes finer with results lasting up to 4-6 weeks. In my case, this epilator really does work. If you have finer, lighter hair, then you will probably have less time dedicated to really extracting all of those hairs. Overall, a great item to try this summer. All you have to lose is your leg hair. Available on the Epilady website at www.EpiladyUSA.com. Plus, check out our round-up of the best leg shaving tips–>> HERE!

The results look great! Thanks for doing this review. I want to buy one of these to use on my arms (arms elbow down to hand) but I would like to see the results first, can you do a separate review on your arm? am I asking too much, or are you brave enough? Thanks if you can help with this. Sheila.

    Hit liked & shared (:
I would love this, omg. My shaving woes would be getting cuts from the razor, missing spots, mess with shaving cream and having the hair grow out so quickly! I’d also love to use this for my armpits (lol) since it got dark from shaving

  • Sasha said:

This review is so helpful! I’ve been curious about epilators, but my pain tolerance is super low. I’m a big baby! Still, the prospect of having silky smooth legs for 4-6 weeks is so alluring. It’s good to know that you didn’t find the experience very painful, and your before/afters are phenomenal! I’d love to win one of these. Shaving bummers: quick regrowth, expensive razors & refills, time consuming. Waxing bummers: messy at home, expensive to do in-spa, painful.

  • maribel said:

Great review and the after pictures were great! Have never used an epilator before but would love to try it. I normally shave and that could be a pain. I don’t get the close shave and smoothness I want. This was a great review.

i have never used one but would like to try.. i have a problem with hair on my legs..

  • geri said:

What great results! I prefer epilators, and while some complain about the pain, if(as you advised)pull the skin taut and go in circles, it’s not so bad, and the 6 weeks of smooth legs makes it worth it! Aloe vera gel also helps with any redness.

  • Susan said:

I have so many hair woes. I had electrolysis for three years straight. The hair looks darker and courser than it originally did. Waxing works but it would just be easier to use epilady and remove the hair for a few weeks. This products looks like a blessing to me.

  • Evelyn O said:

I’ve done a number on my legs in the past with regular razors. I now use the same blade for a long time because the blade is duller. I don’t get as close of a shave, but at least I don’t cut myself anymore.

  • Annie Mai said:

I hate getting ingrown hairs. No matter how much I exfoliate, I always get ingrown hairs. It gets extremely irritating.

  • Diana Devlin said:

I definitely don’t love shaving my legs so I would love to win this so I can go more days in between having to shave. Thankfully, I’ve not done too much damage in using a razor, but I’ve had my fair share of nicks that hurt like the dickens!

  • brittany said:

    I would love one

  • britany cochran said:

i hate shaving and using a cheap razor, it never fails i cut myslef everytime, and it seemed like the hair would be back the next day.. i started waxing my legs but then it would sting for hours…

Would love to win this! Shaving is such a chore! Need something to make it easier!

  • Shay said:

I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, and at 27 have extremely dark and noticable facial hair. A product like thid would not only take away the hair and save me endlesd amounts of time and energy getting rid of it but it will help restore my self-esteem that has been damaged since I was diagnosed.

  • Lydia Harpe said:

I almost always cut myself…even though I’ve been doing it for seven years now!

  • Briana said:

I once used that hair removal system (forgot the name) that is basically honey that you spread all over your legs and then use these cotton strips to adhere to it and then you’re supposed to pull them off quickly. It worked HORRIBLY! I remember that info-mercial was on all the time and it was all the rage. What a waste of money! I sure hope to win this little beauty – would love to be able to cut down the number of times a week I need to shave my legs!

  • Virginia said:

I would love to try this product. I have tried everything and resigned to wearing pants all the time because I have extremely dry and sensitive skin. Everything I do rips my skin off whether it is shaving, waxing, or electric razor. Pleawse pick me.

  • Tammy Kahl said:

My shaving woes are itchy spots and bumps afterwards, occasional cuts, and generally just making time to do it. I would love to win this product!

  • Sherry Scearce said:

No more cuts and no bruises from waxing? Yes, I bruise easily. Sounds great! Thanks for the chance!

  • adrien beatty said:

  • Keirsten Robinson said:

I would love to try this… I despise shaving. I think my worst shaving experience was when I was shaving and my hand slipped while I was shaving over my ankle bone… sheared off some skin! It was extremely painful!!! I think I have a scar there now.

  • Tavy said:

The worst shaving woes for me, is missing spots-./ I was wearing really short shorts, and I missed a spot which was embarrassing, also I get a lot of cuts too, which sucks!

  • Luosi said:

I want this because I always get hair on my nose! It would be great to use this and get those suckers away! haha

  • Jasmin said:

So i’m a teenager and shaving is annoying for me. I was wondering if this would work on ur armpit hair? I saw a youtube review about this and the youtuber said she uses her epilator on her arm hair so they’ll appear less darker. I personally have really dark underarms (thanks to my indian background), so i was hoping this would help. I would love to win a free one:)

  • adrienne z said:

no matter what I do, I always have a stray hair (or two or three) leftover that gets long enough to pluck by hand! I need this!! my sons use my leg razors to shave! that’s what happens when you have Single MOM, two teen boys & no cash for extra necessities. My razor is at least 3 yrs old. NO KIDDING

  • SE said:

I am about to go visit family out of state and I suffer from PCOS. A tool like this would rescue me from the embarassment I face every morning. It would save HUNDREDS of dollars a year.

  • Rita Ruff said:

This looks like a great product. I think everyone would love this. Hope I win this epilady! I have used other things, but my hair keeps coming back. Good luck everyone!

  • Sandra Wright said:

I would love to try this product, I shave and then the next day it seems like my hair has grown back so quickly!

  • jennifer farr said:

I remember the original one and how we used to torture each other with it. Boy did it hurt, but to learn of the new one sounds so interesting. They were the innovators back when they had the original with a easy, yet painful way to get rid of unwanted hair. Waxing is what I use now but it’s painful and rips off skin and leaves my legs red for days.

  • Angela W. said:

I wax my legs but talk about a mess! I end up with wax everywhere and then I end up having to hop in the shower trying to get the wax off of me. UGH! I think I need an Epilady!

  • Nina said:

Great review! My hair removal woe is like many other ladies, you shave your legs and the hair grows back so quick(like overnight)! Plus I hate when I’m in a rush and then notice I missed a spot!

  • Aleta said:

I was burned by the laser from my laser hair removal. Super ouch!

  • Elizabeth said:

I would love this, because it’s seems so much easier than plucking!

  • kailey said:

Unfortunately, I have polycystic ovarian syndrome which in turn makes me pretty much one big hairball. I have a very heavy thick beard chin area along with sideburn area, chin and lower neck. I have hair all over my breasts, and inbetween them and straight down my belly. When I say hair, I mean thick black coarse hair. Its humiliating and ive tried plucking, waxing, shaving, and creams. I just cant keep up. Id Love to be able to have something easier and with better results! I hope I am lucky enough to win and can maybe one day be less chewbacca like lol thank you!

  • Liz said:

omg…i love your before and after pics.
what i dislike most from shaving is when
i miss those small hairs and when my hair
    grows back super quick!

  • Joleen said:

This would be perfect for me!! I have bad razor burn the next day after shaving. It would helP me out because I have 3 kids that I try to keep active and the weather in Miami is HOT! I try to wear shorts but with razor burn I get embarrassed and end up cutting the day short due to me having to wear pants :( save this mom!!!!

  • Yurani Sandoval said:

I love it! shaving makes my skin so dry and using epilady not only leaves my legs hairless longer but my skin is so smooth =) would love to give my epilady EP-803-17 a break and have this one!

  • Kim said:

I get so tired of having to shave every day and getting a rash or bumps with different types of razors. This would be great.

  • Suasoria said:

I have been considering an epilator for some time, but sorting through Amazon reviews and comparing products is honestly more irritating than shaving. Winning this would kill two birds with one stone – save me from shaving, and save me from having to decide what to buy.

  • Stephanie said:

I hate shaving daily but I have to because I love wearing skirts! I am super picky about razors and shaving cream because I always either miss patches of hair or cut myself :(

  • LeeAnna Salazar said:

The woes would be the amount of time I take shaving. This would be wonderful to have :)

  • esther lynn said:

i’ve never shaved because i knew this would happen. it would be amazing to try out an epilator!

  • M. B said:

I usually wax cause it last longer. I’m willing to try an epilator though if I can get the same results.

  • Edna Maldonado said:

I always end up cutting while shaving, and I have super sensitive skin so I’m always wearing pants to avoid shaving. I have pcos which you already know causes that I have more hair all over. thanks for sharing and good luck everyone.

  • Jennifer K said:

This would be great to have. I would love to try it!

  • Michelle Giorgi said:

I have very coarse, dark hair, that grows super fast. On top of that I have a very small water heater so I have to break up showering and shaving. I need something to give me more time of smooth skin because I hate seeing those black dots right after you shave.

  • Erza S. said:

My woe is that the more I shave the thicker the hair grows… /sobs

  • Lindsey Sturman said:

Wow! I would absolutely love one of these! I can’t get away shadaving without ingrown hairs, red bumps, and irritation.. which especially makes it difficult in the summertime and it’s just too hot to cover up.

  • Diana Real said:

I would love to use this on my arms! I shaved them enough times that they actually got thicker!! Horrific actually, but I never shave them; for I fear that they shall become so thick that my arms become hidden. I want the hair on my arms to become finer, Please! I would also use on my underarms, the hairs there grow at super-speed :O

  • Kate B. Rose said:

The worst part is that very few razors are sharp enough and dont give me razor burn

  • Valerie B said:

Nair back in the day. Gross! Hopping around like a frog for 20 minutes with this stinky gooey stuff allover my legs. Never again.

  • Lesly W. said:

    In-grown hair :(

  • Camille said:

we have a tiny glass shower, with no room to shave your legs in! So either I have to contort in the shower or shave my legs in a extra step in the bathtub. Such a pain!
This product would save me so much annoyance, as I could use it while I watched tv and be done with it! No more slipping in the shower!

  • mary clay said:

well, i rarely shave my legs because the hair is so fine and soft. i could go a couple of months and not shave and no one could tell! i would love to try this, because i think then i could go a lot longer without any stubble! thanks for this great giveaway, and for updating it. i remember when it first came out in the 80s and it was a form of torture!

  • Kelly Kalberg said:

Wow! Those results are amazing! The only shaving woes I currently have is the time factor. I have 3 year old and have to race to take a shower! I literally have to rush so he doesn’t have too much free time to himself. Meaning time to dig and cause a huge mess for mom after I get out. And there’s always safety issues with leaving a child alone for any amount of time. So I rarely get the luxury of shaving during my daily showers! Lol so if I had this I could do it while He’s napping or watching a movie. No need to go without or rushing and cutting myself. Definitely would love to try this! Thanks for the chance at such a great giveaway!

  • Patty said:

From the info this would be great as it is simple and seems to last so much longer than shaving.

  • Lisa ODonnell said:

I would really LOVE this Epilady!! I have a problem with compulsive hair-tweezing…. When I shave, the hair grows back so quickly that I can’t control my compulsion to pull it out/dig it out. This results in bleeding, redness, ingrown hairs, and tons of soreness. I used to get sugared every 4-6 wks, but cannot afford it anymore. I am sooo tired of being sore and ugly, and using coverup make-up to hide the scabs, scars and holes just so I can wear shorts and dresses. Thanks so very much for this giveaway!!

when i was small i used to always see my mom shave her arms and legs. So when i was in fourth grade me and my sister both grabbed the razor and shaved our legs and our arms. The hugest mistake in our life we ever made. And since then our hair from our legs and our arms have been super dark and hairy. And we are both 26 now and i am just so tired of having to shave and shave or use expensive creams to get rid of what i caused 17 years ago. Please offer us some relief :)

This thing looks amazing!! i tired so may things that has failed miserably. from shaving with a razor, waxing, nair, veet, to using an electric razor. the results never really seems to be good. getting nicks and cuts, pain and redness, no hair being removed, or hair just growing back so fast within the next day. it gets kinda tedious and exhausting but it has to be done, grooming is required for daily hygiene routine lol. I would like to try this and see if it will make things easier and less time consuming with less maintenance of everyday use. thanks for the chance to try and win.. good luck to all your lovely ladies out there!!!

Shaving…aaauuuggghhh! It would be so nice if I didn’t have to do it any more! I get nicks, and I sometimes find spots that I missed, plus I have dark stubble the very next day! This would be a great product to try! I will share on facebook! Thank you!!

Shaving just doesn’t provide the smooth, long-lasting results that the epilator appears to.

  • Jennifer N. said:

It is too time consuming to pluck out my hairs under my arms. I do not like shaving there because when it grows, it’s twice as fast and thick. However, the epilator can eliminate all those problems. Thank you, BeautyStat.

  • Maddie said:

I’ve been curious about epilators for a while, especially since I always cut myself using a razor. I think this would be awesome to try!

I’m using the No!No! right now so this would be awesome to use while waiting for my hair to stop growing back! Thanks for another GREAT giveaway!! :)

  • Reena said:

Oh my gosh- this looks amazing! In fact, I’ve been seeing information pop up all over the place lately about Epilady and have become quite curious! My mother swore by her Epilator, but up until recently I hadn’t heard a thing since the 90s. I can’t wait to try this. Thanks for the thorough review, you def have me convinced!

I am only used to shaving my legs. I’ve had unsuccessful attempts using at-home chemical hair removers and waxing kits which both irritated my skin and didn’t remove the hair. This sounds like it might work.

  • Danielle said:

I have very sensitive skin. I can only use certain razors. Nair burns. I have even tried “Black Magic” which is for African American men to remove hair on their heads or face. I use it for down their and legs. But I have a huge problem with ingrown hairs. So sometimes I give up until I have special occasions. I feel sad and embarrassed because my children do complain and comment on my body hair. When they cuddle they either pet me or say I make them itcy.

  • Alexa said:

I hate the itchy feelings and burns. I would love to try the Epilady!

This is perfection. I’ve been trying to find other alternatives to shaving and depilatory cream. This would solve my woes of needing to shave my legs and underarms so often (like every three days)! I live in Florida, so not shaving or not wearing shorts is not very optional, especially in the summer!

  • Stephanie V. said:

My mom wouldn’t let me shave at all because she thinks that it will make the hair grow back thicker (does it?) so i have to wax. It is such a pain in the buttocks and hurts very much, even after 3 years of waxing! I would love to win this so I don’t have to go through the same painful experience and still have my legs smooth for high school dances and what not :D

  • Geeta Ranbhor said:

I tried to do waxing and I am not good at it. Had in growths and everything was a mess. Never tried epilator before. Texas summer is so brutal this time, that I am always practically in bathing suit or shorts. Would love to have this great tool. Thanks for the chance.

  • MaryN said:

I would love this for my face. I have very coarse chin hair that grows in at the speed of light. I can’t use hair remover creams because they irritate my skin (even those that say they’re for sensitive skin). My only recourse is to shave it, which has given me a slight five o clock shadow look :(

I despise shaving my legs and in the blink of an eye, the hair is standing just as long as before the shave. I expect a week or so before having to shave again. I use disposables razors that have claimed to do cleaner, smoother, and much closer shaves guaranteed, well I am here to say that is a fib if I ever heard one. I need a razor that will do the job and do the job well. I am tired of spending money time after time for the same boring, sickening, and disgusting results. Please choose me as the winner because I really need a better solution. Thanks in advance.

So awesome :) I always epilate my legs, but I do struggle with the silly cord of my current epilator (its very inconvenient plus makes it impossible to use it when traveling abroad).

  • Deb J. said:

I remember my mom teaching me how to shave my legs when I was about 12 years old using my dad’s USED (aka DULL) razor blades. Back then (1970), multi-bladed razors were unheard of so it was necessary to shave twice. And it still didn’t exactly leave my legs completely smooth.

I’d heard stories of the original epi-lady when it first came out, but didn’t try it because I’d heard it was extremely painful. I’d love to give the current version a try!

    Thanks for the chance!

  • Mia said:

Where do I begin with my hair woes? I’ve always had dark leg hair, and ivory skin doesn’t really help with that. Even when I shave it looks as if I have super hairy legs! It drives me insane. Since shaving doesn’t work, I’ve tried wax and other hair removal products but they never seem to last more than a few days at the most. This product might just be my little miracle so I would love to try it out! =)
