We’re tired of seeing actresses fronting cosmetics lines. How stupid do beauty companies think we are? Does L’Oreal expect us to believe that Diane Keaton wears its Age Perfect Skin Supporting & Hydrating Makeup off-camera? What’s worse is that some of these lovelies aren’t even wearing the makeup they’re hawking when they’re on-camera. L’Oreal recently landed in hot water when it was discovered that Penelope Cruz, who appeared in an ad for its Telescopic Mascara, was actually wearing fake eyelashes. L’Oreal called it standard industry practice. We call it outrageous.
So …

Calling all bathing beauties: an amazing bath and body line from up-and-coming beauty company Soapier is gathering devotees faster than Paris Hilton makes headlines.
Its sumptuous range of soaps, body scrubs and lotions transported us from morning to night in a smoothed, soothed and deliciously scented state of bliss.
We tested a few of the glycerin-based Soaps by the Slice ($6), which produced luxurious foam that left our skin baby soft and moisturized all day. The mouth-watering collection includes decadent Lavished in Chocolate, spicey Pumpkin, and musky floral Arabian Nights.
We also loved …

Sweet, creamy, velvety. These are adjectives that could apply to the Red Velvet cake you’ve been silently craving. But Yves St. Laurent’s new Rouge Volupte lipstick (which hit Henri Bendel today) may also fit the bill.
The face of this new lippie is Kate Moss. The tube is absolutely gorgeous: a built-in mirror, a slanted lipstick “bullet” and a hip gilded belt of color that showcases the lipstick’s real tones.
Gold dominates the packaging, of course, and the lipstick is very smooth. Like buttah. Of course, I run the risk of sounding …

Showers can be really trying. While necessary as oxygen, they can be as comfortable or as hasty as you make them. Unless you have a precious little tool like the Emotibombs from LUSH cosmetics.
This pellet is aromatherapy at its best. And truth be told, I wasn’t expecting much. I was told to place the pellet under the shower and let water dazzle all over it. “Experience the aroma,” my friend told me.
Yeah, whatever, I thought. If I can get through the shower without smelling some mildew, I’m a happy camper.
But …

There are times when even the best of us have a hard time finding a good moisturizer. I know I have hunted high and low like an anthropologist in search of Big Foot to find the perfect combination of high SPF protection, non-greasy texture and perfect hydration. But the beauty ads that appear in the pages of a magazine taunt me like striptease.
We promise you the moon. Okay. Let’s start with clear skin first.
The best moisturizer ever. Hmm, we’ve heard that before.
And trust me, we’ve all heard of peptides and …

Like many women, I’m a sucker for great packaging. In fact, the packaging attracts me first (it’s the same feeling I get while eyeing the juicy runway colors: who cares if the dresses are wearable? They look good on the mannequin).
This is the feeling I got when I looked at Tarte Cosmetics‘ Fall collection (available at Sephora, aka the Land of Good N Plenty).
Look at the Eye Couture Day to Night Palette! It has glam and economy of scale stamped all over its pretty body ($44). You get 10 shadows …

I’ve been asking the cosmetics companies for years, “For the love of God, when can I get my hands on Snake Venom Skin Cream?”
Friends, Romans, countrymen, that moment has arrived. If you’ve overheard people comparing your face to an old catcher’s mitt, or perhaps a rotting jack-o-lantern, your worries are over.
Simply reach in, deep, deep into your savings, dig out $280 and Syence will hand over a bottle the size of a salt shaker.
Remember when your mother said “if you keep making that face, it’ll stay like that?” Well the …

It was a dark and stormy night. The people could see ghosts in their breath and auras in every shadow. The wind blew the candles out and the vampires came out and starting distributing Urban Decay lipsticks.Or so the story goes.
Fall is all about sporting that glossy, vampy, I’m-so-shiny look, and I love the Urban Decay lippies “Apocalypse” and “Gravity” to inspire you to look black blooded the coming season.
Other UD lippie colors you may love include “Gash” (blood red, what else?); Buzzkill (dark rose), and Requiem. They all sound …

Fab news! I attended my first Total Beauty event last week in New York, and met a skincare guru that has taken Beverly Hills and the nation by storm (we’re talking at least a hurricane Dolly level alert here).
Zein Obagi is a no nonsense skincare guru who’s been practicing dermatology for decades. He just turned 65 but I’m sure his genes must have been dipped in some anti-aging potion because he didn’t look a day over forty.
Obagi spoke about how so many brands lead you to over moisturize the skin. His …

Molton Brown has come a long way since specializing in haircare. Currently, the line is bubbling with skincare offerings that would even make The Body Shop jealous.
Travelers can be at peace when they look at some of the gorgeously packed choices. Stowed in a cute zip lock bag are bottles of delish stuff. (Okay, the TSA sucks, right? Show ‘em you know how to count. These bottles are exactly 3.3 fl. ounces or less. Wave the ziplock bags in their face!).
The Indulgent Traveler is my fave, and the salmon colored …
